We just returned from a week's stay at Half Moon Bay and can't wait to return. The condo is very comfortable and well equipped with everything you will need for the week - dvds, books, games, snorkel gear, beach towels, etc. We stopped at the store for shampoo and such - but there was plenty already in the unit. The grounds keeper and housekeeping staff were friendly and did a wonderful job! It was a wonderfully comfortable unit, well appointed, well maintained and close to everything.
We rented a car to drive from Cancun to Akumal but once we arrived it was parked and we walked everywhere - out to dinner, to town and to Yal Ku lagoon. We did drive to Tulum one day but otherwise it was on foot. If we had not rented a car, I might has rented bikes for the week - however it was easy to just walk. Note - if you are going to Tulum or Yal Ku - go early. It really does get quite busy as tour buses start to arrive.
We had planned on cooking in the unit for a few nights (the grill was a nice bonus) but it was so easy to get to the restaurants, we opted to go out every night. Across the street from the unit is a small convenience store - we purchased sugar, margarita mix and first aid cream. Very convenient not to have to drive to a store.
The beach access is very rocky - if you are looking for a swimming beach, Half Moon Bay is not a good choice. And the winds were howling for a few days which made snorkeling pretty tough - on those days we just hung out on the loungers. But once the wind died down, the snorkeling was pretty good, especially on the north end of the bay.
The owner sent a nice package of information - on where to eat, how to get to the unit, things to do and see, travel tips, etc... We followed the directions and had no problem with the drive or finding the unit. We also referenced her information throughout the stay so it was very helpful.
All in all, we were extremely happy with our stay at PB#8 and look forward to returning sometime in the near future!!
