Appreciate the added security measures at the hotel, where staff will ask for guests' identification before entering the lifts to the guests room. It is segregated from the lifts that lead to the public areas of the hotel, like the swimming pool, restaurants and function rooms. The hotel was just 5minute-ride to the nearest shopping mall, SM Mall, while just 15 minutes to the airport. I would like especially to commend Ivana. She was the first staff to greet my family when we walked into the hotel, she was with us and spoke to us while we waited for check-in, recommending the sights and food in Xiamen. During our four-day stay, she continued to check on us whenever she saw us. During our last day when we checked out of the hotel, she wrote my family a note (in English) and gave us a token gift, waving us goodbye as we got onto the taxi. Please help us to convey our thanks to her. She is probably the reason why I have fond memories of the city and this hotel.
Great hotel which even had running routes and towels at the concierge desk. The room was great with great views and food in restaurant was also excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Loved it.
The room was perfect, and I suggest the floors above 25 with a nice view of the mountains. Pros: Quite, comfortable bed (not extremely firm) great selection of pillows, nice size walk in shower, large desk for working and comfortable chair, power next to bed for computer or USB power adapter. Good selection of English speaking TV stations. Nice breakfast buffet with a variety of fresh squeezed juices. For dinner, I eat at the bar, the food was very good and the cost was reasonable for this type of hotel. Swimming pool is good for swimming laps, but can be busy in morning. Cons: airport shuttle cost is high, I suggest taking a taxi. Unable to go to health club or main restaurant from the main elevators, it is really strange how they placed barriers.
Don't get me wrong - great hotel but just pales in comparison to some of the Shanghai/Beijing/Macau/Hong Kong hotels but then it's a tier 2 city. Room was a bit smaller and a bit more dated than expected. In General, the room was nice and clean. The gym was small but had all the essential equipments for a workout session. We also dined in at the hotel restaurants and found the food to be quite authentic and good. So all in all, if you consider value for money, it is probably 5 stars, but compared against the westins in some of the other cities in China, this is probably only a 4 star hotel.
Hotel location is at the centre of the island. Accessibility is very convenient with taxis always waiting at the entrance. Hotel is nearby sports complex with shops, restaurants and supermarket on the basement level. Room is huge, with separate wardrobe and bathroom. Bed is comfy. Bathroom has all the necessary amenities. Bedroom and bathroom were kept clean. Internet and WiFi isn't the fastest compared to other hotel I have been before. The Burger in the room service menu is absolutely tasty. Breakfast has a wide spread of choices. There are also great restaurants within the hotel to choose from. Staffs were polite and friendly with requests and questions. Stayed for a week and felt right at home with all the conveniences.
Had a fantastic dinner at the buffet restaurant. Nice service and reasonable price. A Large variety of foods and most of them are delicious af. Highly recommend the grilled seashell. Looking forward to the next trip to Xiamen.
Stayed here for 3 nights on business. I recommend trying a different hotel if you are visiting Xiamen. There were multiple problems with this hotel. The biggest issue was when the room next to mine had loud people talking and laughing so loud it sounded like they were in my room. I called the front desk THREE times over 2 hour span and they never resolved the problem. All the hotel did is call the room and ask them to be quiet. This didn't work. I couldn't sleep. They should have moved these people to a different room or forced them to be quiet. The location is not good. It is not close to anything. There are no restaurants except local fast food nearby. You will have to take a taxi or eat at the hotel. I first tried to eat at the hotel. I asked for the price of the buffet and was told 430RMB (~$65USD). The room rate was only 730RMB so this was disproportionately too high. I next tried to eat at the Latin restaurant next to the lobby but it was closed on a Saturday night for a private wedding. I went outside and asked for a taxi to take me to the big mall in town. They couldn't get a taxi to come. Again, there isn't anything nearby and there isn't any taxi traffic. After waiting 15 minutes they told me I would have to pay double to get a taxi to come. On the third night of my stay my key card stopped working. Internet was very slow. Bank machine wouldn't work with my ATM card. I had to leave the Hotel and find an HSBC ATM. The hotel should have a major international bank machine for its guests. I was going to do laundry during my stay. I looked at the price list and the prices were so expensive, I had to wash my own clothes in the sink with shampoo. They charged 60RMB (~$9USD) for a shirt. 30RMB for a sock. Think about what a sock is worth. Do you think it is reasonable to pay $5USD to wash one sock? I'm sorry but hotels should not overcharge for laundry. Business travelers are often working late and are tired. I cannot recommend this hotel. I will not stay here again. I will recommend to the company I visited not to put people in this hotel.
It's quite disgusting that you find out after you went to toilet that dried pee was and is on your toilet seat. I am normally not checking the seat since it's a 5 star hotel and dint open the light when I went to toilet but found out after I was sitting on it. Something I can't tolerate.
Visited Xiamen for business and was staying at the Westin. Room was spacious, had all the amenities required well prepared. Checking in was fast and staff were very helpful and attentive. There's a few restaurants and bar which is quite nice, quite reasonably price. There's many choices of restaurants nearby if you prefer to have some local delicacies. I enjoyed my stay and will be returning again soon. Recommend for both business & leisure travelers.
Actually I don't know why I bother to comment. 5 star hotels in China are like unicorns. They don't exist. This is another example. Looks good but just not up to the expectations of the brand. Slow and inefficient checkin... requested a room facing the river... yes sir.. given a room facing the other way. Room looks good inside (apart from the view) but the old sanitary napkin stuck to the bathroom door was a put off. The shower flooding the bathroom because the drain is totally blocked tells you how well it is cleaned. Western brands should just not besmirch their reputation here. Simply not good enough to justify being called a Westin. If this is the best that Xiamen has to offer then there is no need to visit here.
