Choose this hotel after a long search with many sites on internet. Travelocity pop up on my screen with a better deal I didn’t expect, Good deal About the hotel Great breakfast served every morning. A bit expensive but really good, what I didn’t like.? The manager of the “breakfast department” like to be checking the people there, or send messages with the girls working there. Don’t have the guts to talk The people working in the front desk Great people, really helped us with information about the city, even though my room was not ready at the time I arrive ( 10am ) so have to wait till 2pm, but we went to do something and returned before and was ready, grea5 job from these guys Really clean, a/c works good cold, quiet hood but most importantly, it’s really close (in a walking distance) to almost everything Opera house and the harbor about 20 minutes Chinatown (about 15 minutes) Chinese garden of friendship (20 minutes) Downtown about (15 minutes ) The tower about 15 minutes Museum tren station (about 10 minutes) Stop bus just around the corner With that being said. Great location, great people, but the hotel don’t deserve to be called a 3 star ⭐️ hotel, its a normal o en like any hotel on US But for the price.. great everything.
We arrived early and our room was prepared as we had a lunch at "Alive" cafe up the road. Happy friendly staff especially front counter. Room service order for dinner arrived with incorrect drinks and only one set of cutlery and serviette( for 2 people) When asked for more the answer was "most people eat this with their fingers" - a wet Nachos. Cutlery arrived without serviette or apology. Re - drinks "That was what was on the order" Well it wasnt what we ordered. Pool was closed for renos. Shuttle arranged to airport efficiently and nil issues. Bags well attended
We booked the double double room, it was right by the pool which was just what our toddler wanted however... during our stay the pool was closed due to renovation (although no sign of any actual reno, and pool was still filled). Room was basic but comfortable. Slight musty smell yet cleaned well. Great A/C unit in our room. Shower worked, toilet flushed and beds were warm with firm mattress. Amazing customer service for check in and check out is why I gave this place an extra star!! Good option for families not wanting to splash all their holiday cash on a place you only need for sleeping purposes. *we ordered room service from the restaurant - no complaints from the mr (steak meal, tasted good, decent portion) The toddler also enjoyed his treat of chesse pizza, cheese chips + garlic bread.*
The room was on the same floor as the pool. The smell of the chlorine is overpowering, there was no phone reception in the room at all. The shower pressure was a dribble. Then we tried to turn the airconditioner on at 1am to find it did not work. The walls are only gyprock so we heard the people in the room beside us partying all night. We have stayed here before and not had any trouble so maybe make sure you are on a higher floor. Good Luck!
Spent three nights with my daughters for a girls' weekend, in a triple room. The check-in was easy, the staff were lovely and very friendly. Unfortunately we stepped out of the elevator to the smell of cigarette smoke (even though it is a "no smoking" facility). Thankfully we didn't notice it again, so perhaps it was a once off. I was pleasantly surpised by the size of the room, it was definitely spacious enough for the 3 of us. It was very clean, and well appointed. The bathroom is a good size, but as many have said, a bit tired and run-down, and they could do with an exhaust fan. The water pressure in the shower is a bit erratic! Fresh towels were supplied daily. We had thought of using the pool, however it too looked very run-down, and we were dutifully advised by a young guest that it "wasn't heated" (we wondered if the heating had been turned off due to the run of good weather - although it was cold and rainy during our visit!). We found the beds quite hard, although that might suit some people. There was very little outside noise, however we did find the hotel itself very noisy, the open design around the pool creates an echo chamber, and anyone talking in the corridors sounds like a loud speaker! Overall, we got what we paid for, the tariff was half the price of other hotels in the area, there a numerous fantastic cafes and restaurants within walking distance, and it is also an easy walk into the city. I probably wouldn't stay here again, but it served a purpose. If you don't plan on spending much time in your room, and are a fairly heavy sleeper, this is the place for you!
Everybody smiling here, exceptionnal helpful staff at the reception! We stayed 4 nights. Excellent restaurant, with buffet breakfast at the top. Confortable room, quiet Fine place in the wonderful Surry hills... near the center by foot
Stayed for 5 nights. For that length of stay thought I might get an OK room. It was tired and looked straight at a brick wall. I think I was in the Abey Hotel, assume it's the cheaper part of the Cambridge Hotel. Avoid the Abey. Good thing was I worked long days all 5 days, so was ok. The location and the reception staff are amazing. Friendliest hotel staff I have seen for awhile. The room, though a bit worn out but everything worked and bed was comfortable. Next work trip to Sydney, will stay somewhere else.
We had a fantastic stay. The price for a two night stay for a family of four in Surry Hills was amazing. The staff were also fantastic. When returning to the hotel after a big day the front desk staff were quick to notice our children were tired and grumpy and offered a very friendly greeting and a chocolate treat to our girls which boosted their mood immediately. We then returned to a freshly made up room with our children's soft toys all lined up on their bed which thrilled our children no end because it was just like home. We will definitely be back.
Stayed at the Abey for my nieces wedding, what a great hotel, comfortable rooms, great location, able to walk any where as everything is close, staff are unbelievably helpful, this has got to be one of the friendliest hotel I have stayed anywhere in the world and it was a pleasure to see how happy all the staff were. I highly recommend this hotel to anybody and family friendly
Overall very happy with the stay. The hotel was reasonable for the price. The staff were friendly and called room to check we were happy. Staff were happy to organise shuttle to airport. I believe the bathroom could do with a reno - get rid of the shower curtain. It was clean enough though and towels delivered soon after requested. Beds were made and bins emptied daily. Cleaners were in mopping main area every morning. No problems with wifi. Kids loved the pool. It was heated well. Fairly quiet except for other rooms talking and having fun but we were poolside so expected to have noise. Location required a little bit of walking to train station but cafes etc were nearby. It was sooo cold in Sydney but air con heated nicely. Shower did take a very long time to go hot maybe it was because of the cold weather. I would stay again for a convenient budget option.
