Stayed here one night on the way through to Queenstown. From memory it was a 6/8 bed dorm but had space and beds were comfy. Bathrooms were fine but kitchen was quite small and not a lot of space. Staff were friendly. Right next to supermarket which is perfect and close enough to everywhere else you need.
Staff who checked me in where really friendly and helpful.... bed was comfy (but so squeaky).... room had heating and was lovely and warm (needed)! Nice hot shower, but the showers/changing area is so small and I feel like the doors are put in the wrong way, it's difficult to get into the shower but not major for one night stay..... kitchen was basic and freezing but I think there's work going on there..... I hated base in Auckland but this was a pleasant surprise. Great location.... Overall a prettt decent hostel....Would stay again!
You expect a certain level when you stay in base hostels and you pay around $30 a night. The room was freezing cold and the carpet was wet. The bin had also not been emptied when we checked in and we had to ask for it to be changed twice. The bed I slept in also had blood stained sheets which was disgusting. Not up to the standard that we were expecting. I won't be staying here again.
We stayed here for one night just on the way to Queenstown, and the room was fine. The bathroom was a bit dirty but okay, but it was the staff that let it down. They were rude and unhelpful, but again we only stayed the one night so maybe we caught them on a bad day! The location was good, very close to the lake and to the bars.
Stayed for 1 night when passing through Wanaka. The location of the accomodation was good: only a 5 minute walk from the lake front restaurants and cafes. The double room with ensuite bathroom was clean and comfortable. I didn't use the communal areas so couldn't comment on those. Staff were unfailingly rude and unhelpful during every interaction we had. Would not return or recommend purely because of the awful staff.
Met lots of people, very friendly and chilled staff. Awesome to have a bar directly downstairs, and balcony outside kitchen is nice as well. Movie room also good. Here's some more words so my review is long enough.
The rooms were fine, quite spacious and the beds were ok. the location was really good too. The kitchen was far too small for how many people stay there. Trying to cook was a nightmare!! The staff here too were all useless as well. I booked over the phone to ensure me and my friends were in the same room and didn’t have to move rooms for a second night stay. I was assured twice that this would not be a problem (as it had been for my friends in the past at base). When we turned up for our booking we were told we couldn’t all be together and had to move room. I don’t usually bother about these kind of things but as I had been assured by two members of staff over the phone that this wouldn’t be the case I was annoyed. Eventually after half an hour they sorted it so we didn’t have to move so I proceeded to pay. I was then was called back to the reception two hours later because they had undercharged me and needed more money from me. That annoyed me also as they had already messed up my booking. More staff training is definitely needed (There was 1 Scottish girl who was maybe the only member of staff who knew what she was doing in that place). Hopefully it has improved since March as it does actually have potential but the staff annoyed me too much.
Great location, next door to a massive New World and 2mins from the lake. Beds and bathrooms standard, nothing special or stands out. Kitchen was kinda small with not many tables to eat at. There is a TV room with DVD players though, can choose films from reception which was pretty cool!
Stayed in Base Wanaka recently and had a lovely experience! Really friendly and helpful staff, especially in reception! Our room was clean and comforatble and didn't have any issues with it! There's also free wifi which is a huge plus! Their location is perfect too, from the kitchen you get gorgeous mountain views and they are only a few minutes walk from the lake and the town centre :) They also have a great bar with really nice food! Definitely recommend staying here!!
I really enjoyed my time at Base in Wanaka! The reception staff were so friendly and helpful, they were able to answer all my questions about the local area and helped me plan some activities I wanted to do! My room was clean and the beds were comfy! I ventured down to the bar in the evening and had a burger and a beer for $15! The burger came with a generous portion of chips and was deeeelicious! Really good drinks deals as well :) The hostel is located really close to the lake and there's a supermarket right next door! Such a great time in Wanaka and hope I can come back one day!! :)
