The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono

If you are looking for a resort-like visit, this isn't the spot for you. But the Inn has a very wonderful "Old Hawaii" vibe in a central location that makes getting around the island convenient. Breakfast was delicious and the hosts were very accommodating. They have all the expertise you need to have a wonderful stay. If you like bed and breakfasts - you won't regret this stay.

If you don’t need to be on the beach, The Old Wailuku Inn at Ulupono, just a short drive from the airport, offers an authentic Hawaiian experience of aloha. This historic property was built in 1924 as a wedding gift for the owner’s daughter-in-law. Ulupono, which means “to grow and flourish in righteousness,” is the name of the property, not its geographic location. An ulu (breadfruit) tree continues to flourish where it was planted on the day the property was blessed. The Inn has 10 Hawaiian-themed guest rooms, some with private gardens and lanais. The star here, though, is the sumptuous 2-course breakfast served daily at 8:00am. Service begins with fresh fruit in season, some of which is picked right on the grounds. The rotating menu of entrees includes banana pancakes topped with macadamia nuts, breakfast enchiladas, French toast topped with a cheese and mint sauce, etc. Other complimentary amenities include use of beach towels and mats, coolers for picnics, snack jars kept filled with cookies and chips, mini-refrigerators for personal items, and WiFi. Tip: It may make sense to book directly with The Old Wailuku Inn as third party booking sites may not display all available rooms.

This family-run inn is a delight: very comfortable, nicely appointed, helpful staff, close to the Maui airport. We enjoyed the ample breakfast served family style one morning and were accommodated with an early breakfast the second morning because of an early flight. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys the bed and breakfast experience!

We just returned from a week on Maui. We opted to stay at a B&B so that we would experience more of a quiet vacation. We were so happy with our decision to stay at the Old Wailuku Inn. Tom and Janice are wonderful hosts. Our room, the Ulu was wonderful. The room was spacious and very comfortable. The breakfasts were wonderful and the company was awesome. We met folks from all over the world. A wonderful experience. We will stay there again should we return.

The property is very charming - an old manor house that has been extremely well cared for. Our room (Mokihana room) was very spacious, clean as a whistle, and decorated tastefully with lots of interesting historic knickknacks. The bathroom was large and modern. The common room and veranda were comfy/cozy. The garden's well-tended and colorful. A few things keep this from being a 5-star rating, primarily its location next to the highway. It can't be helped - the property is where it is - but the constant traffic noise, even at night, is a put-off and taints the ambience. We tried lounging on the veranda but quickly gave up because of the road noise. They have been thoughtful to put a noise-generator in the room and we had ours set to "ocean surf", which helped. We also had a problem with the hot water - or lack of it. Because they have the water pump on a timer, if you want a hot shower during the off-times, you have to let the water run a very long time. Unfortunately they don't inform you of that in advance, so you end up with a couple days of lukewarm/cool showers. And when you're paying that much for a room, you should be able to expect a hot shower. Still, the pluses outweigh the minuses and it deserves a Very Good rating.

a very nice place in a quiet suburb of the main city on the north shore about a 10-15 minute drive from the airport. very nice staff and owners. room was excellent and breakfast served at 8 am each morning was even better and shared with other guests who tended to be older crowd as we were. the hosts tried to make everyone feel welcome tho dealing with their lots of rules was a bit of a pain. nice common areas. you do need a car to get around from this place. I would stay here again.

Loved our stay! Super nice owners and staff. The breakfasts were outstanding! Would definitely recommend! Perfect place to stay to go anywhere in Maui. Would love to stay here again sometime! If we ever get to go back to Maui that is.

I visited this Bed and Breakfast a couple of years ago and was very happy with the property. The beds are done with Hawaiian quilts and furniture. Very tastefully decorated and large rooms. Nice gallery and garden. I did visit before March 2018.It is conveniently located in Wailuku and is walking distance to churches, shops, restaurants, museum and the theatre.

We really enjoyed the hospitality here. Tom and Janice were very nice and welcoming. Offered ideas each morning on things to do and places to have dinner. The breakfasts each morning are fabulous! Comfortable beds and the showers were great too. We stayed in the Puakenikeni Room and it was very comfortable. The location is good to home base on Maui with its central location.

This is a perfect place to explore central Maui from. It is in a residential area so quiet at night except for the roosters ( which are everywhere in Maui). The hosts make an amazing breakfast every morning and share their insights. We were fortunate to share the morning table with a 91 year old celebrating her birthday by traveling with friends which added to the fun. The rooms are clean and bonus cookies on a plate every night. It wasn't even for Santa but for us!
