This is a mix of hostel and hotel. The hotel's front desk is located at the hostel - where you can get the keys, and check in. First of all, they requested me to pay the city tax in cash when I arrived. So I did, and didn't get any receipt to that. Second. You have to leave the hostel and find a small gate in the other side of the building, up stairs, because there is no elevator in the building. (Imagine doing that with a couple +65 with their luggages). So you'll find a front desk which there is none there. I was lucky to get a room at the first floor. Third. The breakfast was very poor and disappointing. Fourth (and the worst). We were supposed to checkout around 7am and for our (bad) surprise, there wasn't anyone in the front desk of the hostel!!! We had to wait around 15 minutes to find someone there. The person responsible for the breakfast (and NOT for the desk) came and helped me out. Nevertheless, she asked us again about the city tax!!!! The only two good points are: the cleaning and the location. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in Venice, I feel very confident to tell you'll find better options there. I don't recommend this one!
This is a great hotel! Perfectly located and you can walk anywhere in Venice from here. The owner is a really great guy and he personally runs the hotel, they offer a really good breakfast and we had to leave early in the morning to catch the train and he even open the breakfast area early so we wouldn't leave without eating first! How cool is that! Not even on a 5 star hotel they would do that for a guest!
If you are looking for the perfect spot to get in, out, and around Venezia quickly without sacrificing sleep or "atmosphere" quality, Locanda Gaffaro is it! The location of the hotel is impeccable: although only a 10-minute walk south from the train station or the parking garage, the hotel is yet in the center of a residential neighborhood and is quiet at all times. Further 10 minute south is the S Toma vaporetto station which you can easily reach Piazza S Marco. Frari and S Rocco, along with many cheap eats particularly in the local favorite Campo S Magherita, are even closer to the hotel. In other words, you are essentially in the center of the authentic Venice with easy access to other parts of the city thanks to its proximity to many vaporetto stops! While the hotel room itself is not glamorous, its homely setting makes it a perfect place to rest from exploring the beautiful Venezia because of the quiet environment. The included breakfast is a simple yet high-quality selection of choices of pastries and cold cuts to give you a jump start for a new day of exploration. If you are a family or a group, you even get your own balcony over the serene courtyard! No matter what though, a beautiful canal is literally steps away from the hotel door. Overall, I highly recommend staying in this hotel, regardless of the length of your stay! The location simply cannot get any better especially if you plan to use vaporetto.
We stayed at this hotel for a few days before Christmas. It is in a very good location, close to the main bus/train station and close to the main part of Venice. All easily by foot. We walked every where when here and only took around 15 minutes to get to st marks square. The hotel is very clean and the staff are nice and welcoming. The rooms are nice and spacious for two people and include a safe at no extra cost. The breakfast is nice, including croissants, cereal, eggs bread. As the hotel is in a quite area, it is close to reasonably priced restaurants and cafes (€10-€20 for a meal). We would recommend this hotel 100%, we also only paid £42 per night which is very good for a short trip.
This hotel is located in the dorsoduro neighboorhood (just 8 minutes on foot from the Santa Lucia train station). It's in a very quite part, but yet gives you quick access to the San Polo neighboorhood; within 3 minutes you are at the Scuola di San Rocco and another 5 minutes at the vaporetto docking station of San Toma. I had an attic room which was spacious enough for one person and clean! Breakfast is included but was very poor in its varieties. Mind you that the wifi in the attic room was very poor.
We stayed here for 5 nights.only five minutes walk from Piazzle Roma bus station. Some lovely friendly inexpensive restaurants just over the first canal bridge out of hotel. Nice boutique feel with only 8 rooms, patron bit of a character, very helpful . The hotel was close to lively Piazzle Margherita which is close to the university so the cafes are reasonably priced. You can get to St Marks in 20 mins walking .
Lovely little place in a beautifully peaceful corner of Venice. 5 minute walk from Piazzale Roma (bus station), with shops and restaurants within easy reach. Stayed here for two nights with friends. Had a nice comfy, ensuite room with a pretty little balcony. Clean towels and beds made each day. Fresh continental breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. I would absolutely recommend this hotel.
This hotel is very conveniently located. My room was spacious and clean, the bathroom ok. Service is sometimes shaky, I overheard bitter and loud discussions with clients! A n unacceptable feature: breakfast is only served at 8.30!! Overall 225 Euros are largely overpriced. There are certainly better options.
I have nothing good to say about this place. My complaints: 1. Staff - we were met at the door by a rude, smoking old man who turned out to be the receptionist (owner?). He gave us an absolutely horrible, unsafe room. 2. The room - third floor, no windows (two sky light type windows which would have been very difficult to exit in the case of a fire). 3. Poor customer service. We complained about the room and were told there were no others. We contacted out travel agent in the USA who attempted to call the hotel. The old man at the front desk kept hanging up on our travel agent. Our travel agent advised us that they could not reach the front desk and then asked us to bring our cell phone to the front desk. The old man somehow came up with a different room to give us and then scolded us for contacting our travel agent. Unbelievable. 4. Location. Unless you want to be near the train station, this hotel location is not ideal. It is a long walk to most of the major interesting areas in Venice. We don't mind walking but it is about a half hour walk to St. Mark's Plaza. 5. Wifi - worked only about half the time and disconnected often. 6. The only plus is the included free breakfast. It had an ok selection and included coffee and juice. However, we had to sit looking at the grumpy old man at the nearby reception which ruined even that for us. Bottom line - stay elsewhere!
It was a nice hotel, good room, good service, friendly staff. Very difficult to find the hotel, spotty wi-fi but good overall location. Good value for amenities, efficient use of space although everything is somewhat cramped.
