This is my second stay and it was even better than two years ago. I stayed for December and returned for four days in January after touring for two weeks. The food is great, as usual and the chef is happy to accomodate any request. My masseur, Kavida was fanatastic again. All my aches and pains were pounded, scrubbed and massaged away. I saw a man who had had a stroke come back from three persons help him move to being able to move on his own. Treatments really do work! The hotel has a lovely pool enclosed in a quite courtyard for simple relaxation. The beach is ten mins walk or by taxi to Samundra, yes, yes with no hassle sunbathing and great food. Will I go back ABSOLUTELY!!
I had the pleasure to stay at the Ideal Ayurvedic Resort during the last month of August and I really loved it. I also changed my flight departure date in order to extended my stay here. The staff was wonderful: Sunu, his father, chef Binu, Shamir the manager, my therapist Cavita, Sibi the doctor, Jinu the driver, Vishnu the yoga teacher, and really.. everybody working here touched my heart! Unfortunately I cannot remember all the names. At the Ideal Ayurvedic Resort you feel like being home, it's a big international family also thanks to the wonderful guests who find in this Resort the place to spend their holidays and ayurvedic retreats. I did a full medical check up, made daily treatments and massages, took daily yoga lessons and also made a lot of trips in the surroundings which were perfectly organized by the staff. My room was spectacular, very clean and amusing. The pool is beautiful. The restaurant was great! I enjoyed the food a lot! I will definitely come back in December.
We were looking for a holiday in Kerala coupled with Aurveda treatment & were lucky to choose this one - its a nice cozy family run resort located right on Chowara beach - 20km south of Trivandrum, offers genuine Ayurveda treatment at affordable price, personalised care & excellent food - no frills but cooked with care & warmth..had a great holiday for 8 days. It has a nice swimming pool -it was under renovation, would have enhanced our expirience..
Well run and presented hotel at Chowara, several kilometres from Kovalam. While a key focus of "New Ideal" is it's Ayurvedic treatments it is also a good accomodation option for people like me who are just looking for a good, reasonably priced place close to a nice stretch of beach. I found the Manager, Shamer, to be excellent. He takes a very keen interest in his guests comfort and requirements and this attitude then tends to flow down to other staff members at the resort. Top marks for service throughout my 11 day stay. In some regards I found they went "over and above." Breakfast, which is included, also gets top marks. You could have as much as you liked and I found the quality good. Food quality overall is good although, on some occasions, they did not have my preferred dish or beverage. Free Wifi available throughout the resort with good connectivity. There is a lovely stretch of beach about 10 minutes walk from the resort. Very clean in the "tourist section" (Northern end) but somewhat grubby at the fishing village Southern end. Easy enough to avoid this by keeping to the Northern end. Chowara is quieter than Kovalam. Far fewer restuarant options outside the resort but there are plenty of craft, clothing etc shops and money changers lining the walk to the beach. All in all I had a very enjoyable stay and would return if I were either looking for Ayurvedic treatment or, more likely, just a chilled week at the beach.
My husband and I visited this Ayurvedic resort, because it had been highly recommended by a Canadian friend who benefiited greatly from her treatment. The whole atmosphere is one of peace and calm, set in the tall swaying palm trees with the most beautiful, quiet beach, just 10 minutes away. There were many European guests staying here, who all looked relaxed after their treatments. My husband had a detailed consultation with the doctor, who was very generous with his time and advice. Shamer, the manager, could not have been more polite and helpful. We each had almost 3 hours of the most amazing treatments and a wonderful massage with specific herbal oils to meet our individual needs. We are already planning our return visit for a full week's stay!
we have been staying for 2 weeks in this very basic but complete resort. ratio between quality and price perfect for european standard. quality of treatment outstanding. quality for food perfect for the detoxing. athmosphere friendly and cosy. all keen to assist in any desire (yoga/music) and always smiling. doctor professional and empathic. swimming pool clean and attactive. everythig clean and well kept. Having said this, we have felt great harmony and lived a really fantastic holiday. we miss all the team, Sunu, Vineesh, Kavita, Shani and all the others. the region is worth to visit not only for the ayurveda treatments. we hope to come back soon.
Rude staff welcomed us to the dreadful "New Ideal", didn't offer us anything, even a smile after our long 4hr journey and was quickly ushered into our room, which smelt of damp/wee... To avoid the smell we went down to the pool which was also filthy and hadn't been cleaned. The place was like a ghost town with me only seeing two other guests our whole stay. No surprise the hotel is grubby, unfriendly and spoilt what could have been a great time in Kovalam. To top it all off the nearest beach is a ten minute walk away and it's a deserted wasteland...Kovalam is 9km away, please safe yourself the hassle and go elsewhere!
If I had written this review when I 1st arrived at the new ideal hotel, it wouldn't have gotten any stars. I was gutted!!! So much so, in fact I didn't unpack my suitcase for 2 days! But we had travelled a long way, and I was very tired, so not in the best frame of mind. Now 2 weeks later and I don't want to leave. I have to say this is the most basic hotel I have ever stayed in, but the room is clean, the bed is comfy, the linen is clean, it has a shower, toilet and sink, and FREE wifi. And it is very, very cheap. So what more do you need. Sunu, hotel manager is very helpful, getting you the best prices for taxis, goods ect... and so laid back he is lovely. The kitchen boys are funny, always joking and smiling, and no, you don't always get what you think you ordered, but whatever I have eaten has always been delicious. And no one had any stomach problems. Nicholas keeps the pool clean and the gardens tidy. Kavita is a miracle worker for the massages. I was able to bend my bad knee after 1 session, kneel on it after 2. Kavita knew where all my pains were without me even saying. I would highly recommend the treatments here. There is even a Dr on site which surprises me, as I have only ever had that in the most expensive of hotels. This hotel is set among coconut trees, with chickens and cows roaming about outside the gate. Washing hanging among the trees and local kids waving at you as you walk by. The kids always want to practice their English (which they are very good at) and they loved the sweets, chocolate, pens and pencils that we gave them from home (U.K) It is a nice walk to the beach down quite a steep hill (and up again) but for the less able bodied you can get a tut tut for a few rupees. My husband went out with the fishermen and helped pull the nets in (you have to get up early for this) and we were invited to so many local homes we would need to stay here forever to accept all the invitations we received. All in all a beautiful part of India to visit and genuinely friendly people. I would definatley stay here again if we returned to Kerala .
I was at the New Ideal in early and late. There was a change of management in between, so I’ll just be reviewing the changes that were introduced within that context. Bookings through online platforms are still much cheaper than through the hotel website. However, you can only book a room through a platform and will have to contact the hotel and ask the manager to send you an offer for a full-package, if you are interested in one. Despite this, when you check in you will likely be told that you should consult the physician before the arranged fee can be confirmed, as you might need some “special treatment” not covered by the your all-inclusive package. This is when negotiations start, and how you conduct them will largely determine how much you pay. Therefore, each person is paying a completely different fee for similar packages. And no matter how you're online booking looks like, you will get a non-AC room. Rooms are still very clean and spacious, though. If you want to take a cab or make a trip to the backwaters, the manager will arrange it for you. The price he offers will probably seem reasonable to you, but is much higher than the one you would get if you are reasonably good at bargaining. Cheaper options such as public buses will never be presented to you, but you can ask around and try them out. They are really not that bad. The ayurvedic treatments are still great, since the therapists are the same. The doctor changed, and I must say that I had better results with the former physician. The kitchen is still very disorganized, but slightly more efficient. The reason for this is that a new chef took over, and the downside to it is that the food now is pretty bland. The rooms are still badly isolated, since the new manager did not invest in infrastructure at all. This was especially problematic since a building is being built right next door, and construction work starts pretty early in the morning. The staff is extremely friendly but tends to get a bit too involved. If you're traveling as a couple, you might even feel a bit judged on occasion.
We had a great time relaxing at this hotel. It is a very nice and peaceful place, the rooms were clean and the Wifi worked well. The hotel manager is very helpful and friendly. The breakfast included in the price was very good, we could choose between oriental or indian breakfast and most times had the indian breakfast, which was very good even for people who normally only eat oriental breakfast. Personal at the restaurant was also very friendly, most times the manager itself because of the low season. All other food we had there was also very tasteful. One time we went to the Lighthouse beach to eat, all other meals we had there because food was simply fantastic.
