Longstreet Inn & Casino
About an hour from Las Vegas, Amargosa Valley is a small, cheerful town with less than 1,500 locals. It sits right on the border between Nevada and California, with its hotels located in different states despite being minutes apart. Surrounded by mountains, and close to the famous Death Valley National Park, visitors will love its western United States charm.
Where to Stay in Amargosa Valley
There are two Amargosa Valley hotel options. The first one is Longstreet Inn & Casino. The hotel has a 3-star rating, free WiFi, two American-style restaurants, and an onsite casino in case you want to try your luck.
Longstreet is a great place to stay if you are planning to visit Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Covering over 23,000 acres, it includes both desert and wetland and is home to a huge number of plant and animal species. Despite its beauty, the meadows are still fairly off the beaten path, making it the perfect location for some relaxing exploration. Head to the Ash Meadows Visitor Center to learn more about its history and environment, from its first settlers to the unique species that call it home. Then, drive out and walk along the boardwalks to enjoy the many springs, landscape, and wildlife. Do not miss out on a visit to the Devil’s Hole, where the Desert Pupfish live.
Also nearby Longstreet Casino Hotel, is Big Dunes. This area is great if you are interested in some off-roading adventures like riding some ATVs or dune buggies. It’s mostly a local’s secret spot, so you’ll have plenty of space to roam.
A visit to Amargosa Valley is not complete without a visit to nearby Death Valley National Park. Not only is the park the hottest and driest of all the U.S. national parks, it is also the largest in the continental United States. With some of the most otherworldly landscapes, burning orange sunsets, and incredible starry nights, exploring this park makes for a unique attraction. Particular highlights include Badwater Basin, the lowest point of the park at 282 feet below sea level, and Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes. For the best views, head to Zabriskie Point.
If you are planning on hiking the park, you will want to stay at Amargosa Opera House and Hotel, which sits right at Death Valley Junction. It is a tiny ghost town at the intersection of two major highways. While this white adobe hotel only has a 2.5-star rating, it oozes historic charm and is a point of interest in its own right. Started by the late Marta Becket, she performed her own dance and mime shows for over four decades. Between trips out to Death Valley, enjoy the hotel and its singular café serving up Australian-American fusion cuisine.
