GREAT RESORT TO KICK BACK AND RELAX IT WAS BEAUTIFUL .EASY BUS SERVICE IN TO TOWN ,FERRY TO NAVY YARD WAS GREAT ROOMS AND THE VIEWS ARE GREAT .WE WERE TREATED LIKE KING AND QUEEN .WILL GO BACK AGAIN THANKS GROTTO BAY .
A very relaxing trip. The staff was very kind and helpful. The hotel is family friendly. No need to change your U.S. dollars (dollar for dollar). Neitra is a pleasant lady working at the front desk. All-inclusive package is offered at the front desk for your convenience but not necessary. You have a variety of eatery just a bus away. The location is very convenient to all. Down the block you have the restaurant Swizzle if you don't want to eat at the Hotel's restaurant. Right across the street from Swizzle you have the cave tours ($22 guided tour) and ice cream parlor. It's easy to navigate around the island. Everything is a bus stop away ($2.75 / $4.50 depends on zone). Head to "the square" on a Saturday where you will find a lot of tourist attractions. On a Sunday take the bus to the ferry and head out to the Dockyard. Dockyard is cultural rich. You can learn a lot about the island of Bermuda by visiting the museum and other historic buildings well in Dockyard. Last ferry leaves at 5:30 p.m. Bermuda is a very clean island. Everyone you meet greets you with a friendly hello and how are you doing today? Great place for everyone.
Hotel has individual lodges of about 15-20 rooms. Hotel in on a cliftside so be prepared to walk up hill eveytime to get to the main dining area. March is not a good time to visit: hurricane winds and lots of rain with a low temp of 48-56 degrees F. Cave (cathedral) in the resort was the nicest feature and you can swim in there with a wetsuit. Jacuzzi was well hot and needed. Guess were all taking turns and waiting to get in. Hotel need another jacuzzi. Pool on our first two days was lukewarm and you can swim for a short time but because of the winds and the cold temp, it was uncomfortable being in the pool. In hot weather the beach there would be nice to sit on. Some staff not very friendly and insist on puntuality and nonsense rules which is not hospitality; the business they are in. 17%gratuity is included with everything including a cup of tea. Food there is generic. Hotel grounds clean and nice plants. No activities at the hotel so you must get a bus pass or rent a scooter or get a taxi. Not a kid friendly hotel: struggle on the hill with stroller, have to lift the stroller up the stairs to the room every time, and bringing it on the bus is a nightmare. Crystal cave and Swizzle Inn restaurant a easy five minute walk.
A friend and I went to the resort during the winter, and it was an amazing experience! All of the staff that we came in contact with made us feel welcome and like they had known us for years. David, Charlie, Wayne, Neitra- All amazing at their jobs and very helpful 100% of the time. The all inclusive plan is the only way to go when staying there; it was amazing to go and not have a care in the world. We had a minor problem with our room keys, and it was able to be handled in a matter of minutes; all without any stress. I came home and told everyone how wonderful it was, and I am already looking forward to my trip back next year!
Loved it Wld always come back Great staff Nice environment Nice scenery Soo relaxing
I had an enjoyable stay at this hotel. It is closer to the airport which is a bit of a drive from Downtown Hamilton but it was worth it. The view was great. The rooms were spacious and clean. The hotel staff was very helpful and VERY friendly. The bartender had parties every night with a great DJ. The pool was clean and heated for the winter months. I truly enjoyed staying their and will choose that hotel again when I go back to Bermuda. This is coming from one that travels a lot and have seen the good and bad in hotels. It was my first time staying there and I highly recommend it.
All of my family really enjoyed our stay there - Location in reference to the airport and the town of St. George, was excellent. The hotel itself was very clean and up to date. All of the hotel staff, in particular June in hotel services, were very accomadating and made our stay truly enjoyable - They would make all of the other wonderful people of Bermuda that we met on the island there - Very proud!
Grotto Bay is perfectly located -- on a bay, close by bus to both Hamilton and St. George's. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is excellent (the lunch buffet is an especially good deal). The rooms are clean and comfortable. We have been there six years in a row and wouldn't stay anywhere else.
The room was small about the size of an average motel room. The toilet was off of its supports,( but it did get fixed by the second day), the sink faucets when turned on leaked, you could hear toilets flushing and showers running and we were the last room on the end. The light from out side shined in our room all night. It seemed a 65%of the guests were 60+ and there were no activities, 0 night life. If you wanted to do something at night they offered board games. Most of the staff was pleasant but some were not.
I do not think they always change sheets from people who stayed there previously. They brush the sheets and spray though. We developed a rash and asked the change room with fresh sheets you can feel the difference
Wonderful hotel. Great staff, beautiful location. It is truly paradise at Grotto bay.
Swimming in the cave was the most memorable experience in my life!!
We had a nice 4-day stay at this resort. We would recommend to include the all-in option as this is certainly worth it, cost vs benefit.
This was a beautiful hotel, close to the airport. The place was clean and neat. The villas all look beautiful by the seaside shining in the sunlight. Great vista. The rooms are as shown online, clean and comfortable, well chilled. The staff was courteous, friendly and helpful. The food was good but I don't fret about food. I will use them again if the need arises.
The staff is indifferent at best. Front desk, pool staff, bartenders seemed annoyed and generally uninterested. the beach was PACKED with lounge chairs practically on top of each other. All "taken" with hotel towels but 75% had no one on them and empty cups all around. Had to assume they had been abandoned but no one was there to take the towels away so there were no available chairs to sit on. Same goes for the pool. Stayed at The Reefs last year. It was a much more upscale property, way better staff and top notch beach and pool experience. Tried Grotto Bay since I had my daughter with me this time. Wouldn't go back. However, many people around me said they really loved this resort (used the word "Love!") so maybe it's me. Sorry, but if you have the word "Resort" in your name people expect something. Also, this is the bay, not the ocean. Although Bermuda is an island, surrounded by ocean, this property is definitely on the bay. "Oceanfront" room at grotto bay means bay front. Having stayed in an ocean front resort and knowing the difference I would recommend that if you are flying to Bermuda and spending the money go for a place on the other side of the island.
June Ann and all of the staff make you feel like you are coming home every time you are there. Bermuda continues to be my favorite short hop from home for beautiful people, scenery and fun.
My wife and I and our two teenagers just got back from our first stay at the Grotto Bay and it will not be our last. The resort and grounds are beautiful and the staff was awesome and always helpful and friendly. The location is great as it was close to the airport, close to the water, and close to the bus stop to get to and from Hamilton or St. Georges. There is also plenty to do on the premises - beach, pool, caves, tennis, shuffle board, water sports, and fine dining.
the hotel is located 5 min from the airport. If traveling with big luggage take a taxi won't cost more than 10$. If just carry on take the bus which leaves you right outside the hotel. The hotel itself is nice looking. The rooms are outdated but comfortable beds. The main issue for many could be the amount of noise coming from the other rooms. Walls seem to be way too thin. Most of the rooms have view of the water but the beach in the hotel is literally 25 feet. The pool is great and the whirlpool too. From desk attendants are great and courteous. The only one that turn out a little nasty was the lady who gives you a run down of the island. The hotel is good but not great!
This was our 6th visit to Bermuda, staying each time at Grotto Bay. It is so well situated, comfortable, wonderful, knowledgable helpful staff. I would highly recommend Grotto Bay to individuals, couples, families, people of all ages. A truly great place to stay.
The people were very nice and friendly. James was very helpful and kind. The concern i have with the location is that because it is an all-inclusive it isn't close to anything else. We stayed in November which is their slow season and the resort did not have evening activities planned. the one night they were to have a story teller but that was cancelled. The resort provided a bus pass which was great but reading the bus schedule was confusing. We used the spa and had a great experience with the massage treatment. Thanks to Keona. Food was great. Pool and other beach equipment was fine.
