In remote towns like Wakkanai, you cannot expect a lot. I was surprised that i found IHG chained Crowne plaza hotel in Wakkanai. I looked at other hotels in this town, others are cheap motel level or more or less Japanese 70's 80's style hotels. Yet, the price is competitive, however, the service is the excellent. Luckily, i was upgraded to the suite room, the room was super spacious, i would say the space of the entrance room is as big as a room in Tokyo metropolitan area hotel. the living and bed room is 2.5-3 times bigger than the entrance room. There are one rest room, one bath room with separated shower. There was also one bar room, which we did not use at all. It is literally 5 minutes easy flat walk from the station and the bus terminal, great ocean view, easy walk to some good restaurants in the town. I even walked to Noshappu cape, it was 30 minutes walk. Thus, the hotel is located in very convenient and good place. You cannot miss the breakfast in the hotel, it is buffet and there are many from locals. I enjoyed every bit of local food, it was so delicious. I totally recommend this hotel if you are planning to stay in Wakkanai.
This northernmost hotel of the ANA group is a good choice for its large beds, quite rooms and modern facilities. The breakfast buffet is a good choice due to the lack of choice nearby. Good views of the bluff over the city.
I was pleased with the Crowne Plaza, as usual. Very spacious room, friendly service, and a nice "wow" factor when you walk into the lobby. It's a very short walk to the train station (though it's totally windswept in winter), and the airport bus stops right at the door (one stop past the train station).
ANA Crowne Plaza Hotel does not have any temperature control for its air-conditioning. it comes pre-set and the only thing that is within your control is whether you want it High or Low fan. Service is just standard, but the room is pretty huge and is clean. Breakfast is buffet style with just the standard fare and we were disappointed to note that they do not have any of the famous Hokkaido seafood on offer, except for the cod roe.
We had a family trip in Hokkaido and drove for 6 hours to Wakkanai, the most northern and coldest city in Japan. We had booked 3 rooms for 2 nights. When we checked in, I friendly asked if we could stay at the sea view rooms. The front desk said that the second day were completely full at the hotel. So I friendly asked if we could have the sea view room for just only at the first night. then they replied "Sorry We Can't Do That."..Yes, only the 5 words and then she kept silence.... That was amazing and even a little wired for me. They seems doesn't like to help their guests and the answer is even unprofessional at all. What does that mean "We can't do that?" I was wondered is it very inconvenient or difficult to deal with? I had been stayed for more than 60 hotels in Japan and this is my first time to have a bad feeling and experience...
The hotel is located overlooking the most northernmost part of the island of Hokkaido. Because of its isolation, it is very quiet and relaxing to stay there. Within walking distance is the ferry boat pier that provides transportation to the nearby little islands. A reserved, but helpful staff. The spacious room has a soothing décor with light wood furnishings and maroon accents, two small chairs and a desk, well lighted, heater and air system, 3 mirrors, lots of toiletries, firm beds and soft pillows. Breakfast and dinner servings are elegant and bountiful.
The hotel and staff certainly met expectations. Rooms are clean and pleasant, with every amenity one normally finds in a Japanese hotel. This is a small town, therefore we did not expect good English. However, the staff made up for it with their professional attitude and their willingness to be helpful. Rooms are cleaned to very good standards and house-keeping obviously start early and staff are better organised than most hotels of this category. Room service breakfast was good but they should be take care to be consistent. For example, the first morning we did not have any butter; on the second morning, there was butter but no marmalade. It was, all in all, a pleasant stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the Wakkanai area.
Only stayed overnight on this hotel. It is situated next to the harbour and overlooking the wakkanai bay. The disappointment is that the day we arrived and leave wakkanai is covered with heavy fog so we cannot see much from our room windows. The room that we got is spacious and not the normal Japanese room size. The bathtub is Western size and it is clean. Overall I don't mind staying back again if coming back wakkanai.
Location is great to catch the Ferry. Right next to the Ferry terminal. Got the breakfast buffet, which as ok. Unfortunately the mango slices were cut with the same knife or board that cut some fish, so you can smell/take fishy mango!! Rooms are small but clean. Some restaurant options around town.
Hotel is located near JR wakkanai station, just across the road. Hotel is within 10 mins walk to ferry terminal.. In case you want to visit Rebun and Rishiri island. Room is clean and spacious. They provide complete amenities including eye warmer for good sleep experience. Please ask for sea view room. Receptionist speak good english and is helpful.
