Road trip in Portugal ended up in Valenca at the Pousada. The location is just amazing, forming part of an old fortified village. From our room you had a wonderful view of the River Minho and the spanish town Tui. Rooms are quite big and hitel is quite. The staff is very helpful and service-minded, in the restaurant as well as the reception desk. The village is full of shops selling towels, linen and other textile products. Beware of the narrow gates when driving to the hotel!
My sister and I were walking the Camino Portuguese to Santiago de Compostella. We had no place to stay, and we were too tired to go further. We took a chance on treating ourselves if a room was available. It was, and we were treated as graciously as if we had Louis Vuitton luggage. Our room was clean quiet and overlooking the river. It was difficult to leave Portugal after this.
Stayed one night and was ok. Location is inside the fortress which allows for spectacular views. From the train station it is about a 20 min walk with a slight incline to get up to the top. The fort is alive with tourists in the day but dead at night (after 7pm) but you can still get something to eat at the local restaurants. The hotel is nice. The reception nice with a welcome drink but wish they had a candy bowl. The room we had was a bit stuffy. A/c worked fine and you can open the window for fresh air but beware the mosquitos. The sheets were clean and bed was comfy but we could hear running water when other people around us used their water. Other than the pipes it was quiet. For the amount that you pay you should get more than just shower gel and shampoo. Breakfast had a good variety. Overall this hotel is ok for a treat but not the best value for money. We probably would choose somewhere else to stay next time and come here for a drink.
Woau views over the minho river, food is a bit pricy ;the pillows are on the heavy and high side with no alternative. The tendin is very good. We are on our way to Spain and it is a good stop before proceeding. The sourrounding town is medieval like bella's in beauty and the beast. Breakfast is included and with ample of choices.
Another lovely stay in a Pousada, beautiful setting, views. Staff first class from reception to restaurant to housekeeping. We stayed in 106 very comfortable and cosy room with gorgeous views, can't wait to go back. Only small negative the restaurant was a bit cold on arrival but staff put heating on and it quickly warmed up, also they had an adjacent side sitting area with a lovely log fire. Well done to all the staff for making this a memorable nights holiday for my family.
The lobby of the posada seems to be popular for those staying in the hotel and those visiting the medieval town of Valenca. Step out onto the verandas and be dazzled by the wonderful views. We saw a lone horse in the grassy moat, as well. Beautiful rooms, and a wonderful location.
We stayed here for 1 night at the end if August. With a complimentary welcome drink in hand we upgraded to a room with a private balcony and a fabulous view over the river. The room itself was stunning, with good storage and a luxurious bathroom. We had dinner in the Pousada which was really tasty and beautifully served, though not as upmarket as other pousadas we have stayed in. There was very little open in the walled town at night, so we were very glad we chose to do this. The buffet breakfast was beautiful, with lots of choice. The staff were extremely helpful and welcoming and I would love to stay here for longer next time.
This is a lovely property within the fortress walls. I had room 109 on the second level overlooking the Socorro Bastion, the river and the town of Tui, across the river in Spain. There is no lift, but the staff helps with luggage. It has a balcony with two chairs and a table. Their dinner was excellent and I especially enjoyed the dessert buffet. Breakfast is very nice and their coffee machine makes excellent cappuchino. Reception staff is very friendly and helpful. Wi-fi is excellent and stable. As for shopping within the fortress walls, it is linens, linens, linens, with a few jewelry stores. The clothing stores are so-so. I did purchase a suitcase at one store and was able to “discuss” the price a bit since I was paying cash. I would stay at this hotel again.
Drink a coffe at the Inn 's garden of Valenca and dazzled with the best views Valenca , a closely guarded secret at the Doors of Gabiarra . The century-old bridge, Eifiel style , the Cathedral of Tuy and Rio .
Pousada hotels are incredible! Our goal is to stay in all of the hotels they offer. We often travel from Portugal to Spain and this hotel was geographically perfect as it lies on the the border. Room was a 10. Food was a 10. The view was a 10.
