Centerally located. Reasonable prices. Good caring staff. Big rooms and all amenities. Near by seven eleven. Free coffee all the day. Poor break fast. Poor room service. They packed out bags and changed our room without permission. But it is ok.
room was clean, staff were great. a bit far from city centre but taxis were easy to get. plenty of shops handy, just a walk over adjacent bridge.i would definately stay here again if i get back to tainan.
We stayed one night here, early in May 2014. The room was unremarkable, as was the establishment in general. Suddenly, the place was awash with coachloads of VERY NOISY Mainland Chinese. Not a nice experience. Frankly, the promotion "Early Booking Saver Rate including 12% discount" GBP 40.86 (USD 67.04) was a bit high for the quality. There is a free shuttle bus at 7.30 p.m. and at 8.30 p.m. to the night market. The staff were helpful. I think there must be better places to stay in Tainan.
Simple hotel for very reasonable price and helpful stuff. also offer free bicycle for rent if you are on holiday. over night stay can be ok but do not expect for too much as rooms are very basic. it also has parking lot in case you need it.
This is the first time that I feel like the reviews on tripadvisor.ca didn't accurately reflect the quality of the facilities and service of a hotel. The Hwa Du Hotel is an old hotel with very dated decor and facilities. I'm going to guess that the hotel was built in the '60s and last renovated in the '70s. I will admit that the hotel is kept very clean, but it has a sad neglected feeling to it. The front desk staff were helpful when we asked for help, yes, but they didn't go out of their way to welcome us or suggest things to do in Tainan. The four or five nearby chain restaurants were identified (in English) on a small piece of paper, which was handed to us by staff without explanation upon check-in. Because of the lack of quality local restaurants, we took a cab into town for dinner every night which added ~NT$400 (return) to our daily costs. The hotel does offer a shuttle service to the Flower Night Market (Thursday, Saturday, Sunday only) that runs from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. Unfortunately the night market is completely jammed by 7:30pm and unless you're used to it, it can be overwhelming. I recommend catching a cab to the night market by 6:00pm so you can find a place to sit when you eat, or so you can walk and eat with a bit of elbow room. The breakfast buffet is only available Saturday and Sunday mornings. It provides a decent range of breakfast options. Cereal, yoghurt, and fruit would have been a good addition. The Hwa Du Hotel seems to cater more to tours than to individual travelers. I recommend staying in a more modern hotel closer to the city center if you want more exposure to Tainan's night life and quality local eats. One more note: If you order an extra bed, be prepared for a rough night's sleep. The folding bed that I slept on was just barely as wide as my shoulders, had no mattress, had an iron bar that loved to dig into the middle of my back.
Hwa Du Hotel is a bit our od the way fromthe old city center (just 10 minutes or 125 Taiwan Dollars by taxi) but boy, the super friendly stuff make up for that! the welcome people (who go by e name od Caesar and Casanova - no kidding) really go out of their way to welcome guests (with a big colourful sign in the lobby welcoming the parties by name) and explain everything in perfect English. the best: there are bicycles in the lobby you can use for free!
The Staff at this hotel excelled with great advice tips from sight seeing to changing money & where to eat& how to get around. Rooms were Clean Big & roomy with good Bathrooms. Good Internet as well. Close to Night markets with Free shuttle. Was a good Hotel.
The high-point of the hotel is the service rendered by the front office and other staff to make your stay pleasant. They go out of their way to help you. Some of them possess manageable knowledge of English. The photos of all the staff are displayed in the lift and those who can communicate in English are specially identified. The rooms are comfortable with all the usual amenities including free speedy wi-fi connection. I have no complaints about the room size, decor, facilities and provisions. In fact you do not get anything less than what you would in a more expensive hotel. This hotel provides you complimentary tea/ coffee and cookies 24 hours of the day in the lounge. There is a one-way free shuttle to the nearby Flower Night Market. You can walk back to the hotel after your visit, which is easy to navigate. Location wise I did not find any advantages. You have to depend upon taxi or public transport wherever you have to go. If you use public transport the best way is to catch buses that connect to one of the tourist shuttles 88 or 99 e.g. stop like Chikhan Towers from where you may move to all tourist places. Not a big deal of course. A trip to HSR Tainan will set you off by @ NT 450. Breakfast buffet is OK with usual fare.
Brain and Julia are tow of best hotel staff you will find anywhere. Extremely helpful and friendly. My best stay in Tainan to date. 24 hour access to computer, laundry.. Cheap bicycle rental. And located minutes form Anping and other historic sites of Tainan makes Hwa Du an excellent choice for those on a budget. Only problem... the noisy guest from the east...
For the price you pay, it is consider a good option. The hotel is located at Tainan City center and the room is spacious and clean eventhough the design might be a bit out dated. The hotel also provide free shutter to the famous Tainan Flower Night market and after that you can just walk back to the hotel which is about 15 minutes walk. You will not get lost and you can walk along the street of the city center on the way back to the hotel. Breakfast is provided as well and there are quite a lot of choices and it's delicious. Recommended for budget traveller.
