Rydges Sydney Central

4.5 out of 5.0

The hotel staff is very friendly and the best asset. Good location. Hotel is clean. The Hotel overall was disappointing with an outdated and needs a major face lift. The Hotel food is bad. The Shower was horrible - water would be all over the floor after each shower and the water pressure was bad. The balcony room I paid for was not worth it. View of nothing...very disappointing...waste of money! I would not stay here again.

Welcoming staff, nice room, good gym, location is OK but could have probably been a little more Central.. calls itself Sydney Central but it's not next to Central station or in the center of CBD..

A $59 Motel 6 room for $250...no chairs,small,moldy,stinks...almost laughable

Slightly off the beaten path, Surry Hills is a great place to be. Cool streets, great restaurants, and pretty good vintage shops. Extremely accessible as it's a stone's throw from Central station. Rooms were nice, spacious and I haven;t gotten better for a 4 star place in Australia.

Found the hotel after some unfortunate travel mishaps. Wound up staying there two different nights and I found the hotel to be very accommodating. Overall the hotel was very quiet and extremely clean. There is a nice sundeck for every guest of the hotel to use with a decent view and plenty of tables. I did not use the pool as it was indoor only and looked to be more for fitness than recreation. Highly recommend.

Though the staff were very nice, this hotel should, perhaps, not be open to guests right now, as it needs a massive overhaul. The walls need several coats of paint, the elevators have so many handprints it looks like someone was trying to escape from them, and the bathrooms have lots of mildew damage. If you have severe allergies to mold or mildew, in particular, then you should not stay here, as you'll have a pretty bad reaction. Each floor has a strong mold/mildew stench, and the rooms, in particular, have this aroma. The carpet in our living room was mysteriously wet one evening, and when I brought it up to the front desk, they were only surprised to find that there was water in that location, versus the hallways, where you can see numerous stains in the carpet from some kind of leak.

Pros: - Nice, modern, clean rooms - Good service, I had a bathroom light switch go bad in my room, so they gave me a better room (free upgrade) for the remainder of my stay. Unfortunately, the new room didn't have internet working in it :( They did give me vouchers for wireless internet access but it was only available from their lobby :( Cons: - Charged for local calls - that's just lame. - Not enough ramps. From the entrance to the lobby, from the lobby to the lift - all stairs/steps. Not easy with heavy luggage and I imagine they don't get many folks in wheelchairs either.

We only spent 1 night here but wished we'd stayed longer. Newly renovated, very clean, very safe hotel. The concierge was very helpful when we checked in and arranged out airport transportation quickly and efficiently for the next morning. Close to George St., Darling Harbor and the train station. It's also close to the free downtown shuttle, too, but check the schedule because they stop early. Very "American" hotel with our expected amenities. Would be a great place to acclimate to the big time change.

The location was great, close to the train station and to public buses. The concierge, [...], was amazing and very helpful as were the rest of the staff members. The rooms were nice sized and neatly kept. The pool was satisfactory but the hot tub and sauna were not hot. The hot tub felt like tepid bath water.

We stayed at the Sebel Surrey Hills for one night before flying back to the U.S. It is a perfect location as it is an easy walk (even with suitcases) from the Central Train station. We took the train from the airport one afternoon and back to the airport the next afternoon. The hotel is within walking distance of Darling Harbor, China Town, and Circular Quay. It is around the corner from the 555 bus line which is a free bus that circulates through the central business district including Circular Quay. The service was pleasant, the rooms were spotless and roomy. We did not use the pool or fitness center. I highly recommend this hotel.

Dear Scott, Thank you for sharing your feedback. It is great to hear you enjoyed the service provided by our friendly staff and our central location. Please accept my sincere apologies for the issues you experienced with your room and meals. I have addressed your concerns with my Food and Beverage Manager and Executive Engineer. We are currently undergoing a refurbishment that will include our pool and gym facilities as well as all our guest rooms.
