Old Town Maestros3.0 out of 5.0

The pretty pictures hide an unfortunate truth: the hotel only occupies part of this well-reconstructed building. On the ground floor is an all-night music bar ("Labor" - look it up!) so the thump of music comes through the fabric of the building and the triple-glazed windows and standard-issue earplugs don't block out the shouting and singing of the rowdies in the bar and the street below. Pity, because without this handicap, this would be rather a good place to stay.
This small hotel is located in the old town. If you reach the hotel by taxi, you have to get down at the nearby square and walk with your bags to the hotel through cobbled street for about 75 yards. There is a small lift to take you to the reception, the lady there was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms and the beds were quite comfortable with no view at all. Breakfast was just a routine affair with toast, jam , honey etc, cereals and coffee/tea. Being in the centre of the old town, there are many places you can see by walking, like the freedom square, the churches and the tourist information office. There are a few restaurants and bars nearby. If you are in Tallinn for a day or two, sightseeing and need a room only to sleep at night, this is a reasonable choice- a budget hotel.
Only stayed here for a few hours after we were delayed arriving in Estonia. Excellent central location in the old town. Taxi was not able to get us downstairs so had to walk a little bit to get there. Hotel staff is fine. We didn't have much interaction other than check in as we were not there that long - only one night. Breakfast is included but as we left very early didn't get to have it. Room was big and bathroom was huge. Really good size. Recommended for a stay.
This hotel is a good value is location is most important. Normal (basic) services and features. WiFi worked ok, room was clean and bathroom worked well. Loads of shops and restaurants just out the door. Note that on the weekends lots of tourists come across from Finland and the bars adjacent to this hotel get busy late at night. However, I had no problem with noise. Would stay here again when in Tallinn's Old Town.
Pros - Location is great, almost in the heart of old town and also close to other interesting areas of Tallinn. - Room is large, larger than an average hotel room in Tallinn. - There's no noise despite many bars nearby. - Beds are comfy. - Staff is very helpful and friendly. - The price-quality ratio is unbeatable in the centre of Tallinn if you don't mind average breakfast (although porridge is ok). Cons - Breakfast is not the best.
One reception lady has quite an abrupt personality which seems unfriendly. The others were lovely and friendly. The hotel has a central location in the heart of the old town near the Town Square. There is a tourist office close by and everywhere is walkable. Bring flat sturdy shoes because the streets in the Old Town are mostly cobbled. There is an excellent huge supermarket down Viru street nearby - only a few minutes walk – and sells everything including alcohol. There is also a good supermarket at the train station. Our room was big and very clean. However ‘toiletries’ means soap dispenser in the shower and at the sink; that’s it. I regretted not having body lotion. Tissues and shower caps are supplied. We left our windows open the first night and were frequently woken up by the yahoos of those partying on the streets. From then on we shut them and endured the stuffy room (no air conditioning) and we slept wonderfully. Breakfast is basic though adequate – virtually the same things every day. I liked the porridge, yoghurt, fruit squares, rye bread, selection of teas and fresh oranges and apples. The bus from the airport is easy and costs 2 euros by cash. Every bus journey seems to cost 2 euros by cash. You can buy a 1-day, 3-day or 5-day travel pass and you can buy it when you land at the airport at a kiosk and then it will cover your first journey into town. There is a 2 euro deposit charge for the plastic card which is returnable when you leave for instance at the airport or bus station. For example, the 24-hour pass is 5 euros and when you return the card you get a refund of 2 euros; therefore the cost is really 3 euros. You can top up the card at kiosks. You need to be making more than one journey in the 24 hours for it to be worthwhile. With a card you can then get on a bus by the side entrance and flash your card before the ticket machine there. For the Old Town when you get off the bus stop at Viru Hotel the walk to the Old Town Maestro Hotel is about 5 or 6 minutes which is fairly easy with only cabin luggage. We got a taxi one way from the airport and it was only 10 euros. We confirmed the price with the driver before we travelled. It shouldn’t cost any more than that and locals I believe pay less than that; after all it is only a few miles. We would definitely return to Old Town Maestro Hotel and its location is great.
No baggage room. Staff was sharp, abrasive, and not friendly when interacting with them. When arriving early, I felt scolded when the staff told me there was no rooms. Later interacting with staff was the same way. Awesome location in the heart of the old town. Everything is walkable. Hotel amenities were great, room was big, had a lift.
Stayed here on a short break to Tallinn. Central location is fabulous however we nearly walked straight past it. Room is large and spacious - bathroom is a little dangerous, no shower curtain or handle in the bath, bath and floor gets slippy when you are showering and you have to be careful not to fall. Breakfast is basic but adequate - id stay here again
This Hotell was very nice. Just in the midle of the downtown. The elevator is tiny in case you want to know it :) Its very clean, its not loudy so you can sleep in peace. The breakfast buffet was delicious and the service was excellent!
The hotel was perfect, warm, friendly, extremely helpful staff, very comfortable. We had a large room on the fifth floor at the back. Heated bathroom floor, big bed and very clean. What else could you wish for. The breakfast was certainly varied enough for anyone, hot and cold plenty of tea and coffee. Altogether a very pleasant experience. Just around from the Town square with its many restaurants offering very tasty dishes. The entire city with its city walls, hidden gardens and alleyways, churches, museums tea shops, amazing cakes! You need sturdy shoes because most of the walking areas and roads are cobbled, large cobbles. Bus from the airport is easy but we got a taxi for six on our return and it was only 15euros. Took the tram to Kadriog Park, will be beautiful in the summer. Only two euros each, everywhere seems to be two euros. Altogether a very pleasant break celebrating our 70ths
