I think of myself as a fairly seasoned traveler. I have been to Europe multiple times, across the US and in various parts of Mexico. This time, I am traveling for medical reasons and find this wonderful hotel beyond expectations of business hospitality. The people who run this hotel are very kind and have treated us with exceptional care. On top of that, the rooms have old world charm and comfort, the food is delicious and we are right in the heart of the historical district. I cannot recommend it enough!
First a few words about the city. Zacatecas is beautiful in the daylight but after dark it is amazing. In the historic center of the city all of the utilities are buried and LED lights are installed in the stone sidewalks. These shine up onto the magnificent stone buildings and the effect is stunning. By day there are lots of interesting museums and galleries to visit and miles of beautiful streets to walk. On this, our first visit to Zacatecas, we chose the Meson de Jobito after reading the glowing reviews of recent visitors on Trip Advisor. This is a very attractive two-story hotel with all rooms facing a courtyard that was once a colonial era street. The walls of the old buildings that comprise the hotel are more than a foot thick. Our suite included a large living room, a spacious bedroom with a king bed and a full bath with a dressing area. Although in the historic district, just a few blocks from the cathedral, the hotel is quiet with no traffic noise. There are two entrances, one accessible by taxi the other, adjacent to the front desk, leads to a pedestrian-only street. We arrived late and opted for a light room service dinner; the Aztec soup with all the trimmings was excellent. The hotel restaurant is highly rated but, other than the room service on arrival, we tried only the breakfast, which was also fine and reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and helped us to arrange local transportation as well as a half day excursion by taxi to the La Quemada ruins and the nearby town of Jerez. Zacatecas, at 8200 feet altitude, is Mexico’s second highest city and, though quite cool in the winter, the buildings in the city generally do not have heat. The museums, galleries, shops and even some restaurants can be quite chilly so bring warm sweaters to wear, even in the hotel. Zacatecas is a beautiful and fascinating city that has been largely overlooked by visitors from the U.S. We thoroughly enjoyed the city as well as our stay at the Meson de Jobito and highly recommend both.
I have to start off by mentioning that the city of Zacatecas is just amazing... It is rich with history, and its colonial architecture is rivalled by few other Mexican cities... As a matter of fact, it kind of resembles Cuzco, Peru (or vice versa). Having said that, to really take in the sights you have to stay at a well situated hotel. The Meson is perfectly located in the downtown area, 3 (very small) blocks away from the cathedral. The Hotel used to be a small low income enclosed neighborhood, and while it conserves the original architecture, it has been completely restored and adapted for a hotel. The staff is very polite, and helpful and the rooms were impeccably clean. We didn't eat at the restaurant because we had so many recommended restaurants to try. I highly recommend Meson de Jobito.
Every year my Wife's family has a reunion. This year it is in beautiful Zacatecas. The cede hotel "El Meson de Jobito" was selected. I am glad it was. It is a very nice centrally located hotel. We are in a nice sized room with a king bed. Very cozy and quiet. Larger rooms come with double beds. All in all a nice hotel. One thing that brought my rating down was the hotel had no on-protect parking. We had to hand the keys to a hotel driver who would take the car about 3/4 blocks away to park. This turned out not so bad as more of a distraction as almost everywhere we had family events we were close enough to walk to. Still not being able to lay my hands on our car was a preoccupation for me as family things pop up and without transportation you feel constrained. The hotel restaurant was very nice. We are here the first evening and in our group we ordered salmon (very good), tampiqueña ( very good), aracheras (very soft and tasty) and my own t-bone steak (al mojo de año) Excellent. Breakfast though not included was very good. My chiliquiles divorciados were very good. The facilities while old were excellent. Time to walk to Sanborns for a cappuccino was 5 minutes. Wow. Loved this place.
This was our third time visiting Zacatecas and this was our third hotel - I will say it was the best! It was beautiful, quiet, and perfectly located. Our room was a master suite (two rooms), the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom + shower was excellent! The staff was very friendly! No complaints here!
Came an hour after expected check-in time, been told our room is not ready and we shall either wait or come later. So we left our luggage and went to explore the city, it was later delivered to our room. The room itself was nice and clean, with loads of space if a bit outdated furniture. There was only one person on staff present that spoke English and it wasn't our receptionist, so his colleague had to come, on other occasion they called someone to translate. I don't understand what's up with the remote control you firstly get and then have to return on checkout. Like can't they leave it in the room? Also, I've noticed cuttlery from room service lying on the floor by the door to the neighbouring room, it was there on the afternoon and it only got cleaned up early morning next day. The most helpful person on staff was one responsible for valet parking, that went without a hitch. Overall a nice atmospheric hotel in a good location for a good price, just don't expect much in terms of service provided.
From the moment I came to meson del jobito I knew I made the best choice just by their service. I enjoy my room which was the mini suite and it was very clean and peaceful. The building is beautiful and in great condition with the old colonial mexican charm
Charming, peaceful and elegant place to spend a vacation in Zacatecas. Indeed, if you are looking for a Mexican experience, El jobito will deliver it in the form of 1950's neighborhood clusters. The rooms are impeccable decorated with a unique style. One can really rest during the night and be delighted with the service. Hungry? It comes with a wonderful restaurant with Zacatecan cuisine. The service is friendly, professional and efficient. El jobito goes very well with the city of Zacatecas, and it blends with the "Colonial" Mexican experience.
Located centrally, Mesón de Jobito occupies a former precinct, so that rooms resemble different homes in the community. It makes the hotel look very homely, with the cozy courtyards. Close to the Cathedral and most of the main sights, so you really could walk everywhere. The rooms are also a good size. However, there are a few quirks. In spite of the fact that there is supposed to be heating available (Zacatecas gets cold in winter at night), the unit in my room did not produce warm air. The television remote for my room also did not work. Funny that they actually issue you with that remote together with your room key, and ask you to return it together with the room key on checking out (is anyone going to want to take the remote???). Don't expect too much English to be spoken by staff, even if they try to help. The receptionist could not produce a map of the local area, and had to get the bellboy to find one after asking for it a number of times.
Wonderful hotel with excellent staff. Many of the staff do not speak English but will try their best in every way to assist. The architecture design of the rooms is beautiful. The restaurant offers room service with international foods and delicious desserts.
