I have stayed here several times and will continue to. Hans, his staff and dog are wonderful hosts. The rooms are spotless. The price is right. It is within walking distance to eating establishments or to have a cold one. Enjoy.
We Came to Elephant Butte for the first time to do night fishing, stayed here and do not regret it. The owner was delightful to interact with. He was super helpful with giving history and info about things to do in TorC and the Butte. The room was clean, and was an awesome deal, couldn’t beat the price $52!! It’s only 10 min from the Dam Marina in Elephant Butte, we will make this our place to stay every time we come back for fishing or just to hit up the Springs. Don’t waste your money on staying at a chain hotel, choose local and choose a kind friendly establishment - Go to Desert View Inn!
On my trip to New Mexico I tried to stay in locally-owned motels rather than chain hotels. I like the idea of staying in older places. This was probably my least favorite of the bunch. The manager when I checked in was personable enough, even if the open room behind him looked like a workshop full of machine parts and such. One of the ceiling fan lighting fixtures in the room was just an exposed light bulb without a globe covering it. The bed coverings looked rather old, but were clean. The bathroom was clean and modern. The most positive thing about the place was the price, but the room reflected the low price in my opinion. Stay here if you need one of the cheapest option in town. Otherwise maybe look elsewhere.
It’s easy to bypass this little inn for some of the bigger names in TorC. But that would be a big mistake. Not only does the Desert View Inn have ridiculously good prices, it also has the nicest proprietor in town - Hans! Hans is also president of the Chamber of Commerce and he knows customer service! He is dedicated to making his guests comfortable and happy - even down to bringing around coffee in the morning. The rooms are simple but extremely comfortable. Amenities include free WiFi, coffee maker, fridge, microwave, flat screen TV with satellite, and bath products. There is also a charming outdoor seating area with a large grill for guest use as well as chairs and tables outside of the rooms. The real fun, however, is Penny! Penny is Hans’ adorable gentle giant of a dog, who will lovingly greet you at check-in and around the grounds!
Hans and his staff couldn't be more accommodating. The room was clean, the personal service was excellent, and the Desert View is a great value. I've been staying here for more than 30 years and will continue to stay here. Thanks again Hans for a great stay!
This place is an old building that's been moderately updated but retains its old-fashioned charm and design. It's very clean, the price is totally right, and the proprietor will personally bring you a little bag of fine, fresh-ground GOOD coffee to make, and a real ceramic cup to drink it in - no cheesy styrofoam cup or those dreadful, stale, weak, pre-measured hotel coffee packets, thank goodness. It's easy to find, sunny in the morning, minutes off the highway, and minutes away from anything you want to see or do in Truth or Consequences. The room had one big bed, a rather hard banquette/sitting couch, microwave and small fridge. Fine for one person, might be a little cozy for two, especially in the small bathroom. Altogether serviceable and very nice little place. There's wifi, but no gym or breakfast, or anything like that. Truly old-fashioned, in a good way. Bonus is that there's a big, old friendly dog named Penny waiting for you in the lobby when you check in or out. My only concern was that the office is not open early in the morning. I had to stop in there at 7:30 to talk to the proprietor but the door was locked, and when I tried to call and leave a message, the voicemail box was full. Everything worked out fine, but it gave me some concern because the matter was important and I knew I'd be out of touch all day. I would easily stay at this motel again.
This is such a nice small motel. The rooms were small and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. The best part the gentleman that runs the motel brings you a huge real cup (not Styrofoam) and ground coffee for morning. He gave good recommendations as where to eat that didn't break my budget. I highly recommend.
We loved this place. T or C has so many options if you want that mid century kitsch, but we happened upon the Desert View Inn because of its cute sign. Firstly, the owner is incredibly friendly and will go out of his way to be a helpful host. His dog is adorable as well. The room was so cozy with the fireplace heater. Water pressure in the shower was a dream. We also had the best sleep of our roadtrip here. The location is close to a pretty cool bar, and not far from downtown. We would definitely stay here again.
The rooms were clean, we enjoyed meeting the owner, and he had hot springs coupons in the office. There are chickens and roosters who sound the alarm at the far end of the property, so you might want earplugs.
Stayed here for a night as a base to visit the Spaceport. The owner, Hans, actually lived in my home town in Lancashire, UK for a time... such a small world! Hans is the chairman of the local chamber of commerce and was very helpful in trying to get in touch with Spaceport (the Spaceport themselves were really unhelpful). He chatted for an hour when I checked in and was very enthusiastic about TorC too. I wish I'd stayed longer than just 1 night. Wifi was reliable. The room wasn't the largest I've had in USA but it was functional and fresh coffee was left in a bag. Breakfast wasn't included but for the price paid this was fine and there were plenty of options close by. The only frustrating thing was that I had a document to print next morning but reception was all locked up and no-one was staffing it.
