We stayed from April 5 to April 9 and found what appeared to be bed bugs in one of the bedrooms after the first night, which we reported to the host. We were informed they needed time to inspect and confirm the issue, and confirmation was not provided until the late afternoon on Apr7. With tours already booked outside of Florence on April 6 and 7, leaving before 8am and returning after 9pm, it was impossible to relocate, and realistically we couldn’t move until the morning of the 8th. Initially, we were offered a refund for the unused nights if we left, which would only now cover the final night while still requiring us to find a new place last minute and risk bringing bed bugs with us. We were then offered 20% back for the impacted days, followed by a revised offer of 30% for the entire stay. Based on this, we decided to remain for the final night. After we completed our stay, we were then told that 30% would only apply to 3 nights.Overall, the situation significantly impacted our trip. My teens ended up sleeping on the sofa despite having paid for proper beds, we all dealt with emotional stress and anxiety about bites and spent time and money running clothes thru the dryer to minimize carrying bed bugs to the next location. Shifting compensation offers by the host made it difficult to feel that the situation was handled in good faith. Additionally, an exterminator was sent to the property on our last night without prior communication, while we were still staying there.
