I really wanted to like this place. First impressions were good: great location on the one main road in town, nice views of the hills, clean and comfortable looking room. But unfortunately the rest of the experience was wanting. The bed was comfortable. The TV was small but had broad coverage. There was a fridge and microwave in the room, which was handy. Now for the negatives: The bathroom was tiny but clean and adequate for a place like this. I thought the showerhead could have been better, but was perfectly happy starting my shower. Until all of a sudden the cold water flow stopped, and I was nearly scalded by the hot water. (A bit tricky to deal with when you're halfway through soaping yourself.) Not good at all. The lighting was very dim, really inadequate. The bed didn't have enough blankets. That mattered, because ... The window heating unit didn't work -- it made a lot of noise, but didn't generate any heat, which is unfortunate for cold desert nights. So overall, I really can't recommend this inn.
Three of us were traveling together en route to California, birding along the way. We researched ahead and found that Desert View Inn had a room with three beds--two doubles and a twin. Perfect for our needs, and the price was the best we'd seen. We were greeted by Hans and the dog (the latter wasn't really interested in our presence). Hans brought us coffee makings for the room. It was really cold that night, but the room heater worked well and we were soon comfortable. Everything worked. This stay was so pleasant that I booked a single on my way back east in early March, As I left, I birded the parking lot--a pleasant way to start the day.
Pulled off the highway and got a deal on Hotels Tonight. The Desert View is about a mile off the interstate as you enter what appears to be a town. What appeared to be quaint in the dark turned out to be smoky and run down. I did have a chance to speak with the very nice new owner who plans to do a remodel in the future.
My wife and I have stayed in this hotel a few times and it's always charming, quiet, and cost effective! Very modern amenities. Located near entertainment, bar next door and bowling alley and winery a block east!
We like old style motels where we can park right outside the door as opposed to the newer box hotels. This was a fine little place and the staff was friendly and took care of us. Close to restaurants and services. We love Truth or Consequences and will be back.

I have stayed here several times and will continue to. Hans, his staff and dog are wonderful hosts. The rooms are spotless. The price is right. It is within walking distance to eating establishments or to have a cold one. Enjoy.
We Came to Elephant Butte for the first time to do night fishing, stayed here and do not regret it. The owner was delightful to interact with. He was super helpful with giving history and info about things to do in TorC and the Butte. The room was clean, and was an awesome deal, couldn’t beat the price $52!! It’s only 10 min from the Dam Marina in Elephant Butte, we will make this our place to stay every time we come back for fishing or just to hit up the Springs. Don’t waste your money on staying at a chain hotel, choose local and choose a kind friendly establishment - Go to Desert View Inn!
On my trip to New Mexico I tried to stay in locally-owned motels rather than chain hotels. I like the idea of staying in older places. This was probably my least favorite of the bunch. The manager when I checked in was personable enough, even if the open room behind him looked like a workshop full of machine parts and such. One of the ceiling fan lighting fixtures in the room was just an exposed light bulb without a globe covering it. The bed coverings looked rather old, but were clean. The bathroom was clean and modern. The most positive thing about the place was the price, but the room reflected the low price in my opinion. Stay here if you need one of the cheapest option in town. Otherwise maybe look elsewhere.
It’s easy to bypass this little inn for some of the bigger names in TorC. But that would be a big mistake. Not only does the Desert View Inn have ridiculously good prices, it also has the nicest proprietor in town - Hans! Hans is also president of the Chamber of Commerce and he knows customer service! He is dedicated to making his guests comfortable and happy - even down to bringing around coffee in the morning. The rooms are simple but extremely comfortable. Amenities include free WiFi, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, flat screen TV with satellite, and bath products. There is also a charming outdoor seating area with a large grill for guest use as well as chairs and tables outside of the rooms. The real fun, however, is Penny! Penny is Hans’ adorable gentle giant of a dog, who will lovingly greet you at check-in and around the grounds!
