With a total area of about 50 square miles scattered over several islands, Bermuda is a tiny country in the middle of the Atlantic. As such, Bermuda has only one airport which receives flights to Bermuda, the L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA, formerly known as the Bermuda International airport) located in the Parish of St George’s on St David’s Island. BDA is Bermuda's platform to the rest of the world, receiving and sending flights all over, especially serving British Airways, Air Canada, and American Airlines. Bermuda flights arrive to a good airport, with duty free shops, an executive lounge, great coffee & bistro, and free WiFi. Bus routes cover the entire group of islands, making travel to and from BDA comfortable, easy, and safe.
Bermuda Weather
Bermuda’s climate is sub-tropical—mild in the winter, spring, and autumn but stifling hot from May to October. The occasional thunderstorm occurs a few times a year and temperatures can reach into the 90s. Scheduling Bermuda flights any time of year is good, but if traveling during summer, be sure to pack sunscreen and prepare to change clothes if need be. Unprepared skin can ruin a beautiful vacation. Hurricanes are not as prevalent as in the Caribbean, but occur on average every seven years, so preparations should be noted.
Getting Around Bermuda
Bermuda is about the size of a marathon run, so the need for crazy planning is minimized, making flights to Bermuda stress-free. You can access the popular public bus system without the need to walk far and the Sea Express, the public ferry service, offers inexpensive and frequent boat trips. Travel passes, which can be used for both the ferry and bus are available, as well as a fleet of taxis—which you’ll find edge the island-wide speed limit of 35kph (22mph). Car rental is not an option to avoid automotive cluster in the cities, but scooters are definitely an option. Bermuda’s harbors also provide facilities for many different types of seafaring paraphernalia, which is by far the most fun mode of travel around the islands.
