Older hotel that was perfect for our downtown visit. Staff was very good.
For the money, this was EXCELLENT! The hotel is definitely well maintained, however it is very basic, not plush at all. And that is OK. You aren't paying for plush. And the location is GREAT!
The room was very comfortable and enjoyed the stay
Picked this property based on location which was right for us. But you could here all pedestrian and vehicle traffic from the 7th floor like you were on the street. Nice size room. Beds still have old style spring mattress without pillow tops. Small elevators-max 6 people.
Nice location with easy access to downtown activities. Hotel was very dated, room was not very clean, and the bathroom faucet and shower were old and rusty.
It was kind of creepy to see all the no guns signs and signs all over saying lock your vehicle because hotel is not responsible for stolen goods. It had a weird smell in the hallways too.
No control of temp. in the room. Breakfast was bad. No hot water for tea or oatmeal. In general pretty old and getting rundown.
Great time in Wheeling and our room was very clean!!
This is a very neat old Hotel with history and character. However, the parking garage doesn't line up with floors, so you either go up or down seven steps. And due to it's age the heating and A/C are seasonal. We stayed in late April, so the A/C was not on. However it was a warm sunny day and the room was very warm. They provided us with a fan but moving HOT air doesn't help much. Finally in the evening time they informed us the windows would open. But this let in all the street noise. We were supposed to stay 2 nights but left after 1 night.
We visited Wheeling for a concert at the Capitol Theater and booked a reasonably priced room at the McLure. The only time we spent in the room was to sleep and then shower in the morning and I have no complaints. The location was extremely convenient to the theater, and there was free indoor parking in a garage that's connected to the hotel. The gentlemen working the hotel desk were very friendly and answered all our questions about the area.
Seemed like a nice place at first. Next morning found that there was no carafe for the coffee maker, the bathroom sink was plugged, and worse, the shower had no water. Decided to just check out and go home. Reported all this to the front desk when we left. Did not get as much as an apology.
We spent the night in Wheeling on our way to PA. Just wanted an inexpensive, decent place, close to the freeway (and casino!). This was perfect! Not the Ritz Carlton but neither was the price tag. I loved that there was a refrigerator and microwave. The bed was very comfortable. We're looking for an excuse to go back to Wheeling just to stay here again! (Check out Abby's restaurant if you're looking for a fun place to grab a bite to eat!)
All was good really no complaints room clean didn't try restaurant or lounge in lobby
the hotel is very close to all major highways. rooms were much larger than i had anticipated. we even had a good size refrigerator with freezer in our toom. rooms were clean and the connected parking garage was perfect.
the hotel has creepy elevator and it old fashion rooms with age to the building. has very cold ac in month of july. ice and candy machine every floor. towel are little rough to dry off on. one block from river front and boat dock.
Found a hypodermic needle in the chair in the room. It was capped, but that made it no less disturbing. Called the front desk and the gentlemen who came up to retrieve the item acted like it was completely normal.
The continental breakfast was not the greatest. It could use a new menu.
This was the worst experience I have had staying at a place. On the inside this is a gorgeous historical hotel and it really is a shame that it sits in the area it does. There are people standing on street corners from day to night handing off money, yelling at each other, drunk and stumbling around. You think it will be ok since the hotel at least has a parking garage and that is monitored, right? Wrong! We entered around 1pm-no attendant, left came back at 11pm still no attendant, however there were lots of drunks screaming and yelling obscenities and blocking all paths to get by in the garage though! Oh and let's not forget the mouse droppings in the dresser and nightstand drawers...or the people screaming and arguing in the room next to us...or the drunk man threatening my husband and falling on top his own vehicle in the parking garage as well. Like I said, horrible experience.
