Stayed in this hotel for 3 days with family. Good points:- Great location, all Sydney attractions are within walking distance. Darling harbour is only 5 minutes away which is a great place to wind down and relax in the evening. The staff at reception was very friendly and helpful. Bad points:- The Queen room was smaller than expected. Bedsheets were not very clean. There was too much noise from the road even at night. Cleaning staff did not clean the room properly.

The room was so small I couldn't even fit my suitcase past the bed. The carpet was stained, the walls marked, wifi signal was so weak that I couldn't use it, my double bed filled the entire room and the "view" was a dirty alleyway. The room was quite expensive so at first I thought there must have been a mistake. Location was great but sadly that's about the only positive thing I have to say about my experience.

Lot of room for improvement at this property. Wi-fi facilities must be improved. Despite being a member of Mantra, I did not have wi-fi access in the last couple of days. Breakfast must be included in the room tariff at any cost. That is a minimum every guest expects.

Had the good fortune of visiting central Sydney for a couple of days and was looking for a reasonably priced hotel in the city center. I found the BreakFree on Clarence meet my main objectives for a hotel, reasonable price, good location, close to public transport, clean, quiet and easy access to the airport. My room was on the smaller side but would still suit a couple with their suitcases and cabin luggage (but was bigger than hotel rooms I have used in Paris and London). The room was functional, tidy and clean and the bathroom worked well. If you are a couple, one person could use the hand basin whist the other person showered. The room was also located in the central portion of the building which meant it had no windows, however it did have a skylight. Thankfully the surrounding buildings blocked out the early morning light and I was able to sleep well during the night. However, it would be nice if hotel management fitted a block out blind to block out the sun light especially during Sydney's hot and long summer days. The hotel is a five minute walk to Wynyard Station and Wynyard Park with its associated bus stops, making it ideal for accessing other parts of Sydney. It is also a 10 minute walk to Town Hall station taking in the shops along the way. Given its central location the hotel is easy walking distance to many of Sydney's main tourist attractions (Circular Quay, Harbor Bridge, Opera House, The Rocks, Darling Harbor and the city shopping areas). In line with the hotel's minimalistic approach the hotel lobby is tiny with a concierge desk just as one enters from the doorway and it does not offer breakfast. The staff at the front desk are helpful and have tourist maps and brochures to help guest that are not familiar with Sydney. It is also worthwhile noting that the front door is locked in the late evening and guests have to use their hotel room key to gain access to the hotel.

We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by staff , we were happy with the room and our stay we. the hotel was central. very close to major shops and shopping centres and also to major transports to and from the airpot.

The room I stayed in was very small, so small in fact that it was not much wider than a hallway. The carpets were very badly stained and the fabric on the chair and bed head was worn and peeling off. The room was noisy, there was nowhere to put a suitcase other than on the floor, and the bed was not comfortable at all. The bathroom was so small that I had no room to dry myself unless I open the door - there was not even enough room in the bathroom to put a toiletries bag down anywhere and there was mould in the corners of the shower cubicle. The only redeeming factor was that the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming.

BreakFree on Clarence is conveniently located a short walk from Town Hall station in the Sydney CBD. I usually travel on a budget, but I do think the $150+ fee per night was steep considering what was on offer. The facilities were fine, but the interiors of the rooms are looking quite tired - scuff marks on the walls, paintwork damaged and a lingering cigarette smell. The bathroom appeared to have recently been renovated, which was a pleasant contrast. I hope that Breakfree on Clarence will continue to update the rest of the rooms to the same standard. Housekeeping could be improved - bin was not present in room when I first arrived and some rubbish had been left on the floor from previous occupants. Overall a fair option for a budget stay in Sydney, but I have stayed in properties that offer better value for money and attention to detail.

Room water damaged, carpet rotting from water damage. Room stunk. No iron or ironing board and room was dirty. I checked soon after arriving due to the condition of the room and the general smell of level one.

Poor room service. Dust everywhere. Mouldy shower. Communal kitchen had absolutely nothing but a microwave. Location is the only positive thing about this motel. The room would have to be the smallest I've ever stayed in.

Because this is an old building there is an old lingering smell in the building. Whilst the smell in the reception is more welcoming upon arrival, this nice scent they have downstairs isn't carried out through the higher floors. The rooms are simple and have all that is required to sleep, I was not told of a shared kitchen that i think i saw on my last day - is that for guests to use? (would have saved me buying plastic utensils and plates etc) and opened up my options for dinner had i known there was a microwave. The furniture in the rooms was worn (i.e. peeled off paint from scratches, peeling leather/vinyl, scuff marks on walls etc). Could not get adequate reception on wifi to connect to internet so could not use it. Glass on shower screen is not cleaned by cleaners which is disappointing. Glad i was on my own in the room and not sharing with someone given the glass wall and door for the bathroom with no lock/privacy. The last night AND morning i could hearing water flowing in my ceiling space (maybe from a shower above?) which was loud enough to stop me going to sleep/wake me up (lucky it wasn't the whole time)...
