The room was clean and the view was amazing. Everyone at the Volcano House was very helpful and friendly. There was no air conditioning but there was a fan in the closet and it was very pleasant. The history of this place is so neat. There is a refrigerator but no microwave which would have been handy to warm up left overs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!

Spacious room, clean , comfortable bed, quiet at night. Building showing its age, but is cosy. Great views from dining)bar areas. Evening meals good choice and good quality. Nice staff and good service Best location for volcanoes, trails and national Park. Breakfast isn't great, traditional buffet self serve, only filter coffee, food&coffee wasn't good quality.

The rooms are very basic though very pricey. Rather drab. Staff started off cranky and terse but got nicer during our stay. There was one housecleaner who was so sweet and so helpful and working very hard. There is no guest parking so when it’s a crowded day, you have to search and wait for a parking spot. The rooms are VERY loud…you can hear everything the neighbors are doing in the bathroom, doors slamming, people talking! Beds are rather uncomfortable and don’t ever use the blanket provided..may as well be sandpaper! Long wait for dinner in the dining room.

Historic property with nice rooms and public areas. Amazing views of the volcano and you can't beat the convenience of staying here if you're planning on hiking the park. The staff is very nice and helpful.

BUYER BEWARE!!! This property charged me twice !! I paid through Expedia and then they also charged my credit card for the price of a room after I left! I’ve called several times and haven’t gotten it resolved. The place was ok, but not at the double price they charged me! Also- be very wary about booking with Expedia. I had several issues on this trip to Hawaii and Expedia was no help! And when I tried to resolve it with the hotel and the airline they said since I booked through a 3rd party I had to call Expedia. Which I did and it still didn’t get resolved. A complete runaround with no one taking responsibility!!! And if an airline goes on strike, forget it. You are on your own. Not the relaxing trip I needed to say the least! I hope this helps others so this doesn’t happen to them.

The lodge is spectacularly located a mile from the world’s most active volcano. Amazing views and easy access to miles of trails. At 4,000 ft elevation, the air is cool. We wore long sleeves and jackets in August. The rooms are clean and comfortable, old fashioned with windows that open and no AC. The lobby areas need to be refurbished but were also clean. We didn’t try the restaurant. Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay again.

The locations is unique and special. I recommend it to anyone wanting to experience something out of the ordinary. The hotel is original and the staff is very friendly and helpful. It is quiet, and the view of the volcano crater from the rooms is outstanding. There are two cute souvenir shops and two places where you can eat and have drinks. All in all a unique experience without the hefty price tag.
