Check in time was not shown in booking confirmation or on website, we assumed it was therefore flexible. After arriving after a long haul flight at 8am we found that check in time was 2pm. We waited for 2 hours for a room to become available as we were inappropriately dressed for the weather and we were very tired. Staff were seemingly helpful, but not very understanding. The room was very small - no where to open a suitcase. However, all amenities that were needed were given and the room was comfortable for a short stay.
My wife and I have stayed at Hotel Challis twice and couldn't ask for a better place to call our Home Away from Home. The location was our prime reason for originally booking this hotel but we soon realised it had MUCH more to offer than that. Situated smack in the middle of one of Sydney's best eating areas it was a challenge to decide where to eat each day. It also was a great location for my wife's commute into The City for several days of her Teacher's Conference. Public transport was no more than a 5 minute walk away, making it ideal on a daily basis. We will be back and looking forward to that next trip already.
Booked via 3rd party site, realised a day later we had entered wrong date. Went to change but hotel refused as they said booking was non-refundable, we were not seeking a refund just a date change and they had rooms available, so what was the issue?. Still refused but offered to let is change for a $100 fee. WTF! Appalling service and attitude - take care if you book there.
Great location, walking distance to anything you need, friendly and attentive staff. Room was clean, hotel was clean and quiet. Enjoy a cool morning having coffee on the front stoop watching people or hang in the cozy lobby while you wait for your transportation.
I was highly impressed with the staff cleanliness accessibility to transportation.. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone visiting Sydney and would stay there again in a heartbeat.. Thank you to everyone there I loved it
Excellent customer service. Great location. Clean, tidy and quiet. Would definitely recommend. Walking distance to kings cross station and a short stroll to Elizabeth bay. Perfect place to stay for a weekend
We were in Sydney for a wedding and we chose this hotel as it was close to everything. We had a good time in the hotel, the room was nice and clean but she shower was too small as well as the basin. ZM
Good value for money, lovely ambience, friendly helpful reception staff, close to town and a deli with nice food around the corner. So much nicer than the soul-less cheaper mainstream hotels, happy to recommend it.
We got upgraded from a queen to a king rooms are small but big enough for the value great location to good restaurants and walk to sydney opera house Fratelli across the road great for breakfast and Cho cho san a must
We had a wonderful stay here and I wouldn't have changed a thing. We originally booked at 'The maisonette', which is next door to this hotel, but due to urgent maintenance, they upgraded us to 'Hotel Challis'. We were very happy with this as Hotel Challis is a more expensive hotel.The only downside was that the rooms at Hotel Challis were not as unique and quirky as at 'The Maisonette'. An excellent stay overall though.
