as far as hotel's go in the Yukon - this one would be considered upscale. The rooms are clean, centrally located - just a few blocks from the downtown core, popular pub/bar with good food & comfortable rooms.
I stayed here for 2 nights, one in each end of my trip to Dawson. Both nights, staff were incredibly kind and helpful. The 2nd night I actually got upgraded to a wonderful suite with a huge jaccuzi tub! I loved it! The room on the first night was small, but very comfortable. The hotel is located very close to the waterfront and only a few blocks away from the main strip of Whitehorse. What I really appreciate when I'm away from home is the kindness of help of the staff. When you're tired from travel or need any info, they make your life easier. I wpuld happily stay here again and would recommend it for anyone staying in Whitehorse!
My stay at the Coast High Country in Whitehorse was enjoyable. The staff are very friendly and helpful (both with hotel amenities or recommending venues/shopping/activities around town. The hotel could use some modernization, and while my room had a window air conditioner most do not. Perhaps it isn't usually a problem but we were there during +30 weather and most of the others staying there were very uncomfortable as the rooms became too hot to be in. My room was very clean and the location is awesome.
After a mix up with our reservation, which the staff handled well, our one night stay was good. The free shuttle to and from the airport is what made us book this hotel. Location is good to walk to the city sights.
I spoke on the phone with an amazingly helpful and kind gentleman that inquired about my needs and tailored the reservation to those needs! Once I got to the hotel, the gentleman checking us in was efficient and polite. The room was nice and the value was amazing!!! If I ever go through Whitehorse, I'll try to stay at this Coast Hotel again.
We were sent here because our hotel was overbooked. I walked in with frustration and June the desk clerk took great care of me. First room smelled musty and he had someone take me to a different room to check smell. Second room was fine. No air conditioning in the hotel. 85 degrees outside. June came to the rescue with fans and free breakfast. He was kind and understanding. Hotel has laundry which was super nice. Everyone we encountered was kind and friendly. They certainly changed my mood. Free wifi too. Beds and pillows were comfortable.
We rolled into Whitehorse at 2:00am and made our way to the Coast Inn based off of an internet recommendation. We were greeted by Bari, the front desk night clerk, he kindly welcomed us an expedited the process for getting us to our room. Since we were arriving so late he gave us a great discount and offered to extend our check out time till noon. He was very kind and courteous and welcoming. He arranged everything very quickly and got us to our room so we could rest. The room was clean, the linen was fresh and we had a view that overlooked our car so we could keep an extra eye on it (our car was packed with all of our goods because we were in the process of moving). The bathroom was stocked with earth friendly soaps and shampoos. The room also came with a separate fan and space heater so we could very quickly adjust the temperature of the room and not have to wait on the thermostat. It was a great stay! Thank you Bari!
Was extremely pleased with staff and the cleanliness of my room. The hotel is showing its age and requires some maintenance & replacement upgrades however, this did not negatively impact my stay. I will definitely return to the wonderful city if Whitehorse and will likely stay at the Coast High Country Inn again.
What a mess! Discovered carpet in room soaked from water leaking into floor from wall, probably leaky old pipes in the walls. Anyone that runs this dump ever heard of the serious health risks from mildew??? Musty smell throughout. Terrible place to stay, with a tiny, stuffy room (heat won't shut off and no air conditioning either). Noisy and loud, apparently the staff does not enforce quiet hours. Cramped little tiny bathrooms, can't turn around in the shower. However, I have to say all of the staff were polite, friendly and tried to make the best of an old, beat down hotel. This hotel needs to be torn down and rebuilt, or scraped to the studs and a full renovation....not the piecemeal, little bit at a time approach they have been doing. No matter how nice the staff is, I wouldn't stay here again, even if they gave me a free vacation. Avoid, unless you have nowhere else to go and would have to sleep on the street. Then again, you might try finding a park bench instead! You will see shortly that the room manager will respond to this review, and of course every single review. Very annoying they do this, and makes it look like they are covering up the poor condition of this place, but at the same time, they did issue a full refund of our stay and were professional at all times. But no matter how nice the staff is, it does not make up for the worn out hotel. #Same Staff #New Hotel!
The High Country was a good choice for me. Quiet rooms, we'll appointed. The guest services staff at reception were very professional and personal. Natalie or Natasha, as well as Oviana were very good members and helpful to me. I will definitely recommend this hotel to others.
