Stayed as part of a tour group and were delighted on the whole. Room very comfortable, spacious, and clean. Staff were generally fantastic - friendly and helpful in a manner than didn't seem 'put on' as in so many other places. Loved the décor throughout - and great artwork in public spaces. Parking very good with 'Blue Badge' drop off point and lots of accessible spaces. We would have no hesitation in returning. Only downside was water pressure (may be because of age of plumbing) and the seeming inability to have bedside lamps on without having all other lights on (my husband did ask a young woman on Reception about this and she replied 'that's correct' which we found unhelpful and quite rude). Fortunately she was the only staff member to be less than wonderful so didn't take the edge off the total experience.
Excellent restaurant - food and service top class. Bedroom dated but OK. Bathroom however was looking very tired (ex 1980s?). Water pressure very low not providing a good shower. Mould on the shower hose. Extractor vent showing decay.
It was very hot when I arrived and the window was stuck shut so someone had to open it. I saw my friends room and it was nicer, larger and had an air con unit on the wall. I asked the receptionist why didn't I have a room of the same standard, my friends said executive room on her door. We had paid the same price. I could be moved to another building with air con but it would cost an extra £10 a night. I said to pass on the fact that I was unhappy with the room. Why should I pay extra. My friend had air con and a larger room on the same floor. My friend complained the next day that she couldn't sleep because the room had a humming noise. She was moved to a room the size of her flat!!! I was not happy. The receptionist did not help, the customer is always wrong apparently as all the rooms are of the same quality. I'm used to better customer service if she had been more helpful I wouldn't have got so worked up and cross. Won't stay here again.
Everything very good except check out time being 11am. Too early for a weekend leisure stay after a party . The pool was good but too full of children to be able to swim . I like to swim when travelling for fitness , relaxation , to unwind and to prevent recurrence of back trouble , therefore i need space to swim without children EVERYWHERE dominating the entire pool . I suggest either a roped off area for swimmers or times when children a prohibited the pool .
I stayed here with the wife as I was taking part in a triathlon just up the road so the location of it was the selling point more than anything else. I left it last minute to book accommodation and as this was so near it won by default. I read a few reviews before I booked just to make sure it wasn't a whopper and all the reviews all came up good so I booked. All in all the hotel is great, the room was big, although we were told we were upgraded, there was a wedding on so that might have been why. The bed was huge and really comfy - a got a good nights sleep before the race so bonus. The only negative is the decor and general feel of the place. It's very much stuck in the mid 90's. It must have been the inspiration for the Travel Tavern in the Alan Partridge series. Everything was of this theme. I'm sure there is/was a market for this look and feel but it really wasn't for me. But like I say, the room and the bed was good...just being critical of the decor, which is necessarily what you buy when booking a room, possibly?
Lovely hotel but extremely buzy in restaurant and couldn't get a decent time to book a table so had room service which was great again the same problem for the Sunday lunch time they heavily booked up in advance?? So I would book restaurant well in advance before you're stay, the hotel is very clean nice staff and would definitely return
I just wanted to thank you for an amazing evening on Friday night for my Parents 60th wedding anniversary. The food was out standing. The service was perfect. Everyone had such a great evening. Please thank everyone involved in making it such a success. My Mum and Dad were so happy with the room, the food, their bedroom, everything really. It was a truly memorable evening and I can't thank you enough.
Firstly I would like to say the staff where very friendly and helpful. The only thing was (not for me) but maybe the knowledge of wines wasn't great at dinner (these where generic names not where they came from). The overall feel of the property is it tired and a mish mash of styles so it's hard to know what the property wants to be. It's almost like it wants to be an old colonial style but it doesn't quite work and the coffee area is more like a leisure centre from the 90's (with lots of people doing sports then walking through which doesn't add to the atmosphere). The soft drink was watered down. The food in the restaurant was presented well and the only room with air con in the building. I opted for the Beef burger and chips which to be honest where very pub style and the burger could do with less salad and a nice BBQ glaze to go with it. The chips where pretty bland. Breakfast was okay though the scrambled eggs where a funny colour in places. The rooms where tired with no air con (considering it was 26c) and only a fan supplied. I was in a room with extra bunk beds (not sure why). Again the overall feel of the room was dated and could do with updating to a more modern standard. The bathroom had a plastic wall mounted hairdryer and the feel was if that of a hotel room in Europe. I think if the property had an image over haul (keep the heritage but with a modern twist) there's potential but each area seems completely different. And the corridors where pretty depressing as they felt like "prisoner cell block H" so I'm not sure what that styling was about? The gardens outside looked lovely.
This hotel was so amazing. The room was so spacious and had everything you needed. The staff where so helpful and kind and friendly. The food was excellent. So tasty and lots of choice. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. Thenkyou for a wonderful stay. Xx
Positives: great golf course, food was very nice Negatives: Breakfast and dinner service in the restaurant was very poor, lots of staff in a nearly empty restaurant who on numerous occasions ignored us. Hotel rooms are very old fashioned, lock on the bedroom door was faulty so couldn't lock it at night and the bedroom window was left open and wouldn't close so left it open for our stay! In need of a refurbishment in the main building.
