City Express Zacatecas2.0 out of 5.0

The rooms here are simple - 'no frills' are included. This means no fridge, microwave or coffeemaker. The rooms are very small, but clean. No tub, stand-up shower only. Large and generous Mexican-style breakfast included. If you are travelling through, it is fine, but we wouldn't recommend for longer stays.
We were driving from the US border to Oaxaca towing a trailer with our furniture. There was stretch of road with huge potholes and we seemed to hit all of them. The suspension on the trailer was broken. We were exhausted and pulled into the City Express to be first greeted by a man named Carlos. He easily backed the crippled trailer into a spot. Next we met another man at the front desk also named Carlos. He had excellent English skills (my Spanish is very so-so). The following morning, a Saturday, Carlos from reception ventured out in his suit and literally got on the ground to see our problem. Next he called a mechanic, Sr. Davilla, who came within the hour to look at our problem. Sr Davilla said he'd be able to fix it but not until Monday. So, we stayed at City Express with our cat and dog for a total of four days. We enjoyed excellent room service. We also found the breakfast buffet to be superior than anything offered in the US. We were given the online rate as well after we extended our stay. The hotel was also hosting many Mexican nationals in the city for the annual fair as well as business professionals. The staff maintained a happy welcoming atmosphere. We were able to take the shuttle into the central historic part of Zacatecas for free. The taxi ride back to the hotel was a reasonable rate. We were able to rest and enjoy the city before carrying on to Oaxaca. Because of this unplanned stay we will be back to see more of Zacatecas and definitely will stay at City Express.
This hotel is next to Fiesta Inn and fairly close to the state government building toward the outer city limits of Zacatecas. The hotel has free transportation service , one way, to many destinations like the Galleria shopping mall which is 3 minutes away by car. I stayed for 1 year in this hotel and the staffs are friendly and helpful. It is a budget hotel for business and travelers visiting Zacatecas. There is a free breakfast consisting of eggs, raw ham, toast, fried beans, cereals, milk and juice everday in the morning. Rooms are a standard size rooms with many rooms having 2 queen size beds. Air condition and heater are installed in every room. No bath tub, only shower!
This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at in Zacatecas. This hotel is extremely clean and the staff was very friendly I definitely recommend it and will be staying here next time I visit Zacatecas
They went out of their way to recommend locations for us to visit and eat. They made a lost for is which I thought was very helpful. I also requested an extra blanket and they didn't hesitate to bring it to my room. Thanks a lot guys and I will return next time I'm in town!!!!
I drove from Juarez to Zacatecas witch it about 14 hours. Got to city express around 8pm. The room I stayed in was horrible. Everything was dirty. The tv, remote & menus were all greasy and stained. Bathroom was discussing/falling apart. There were things missing.(door knob, buttons on the phone). Literally only stayed there from 8pm till 5am the next day. And I will never stay there again.
The hotel is very clean and neat. The place offers the basics but I would absolutely stay there again. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms have their own air and heating system which is a plus for me.
I stayed here for 5 nights and would agree with most of the comments made. Being so far out of town was a nuisance but the shuttle was useful. Surprisingly the hotel was quiet despite being on a main road. The breakfast was sufficient and the staff went out of their way to be helpful.
The hotel is located on the main expressway(mostly toll) near the new Government City and close to the one enclosed upscale mall in Zacatecas but 5 miles from the center of the historic district of the city where the cultural sites are. There is a shuttle on a space available basis within a 10K radius that should get you to any local point of interest. You can book tours at the desk and taxi fares are quite low. If you are adventurous, city buses are cheap. There are few restaurants nearby so the hotel has a not so limited room service menu and several restaurants deliver. The front desk goes out of its way to connect you with the cuisine that pleases. Breanfast is ample including pancakes and eggs to order. Snacks and drinks were available all day but that may have been due to the World Cup. The one queen bed room was attractive and functional and the bed comfortable. It's a modern style almost Ikea-like. I was quite satisfied. The one sour note is the WiFi setup. Several routers throughout the building, all but one having cryptic SSID's. If you can't connect to "CityExpress" you have to call the desk and they'll help you connect to one of the others. Even so, speed is agonizingly slow. The $70US or so rate is an excellent value compared to the competition.
Had a LONG days drive through N Mexico, and we were quite tired, fatigued, ready to quarrel, were using non-standard English, hungry and sick of being in a car. We made it outside of Zacatecas, hoped to find a hotel outside the city as we were ready to camp in a cow field at this point, but all the cow fields were fenced in, so into the crazy traffic Z we went. At rush hour on a Friday. Was not a happy set up - at all. Got funneled into the madness of Z and found ourselves helplessly caught like rats in the road system, terrified and having way too many close encounters of the collision style, we spotted the City Express sign, and ditched off the hellish highway (pulling a camper trailer, BTW) and soon pulled into CEexpress's parking lot Truth to be told, the lobby could have been filled with a Bandito motorcycle club reunion and Dracula transvestite convention, it would matter not, we were getting a room. As soon as I approached the door a well appointed gentleman opened the door, the lobby was full of light and cheer, the desk were attentive, the rates were great, $52. $ 645 Mexico peso, the staff nearly rushed outside to help us unload, our room was perfect, small, perhaps, but remember $52, we are so happy to have stumbled here, I believe we will stay here for several more days. And,tho,as we have been here for all of six hours, they evidentially provide a transport service to the Centro, which sounds great to me, cause we have no more interest in driving our 12 passenger one ton van anywhere in Z but out of here. Hope to use that tomorrow, as we ARE NOT fireing up our van until leaving. Three cheers for City Express, as far as Sue and I already concerned.
