Good points first: 1) It's cheaper than many other locations in the same area 2) the position of this hotel is really comfortable and really close to the railway station. Makes it ideal for who wants to explore Venice by foot. Bad points then: 1) Management and director/owner has changed and this is not advised anywhere 2) We booked on line a couple of months before choosing it because of the services offered in the announce in booking.com, that were eventually not true. 3) One week before the check in I sent them an email to ask if the breakfast was included in the price. They answered me 7 days after, just before the arrival, while I was travelling saying "No" and pretending me to tell the exact time of our arrival (???). Since I didn't reply in a short time, they phoned me directly disturbing us during our travel. 4) There is no reception 5) There is No luggage storage 6) Room was dusty and there was rust in the bathroom, could be more clean than this. Hygiene is not their first concern. 7) It's indeed a room rental masked as a B&B. It was my first time in Venice, and this hotel worked well because afterall it was only for a couple of nights but I won't go back there anyway.
Pros: -Great location and do not have to take the vaporetto (water public transport...that could be on strike) or a water taxi to get there. -Charming and bright clean room with view on the canal (honey moon suite) -Very comfortable bed -Good hospitality and great service -Grocery store very close -Restaurants and Café close by for breakfast (not included) Cons: -no wifi but the staff is very helpful at giving info or printing it for you -no netting in windows...mosquito alert -shower curtain would be nice
I recommend the rooms are cute, it is a good price, practical location near bus drop off from airport But it is a very early check out 10am and i saw that clearly only after booking + my booking was not refundable so wish it was more clearly stated as it is not usual for a hotel such early check out. Since i wasnt expecting that i didnt search for that info.
Overall it's a ok to spend 2-3 nights at Alla Corte Rossa. If you have high standars as i do, this hottel might look a bit old and weird. But if you are planning to spend most of the time outside and visit Venice as we did, then the hottel it's fine to sleep in, at the money that you spend for one night. And let's say that is in tune with the rest of the Venive places and you might think is kind of a romantic place. The staff was very kind and helpfull, giving direction, advices for what to visit, helping us with buss information, calling to make arrangements for us, and all without asking.
The hotel had a great location, just 5 minute easy walk from the bus stop. Take bus #5 from Marco Polo airport, €8 and then walk to hotel. Hotel is a tad hard to find, entrance is alley side. You must ring bell to be let in and once you've checked in the give you a set of keys to open the front door. It faces a very quiet canal and is very close to everything! The hotel is very old with steep stairs taking you to each floor. The rooms are not trendy, but they are very well maintained and very clean. Hands down our favorite part of the trip was the older gentleman, Gigi, who worked the checkin desk in the evenings. He was so helpful and extremely friendly! We asked him a million questions and he always had the answers! Note: extremely thin walls. Just pray your neighbors don't have a love session at 1 am. Gondola ride on grand canal and small canals, academia museum, st marks square, wandering the streets, coffee, wine. Very friendly people. Lots of walking, no taxis but water. Pack light!
The proprietor, Gigi (GG) was a wealth of information and history. A modest, but comfortable room with adjacent sitting room was homey. The tub was a treat to soak in and the hand held shower did well. It felt as though you were visiting a friend. Stairway, but no elevator is a consideration for some. This is the low key setting that was my taste.
Great location, clean and quiet, fantastic staff. There is no wifi, if that's important for you (not for us, it's always refreshing to be off the internet). We've been three times and we're already looking forward to my return.
The Excellent: location, quiet, on canal, super helpful and enthusiastic manager, clean. The Horrible: MOSQUITOES- broken cooling system so windows had to be open. HUNDREDS of bites ALL over face and arms. NO WIFI (enough said). No stand-up shower (tub had no curtain, and shower was hand-held). NO towel replacement (we put ours ON the FLOOR, and they picked them up and hung them. WHAT?!?)
This hotel was in the perfect location, it was easy to find with a very direct route from the bus station. It was also not too far from Campo Santa Margherita which has lots of little cafes and restaurants. The room was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I only have 2 complaints: 1) No Wifi - they said there are lots of cafes to use the wifi, but this means I have to go and sit down and buy something to get the wifi password which is frustrating when after a long day of walking you just want to lay down and do a search for good authentic Italian restaurants 2) breakfast was not that great - it included 2 dry bread rolls each and cheese and jam and a put of cappuccino or whatever you wanted. The coffee was good but I would have liked some fruit or meats with the bread...or some fresher bread. When we return to Venice I would consider staying here again if these two things changed but if not then I would find a place with wifi.
The manager emailed a map of and step-by-step directions to the hotel. The hotel is not far from the main Plaza but is in a quiet, peaceful area. The manager knew English very well and was able to give us recommendations and maps of what to see in Venice. Every night, I sat by the canals right outside the hotel and watched the sunset. It was in such a beautiful area, away from all the tourists-nice and quiet. If I ever go back to Venice, I want to stay here again...it is highly recommended.
