Great location, booked this hotel for a family room, photos on website looked good. Hotel was dirty, beds old, pillows hard, very, very noisy. Upon check in no one advised us of road works ( digging up and relaying road surface) immediately outside our bedroom window that commenced at 10 pm and ran all night till 6am. The noise and vibration through the building were so bad it was like a war zone. We asked reception to be moved to the back of the building and was told they were fully booked nothing could be done, would you like ear plugs? We were not given an option prior to check in to source another hotel or advised the works would be carried out at night. Very deceitful of Mantra and Breakfree. We had booked and paid for this hotel at least 6 weeks in advance, we were in Sydney for our children to compete in a sporting event and for my husband to complete some work, none of these activities were done very well due to none of us sleeping. We all left feeling tired, worn out and not wanting to choose Mantra or Breakfree ever again. We feel ripped off and not given an opportunity to enjoy what was supposed to be a great experience in Sydney.

- Bedside lamp didn't work. Needs to change light bulb - Only 3 tissues left in the facial tissue box. Needed replacement - Ventilation system was very loud and made it difficult to sleep Aside from these problems, I still enjoyed my stay and found the staff to be very friendly.

Myself and 2 friends stayed over night as we had a concert to attend at the ICC. The hotel was conveniently located and priced reasonably so we booked last minute. No issues at check in or check out and service was fast. The only issue is mould growth in the room we stayed in and I'm sure it would be in others as with many high rise Sydney building, air flow is limited and windows aren't ever able to be utilised. As we were only there for one night and spent only around 8 or so hours in the room this wasn't a major concern but should definitely be looked into. I wouldn't come for a relaxing weekend away or romantic retreat but would stay again for convenience and distance from main CBD attractions.

Cheap room rate for Sydney, buy if you want to sleep I'd recommend somewhere else. Room was extremely noisy with busy road and no double glazing. Room is also very basic and not the most comfortable! Unless money is tight I'd go elsewhere and spend a little more

I stayed for one night for a conference which was nearby in Clarence Street. I chose this hotel mainly for its location. I stayed on the 5th floor Ian room which had a king size bed and two singles. I paid $178.00. The reception staff were very polite and pleasant and check in and out was painless. The room itself was big for one person, but the fittings were dated and in need of replacing. The mattress like most hotel beds was rock hard so I didn't have a very good sleep. There was a fair bit of noise during the night which sounded like construction or bins being banged around. The bathroom was decent and clean and there were plenty of clean towels, and the water was hot. For the convenience and for only one night this hotel was fine, but if you were hoping for luxury or something memorable then this is not that place.

The BreakFree on Clarence is an OK hotel but is starting to become very aged and in need of refurbishment. The general level of quality is not high. I found that a sheet on the bed was torn and this should have been easy to identify for housekeeping staff. But to their credit reception rectified it promptly. I feel this reflects poor attention to the details of customer service beyond the basic provision of a roof and bed which is accessible and reasonably hygienic. The rooms are very compact meaning you really don't want to spend time there beyond sleeping and washing.

If you're looking for a convenient spot, this is the right place. But if you're fussy with facilities and room quality, this is probably not where you want to stay. I didn't mind the tiny room and lack of space as long as the bathroom was ok.

Stayed at this well located Sydney CBD hotel for two nights on business. After just one night I wanted to breakout and stay somewhere or anywhere else. Small windowless room, worn furniture, cheapest possible fittings and not even a hand towel. Don't think budget - think cheap and nasty.

We had a good break away the hotel was handy to everything and staff were helpful and prompt. Cleaning standard was poor thick dust down side of fridge cabinet and edges of room . The headboards are flaking esp in master room and was in our hair but all cosmetic things which just need attentiin . Overall good place and would stay again.

Staff were polite & helpful but the room, a Family Suite ($245) was not good. The carpet was stained, the bathroom was mouldy and there were cockroaches in it. The sheet on the king bed had holes in it & the bedheads on the single beds were peeling (Faux leather).
