We stayed in Vieques for one night in order to experience the bioluminescent bay, and Trade Winds was the perfect place to stay. We are already thinking of other reasons to come back and bring friends.

The location and views are fantastic. However, we experienced issues with the floor needing vacuuming, the sink faucet water pressure being extremely low, and the shower water temperature fluctuating between scalding hot to very cool.

Room was clean and ready early for check in with a code provided by email. The room was nothing fancy, but adequate and maintained well. Staff were around even though the restaurant was closed Friday and Saturday. Very convenient location for bio bay.
When we arrived around 5pm noone was there to check us in. We then booked another property as we had no other choice. About and hour or so later, got email through expedia with self check in options. Now we ended up paying for 2 rooms.
The room was smelly, there was no one to assist or any sign where the guest house was. The restaurant was closed most of the times. The towels were dirty

Staff we met on the first day were restaurant people and they were great. Room had no windows and we only found out when we were leaving that the back door did open to a porch but there were no instructions that that was possible. Bathroom stank of sewage and bathmat was wet on our arrival. Great location.

Great location, comfortable bed, good restaurant (though a little pricey), friendly staff, nice shared patio/deck to lounge in that is separate from the restaurant. Shower was bad - we booked room 1 and 2. One shower was cold water only and the other had no water pressure and was either scalding hot or cold. Rooms are located NEXT to kitchen so it’s very noisy when the restaurant is open or closing. Pots and pans banging and workers working/talking. Can’t blame them for doing their job, but just be aware that there will be noise up to at least midnight.

The room is in need of a renovation, the ceiling paint was falling off and the room was full of mosquitoes. Also, parking space is fairly limited, no more than six cars can fit in that parking spot.
The only good things to say about the place are the location, air conditioning, and mini-fridge (no microwave). However, the bathroom is just awful. The door provides no privacy whatsoever. The shower temp controls are broken, and getting the right temperature in the shower is almost impossible. The bathroom's shower needs to be redone since it seems very dirty and has multiple types of tiles (like patches). The bathrooms and especially the shower, need to be redone to make this a good place to stay. The closet is useless with doors that do not open correctly. This is caused by trying to create a tropical look, but with bad carpentry and materials. I recommend to just removing those latched doors (with incorrect latches and doors too long for the space and placing simple running curtains wth a tropical design. The check-in and check-out process was simple and effective. The doors with number codes is a very good process to avoid carrying keys around. The price for the place is very good until you see the bathroom that needs rework. And please add a microwave.
TLDR: Modest but solid choice for an overnight stay for biobay. The restaurant has the best food and drinks in Esperanza, hands down (I went to all of the restaurants). Get the burger. The staff was phenomenal.
I learned after I booked my stay here that the biobay tours do not happen during full moons. I reached out to trade winds and they were beyond accommodating. They changed my reservation days, and even offered an upgrade! Check in is contactless. The rooms are modest, but clean and comfortable and have a roomba to get rid of sand (so cute!). Right across from an entrance to the beach. I would stay here again just for the staff and the food. The food here was the highlight of my stay in Vieques, no joke. Thank you!
The ocean was not visible from room. No hot water. Bathroom door has to be fully shut for access to light switch (which was outside the bathroom) No tv. No microwave. No staff around (self check-in). Restaurant food was excellent but only available after 4pm. We got lucky snagging a parking spot. Bed mattress and pillows were very comfortable. Bathroom tile was painted over with many areas peeling off.

Apparently “check in time is 3pm” for tradewinds means “UNTIL 3 pm”. We and another family arrived around 5:30 and were shocked to find out that, at this one hotel in all the world, the listed check in time is the last time you can check in. And there is no late check in and nothing to do about it. We lost our money and had to scramble for another place at 5:40 pm in little Esperanza.
Yes, when we made the reservation we signed a thing saying no late check in allowed. But the listing in the app clearly says 3pm check in. Sending a passive message is simply not enough. This policy is so outrageously unique that it needs to be treated as such. This is especially true on Vieques, where travelers very easily might not make it by 3pm due to ferries and taxis.
The real kicker is that this policy is completely unnecessary. The property has keypads on the doors! We didn’t need a physical check in at all! The other property I booked at the last minute simply texted me the code. Would have been simple to do the same.
Overall I expect this happens many times. It happened twice on our day.
