I stayed at this hotel with my daughter as a convenient base for the Barbury horse trials in Marlborough. Despite the dated and slightly shabby exterior, the service levels are excellent. All staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The food was also very well presented and both dinner and breakfast menus were fresh and plentiful. We stayed here two years ago, and I noticed a big improvement. Good clean swimming pool and decent gym. My daughter was especially delighted with excellent free WiFi, which is unusual in most budget hotels!
We came to the Holiday Inn on a stop by before meeting up with friends the next day. The service was very good and we really enjoyed the Breakfast. The staff was friendly as well. I would recommend staying here.
Stayed with a large group for a weekend. Considering the number of us, the staff were unfailingly friendly and efficient in all respects. It's rare to find every member of a hotel staff so courteous and smiling from serving breakfast to late night drinks and busy dinners. Hotel is clean and comfortable and we very much enjoyed staying. A draft ale or one of the new craft ales would be nice but that's a minor issue!
Impeccable stay great front of desk service, the food was really really good and the room I stayed in was fantastic. This was a complete change from the room I stayed in the previous night at sevenoaks and it restored my faith in the chain.
We came to the Holiday Inn with National Coaches. Our stay was very enjoyable, made more so by the excellent staff who were all very friendly and helpful. The Manager Bill was extremly helpful and cheerful and could not do more to make sure we had everything we wanted, I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
I have stayed in this hotel while renovation work was carried out on my home. I had a lovely room, clean and with toiletries provided. Used room service - this was delivered quickly and all the staff in the hotel were very friendly The swimming pool could do with updating, but the hotel is doing room 'upgrades', perhaps they will include the pool. A great place to stay if you want to explore The Cotswolds as the A419 is nearby. Also good transport links into Swindon. No problem with parking. There is no lift and it was quite a trek to my room on the first floor - something to bear in mind, if one has mobility problems. Hotel looks a bit drab from the outside, but has lovely outdoor seating areas leading off the lounge area. The outside doesn't do the Hotel justice.
I had been booked into the Holiday inn with a 3rd party due to a Stag Do package. All of the Staff was friendly and very chatty. We had a few problems due to the 3rd party booking NOT THE HOLIDAY INN. The staff was very helpful with sorting things out for us making sure we had everything we needed. The rooms where lovely and nice clean. We got chatty with Vicky who was serving us at the Bar who told us a few good places togo to in Swindon. The next morning when we came down for breakfast again we was greeted with nice warm smiles from the staff and Vickey even came over to see if we had a good night. (I am sorry can't remember the names of the other staff) I think the one chap was the manager who also came over to make sure we had a good night out and we was all ok. Would definitely stay at this hotel again if we go out in Swindon. Thank you to all the staff Marks Stag Do
There is no consistency to this hotel. Certain aspects are superb but this hotel really can't get the basics right. 1. IHG status is not recognised. As an Ambassador and Spire Elite member a recognition would have been nice. Water had to be requested for the room and no extra amenities were provided despite being promised. 2. Do not expect a newspaper to your room. Also on a Sunday the lounge is void of papers. 3. Despite the hotel being at 100% occupancy, no sign of the general manager Samir Sharma. Instead the hotel is under the control of various Duty Managers. 4. Room Cleaning. We requested via the door request our room to be cleaned at 9.30am. By 15.45 after a day out, the room had not been touched. Housekeeping is devoid of Management on a Bank Holiday weekend. The room was later done mid afternoon. 5. The hotel is refurbishing the rooms. The refurb is basic and superficial. 6. There is no pride in the common areas. Outside the housekeeping office there were dirty trays. Staff simply walked past these and said another department deals with this. The few positives: 1. Bilal Hussain, the Hotels Operations Manager. He ran the Food and beverage operation to a very high standard. However please note if you have a taste card, this is not accepted, despite it still being on the taste website. 2. The Spirit Health Club. Although compact everything works and has friendly staff. 3. Plenty of plug sockets in the room. Good WIFI signal throughout the hotel and clear TV pictures. With visible Senior managers the product could be a lot better at no extra cost.
The latest IHG disaster in the crumbling Holiday Inn brand is something to behold. Load up your GPS with all the power you can muster to find this one. Marooned on the M4, swindon could well hold claim to the title of 'doughnut city' with it's London-overspill era roundabouts and sprawling council estates. This HI hides snugly off a slip road on one of the faceless roundabouts and you enter the car park next to a petrol station some dodgy houses and- yes- I saw a burnt out car dumped on the hotel periphery. As you enter the car park you can barely believe your eyes: you don't know whether to laugh, cry or quickly cancel the booking as you are faced with what can only be described as a 1970s Butlins in front of you. The flat-roofed two storey motel-like building is- from the outside, run-down and dated. Worse is to come. Grab a tea and read on.... As you enter the reception, you realise that this HI is shared with some kind of a cheapo 'health spa' and sweaty types with cheap and nasty gym gear are coming out as you try to check in- this must be a parasitic agreement as neither can make enough money to survive. The bar is precariously perched on the side, with a crummy offering of beer. Staff are nice- they smile a lot- probably from embarrassment and the lady on reception helped me a lot- although when I asked if you could get the bus into town from here she described a path to the bus stop- there is no path- so if you are in a suit- you will have to drive. Best off staying in town or the Marriott. Dilapidated is not the word.....everything in terms of decor is peeling, scratched, broken, damp or falling to bits. Basically, the decor is a disgrace- and you've not got to your room yet! Carpet, walls, painting, everything is from 1972- and I know- I remember it. Dank and damp smell permeates the property. Security is NON-EXISTANT. The doors to this holiday camp are left wide open across the property- believe me when I say that anyone can walk into this place, and being in Swindon- this is a serious risk. Once your tears have dried and you enter your room things improved. Updated and modernised in 1873, the room is a little better than the exterior. The British disease of no hospitality whatsoever of course dictates that firstly, you won't get a minibar you stinking Anglo-saxon thief and then, there is NO SAFE. This is not unique to IHG but is unbelievable and only the UK that does not provide you with a safe. IHG save every penny. NO FRIDGE- so you are not even trusted with wanting to keep a beer cold. Pathetic. This is 2017. The decor is dated with formica table and a quick lick of white paint across the surfaces to make it look classy. Air con doesn't work as usual in a HI, the tap was broken and sprayed water across wiltshire and the soap had ran out. No room service delivered here- god knows how they would manage to bring breakfast! Bed and duvet not bad. The windows- not updated since it was built- no double glazing- disgrace. In summary, you should be paid to be here, not the other way round. Don't risk it if you have business or an event here. Outdated, under-supplied, dirty and dangerous- and to top it all- you have to share your hotel with a tacky health club. What a dump. I will enjoy reading the standard managment reply which will attempt to explain away the above, but in the end they will fail- but it will be entertaining. CWZ hereby challenges IHG to contact him and I will stay in IHG properties for 2 years across the globe, all expenses paid and I will tell you how to sort this mess out. Advice- pay the extra buck for Marriott or stay in the HI Express.
