Residence Inn Paramaribo

The hotel is nice, spacious and does not have too many rooms. The garden is full of Iguanas and beautiful birds. The receptionists are friendly and speak English. The internet must be the slowest internet in all Paramaribo. I stayed at places where a night costs 1/10th of the price of the Residence Inn, but the internet was faster there. Especially on the weekends, when locals come to spend the day at the pool, it breaks down again and again. I ended up using my mobile data at the hotel, which is not how it is supposed to be, right? If they fixed that and got a bit more fruits at breakfast, it would almost be perfect.

I was visiting Paramaribo for business and stayed for quite a while at the Residence Inn, I knew what to expect before arrival so wasn’t surprised or disappointed. Rooms are basic, bed was comfortable but very thin sheets, bathroom very tight but functional. A/C was excellent, possibly too good given the lack of real bedding. Telephone in room was not functional and there is no smoke detector in the room. Breakfast was always interesting, if the omelette station was manned there was no problem, if not however you’d have to take a chance with what was pre-prepared if you want something hot. Most days it was alright, although not always very “western”- sometimes the thought of eating liver or dark fish first thing in the morning was a little too tough for me. Evening meals were a little over priced in my opinion but there are a high number of restaurants within 15 mins walk that offer significantly better quality and prices. The WiFi signal is strong throughout the hotel and grounds, no issue connecting to it BUT do not expect to use the internet at much during your stay. Internet speed is often poor to terrible- expect to buy a data SIM from Digicell if you intend on doing anything more than opening a webpage. There is a real and significant mosquito problem in the bedrooms at this hotel. I received no less than 50 mosquito bites over the course of my stay and they all happened in the bedroom. I spent around 200SRD on repellents and insect sprays and spent an hour hunting every evening on return from work to try and minimise the bites. I still have scars on my legs and ankles from over a month ago. Pros +Comfortable bed +Reasonable laundry cost +Close to supermarket +Good A/C Cons -WiFi is unacceptable -Mosquitos extremely prevalent in bedrooms -Noisy -Breakfast selection lacking

The residence is quite far out of the centre. However the pool offers enough distraction to not be bothered by that. The rooms are good and the staff is friendly. The is good airco and the bar is located just at the pool

I was lucky to be offered a room in this very nice hotel by SLM after my flight was cancelled. Staff was polite and helpfull and treated me as any other guest. I enjoyed the garden restaurant by the pool where I had diner and breakfast. The building is modern but the garden has some old mango trees which adds to the serene atmosphere. The garden has some unusual pets: you can see iguana's in the trees.

I honestly could not even stay here...arrived at 2am to get in my room and find that there were literally hundreds of mosquitoes swarming around my bed, I went to the bathroom to use the wifi without getting eaten alive, to find out it was completely disconnected. Then, I walked to the phone to call the front desk and complain, and I found a massive roach on my way to the phone, it was still alive. The staff was courteous and genuinely tried to help...but the solutions offered were absurd and ineffective...this is the first time I actually had to leave a hotel, the Couryard up the street is much nicer, and I hear the Eco Resort is pretty nice as well. Plus, I was charged for the night.

This is my second visit to this hotel and I must say the second time's a charm! I requested a room closer to the main building as the last one I had was too far a walk, much to my satisfaction I received a room in the lobby building which was very spacious and comfortable. There was a problem with the cable system for the t.v and when it could not be fixed I was offered another room which I was transferred to; again this was very comfortable! The staff all round are very courteous and ever so willing to assist with everything even just a warm smile! Overall, I would recommend this hotel to everyone whether the visit is for business or pleasure as it truly is a nice place to stay! There is a supermarket next door which is where anything additional that you need is there and transport and proximity to the city is close by.

Clean, spacious and comfortable rooms, nice gardens, pool and bar - restaurant. Rooms have flat screen TV, vast shower room, excellent air conditioning.First floor rooms do not have a lift but always somebody on hand to help with luggage.

The food is great. the people working there are great. it's a very homey not far from the city. it has a nice garden en also a conference room. the people are always at your service. what i love the most was their swimmimg pool. it 's great. we enjoyed our stay @ Residence Inn Paramaribo. they also have a hotel in Nickerie. this is like the second city of Suriname

Although the facade is very impressive, the rooms are somewhat shabby in comparison. Certainly, they are not quite up to the price point..The bathroom in our room was very nice, very light and the shower had excellent pressure. However, there was no netting in front of the bathroom window which resulted in a highway for mosquitos into the room. Which was unfortunate as there was also a HUGE gap between the outside-door and the wall. The room decor was very dated and tired although not all rooms looked the same so perhaps you will be in luck. The breakfast buffet had potential but suffered from lack of stock (no bakkeljauw, no espresso, no fresh fruit) and very, veeeeeeeeeeery grumpy personnel. The pool was very large but there were not nearly enough lounge chairs. The wifi was free but very wonky. For that amount of money, I would not have stayed there myself however, we were with a large group which we could scarcely break up.

Pros The rates are decent. The rooms are clean. Nice facilities and atmosphere Wifi Fridge in rooms Breakfast included and good Cons 10% service charge on EVERYTHING. 5% credit card fees on top. TV reception poor to non existent at times WiFi painfully slow Most hotels in PBM have north American plugs, this one there is sort of No coffee No face cloths or hand towels unless you demand them Breakfast good but never had a good lunch or dinner. Avoid the burgers. They are beyond terrible. Restaurant service is average for Suriname. Overall it is ok. On my budget I couldn't go back to the Marriott but met there for business reasons. This place would be a good family hotel but for professionals, no, avoid unless you too are limited by budget. Don't bother with the restaurant. Expensive and very poor.
