We booked for a short 2 day stay through one of the hotels deals. Room from £10 per night if you buy a meal and bottle of wine. The £10 deal was for the resort but we could upgrade to stay at the Castle, this was £55 per night. We thought this would be the main hotel, unfortunately we were wrong. The main hotel, bar restaurants etc are in the resort, the castle is just a big empty building with function rooms and bedrooms. It is quirky and unusual, however I felt it was a huge wasted opportunity and very poor value for money given it was more expensive than the lodge. We had looked to book on the Saturday and the price was substantial more. At £55 per night I was ok with the standard of room, if I had paid the higher price I would have been seriously disappointed. The welcome could have been better at reception, we arrived early and just fairly curtly got told we could not be checked in yet, this was despite the website asking what time we would be arriving. I have no problem waiting to get into a room as I appreciate that it takes time to get it ready, however we could have been checked in and asked to wait until 3:00 that would have saved time later an been more efficient. When we returned at 3 pm there was a huge queue of people all waiting to book in. One thing I did notice was that there seemed to be a large number of people with complaints. When we did check in we were directed to the castle and told we were in room 1 and told to enter and turn right for the room. We had to stand outside and get buzzed in entered and we’re faced with an empty reception area. We turned right then spent a good 5 minutes wandering round a number of very bare reception rooms and lounge areas looking for the bedrooms. Eventually we shouted out and a nice gentleman directed us through an unmarked door to the stairs to the rooms. Room 1 turned out to be at the very top of the castle up a steep flight of stairs. The room was quirky, clean but a bit tired, the bathroom was large but very cold as the heater did not work. The rail for the shower curtain came apart as soon as we pulled the curtain round and could have landed on someone’s head. The meal at night in the restaurant was very good and the food tasty, the burger was very good but would have benefited from the addition of some salad. Breakfast was good, plentiful food though they ran out of orange juice and were restocking the glasses rather than putting more juice out. You had to ask for tea and coffee, the tea was poured from a jug rather than being given your own tea pot, as a result it was stewed. It would be far better to have a hot water dispenser to allow people to make their own, a selection of different tea types would also be good. Overall it was a nice break away and for the price we paid ok, however not worth the extra to stay in the castle, that part was disappointing as it could have been great.

Stayed here last night with my husband for a nice night together on a last minute spur. We had previously looked at airth castle before and as was available decided to book. We took the dbb deal with bottle of wine on arrival and decided to upgrade our room choice to a castle suite (paid extra for this) to say I’m disappointed would be an understatement! No wine on arrival ... on check in we were told to phone to reserve dinner ... no phone in our room to engage with hotel so had to make the walk back to reception to reserve a time ... room was shabby and cold , every time we turned the radiator up it screamed ... woken during the night constantly with rowdy wedding guests and no way of complaining as we had no phone to call reception , cold water tap nearly not in function , and no drinking water available , double bed was tiny , some of these points were made to reception who basically arranged for our wine to be given with our dinner no other feedback or apology - shouldn’t have bothered was probably the cheapest red you could buy and was vulgar! Horrible stay really. The only plus was the evening meal it was ok. Not worth going back to stay though

Possibly the worst hotel stay of my life. Upon arrival, the reception area was busy with unruly children and mothers shouting at them - not what you want to begin a romantic weekend away! We checked in and given "directions" to our room, which was in the castle. After walking over there, we find a wedding still ongoing which we awkwardly had to walk through to find our room - which was no where to be seen. After asking an inept member of staff who sent us downstairs instead of up, we eventually find our room down a very dated hallway with the wallpaper hanging off. The room was exactly the same, terribly outdated decor, mattress like a brick and suspicious white stains on door and bed frame! Only good point was powerful shower in bathroom. We had a surprisingly nice meal in the grill, which made up for the horrendous walk in the rain from our room to the restaurant. Later that night I ordered some room service. When calling reception I got through to a young sounding boy who clearly had no idea of customer service like the rest of the staff. He told me the menu in my room was no longer available and that I had an "old" one. He then tried to put me through to the restaurant, however the phone rang for two minutes and then hung up. So I called back and got through to the same boy who said all I could get would be ham sandwiches. I said this was fine but after waiting over 30 minutes, they came to the room on 3 large trays and I was charged £25! Ridiculous. I will never stay here again, the place is a nightmare.

This was one of the greatest hotel stays that I have ever had in my entire life, from the quirky furnishings and shabby shique design that matched the hotel perfectly. The housekeeping was simply spot on and I could find absolutely no faults with the cleaning and I am a bit OCD. The meal was one of the tastiest that I have had this year the steak perfectly cooked and elegantly presented. I would have no hesitation to recommend this place.

I booked this as an overnight stay for my husband's birthday and also just for us to get away and unwind for a bit . On arrival we were taken to our room which we were told was a deluxe . No complaints about decor or quality of room although our double bed was 2 single beds put together and there was a big gap between the 2 mattresses which made it uncomfortable. The room was absolutely freezing so we complained to reception and were given a small portable heater as apparently there were no maintenance staff on duty . Went for dinner which was excellent. I took ice cream for my sweet and whilst eating it I found a foreign object in it . It appeared to be a piece of hard plastic or porcelain which had broken from something as it had sharp jagged edges . It was in my mouth when I discovered it and I could easily have swallowed it and I shudder to think of the consequences . We showed it to the girl who was serving our table and she eventually decided she would get the manager . The manager would not come out but told our waitress he was very sorry and that we would not be charged for our extras (which amounted to about £10) . Went back to our room and spent an extremely sleepless night as there was a noise from radiator and also a constant noise from the heated towel rail . My husband slept with pillow over his head to drown out the noise. Breakfast was not good. Food not hot . Bacon hard. Scrambled egg inedible . Not an enjoyable stay . We were more tired when we left. We checked out and were asked if everything had been ok . We said no and the reaction was a blank stare . Will not be back

Spent and overnight with dinner, bed and breakfast last weekend and not very impressed with the place. Room was unmade, dirty towels, beds and breakfast dishes when we arrived. Room was very dated with poor décor, radiator control broken and hard beds. Bathroom was horrible with water pouring from the shower control, ceiling all mould and flaking plus they didn't even have loo roll on the holder. Told at lunch we couldn't get a table for dinner as it was fully booked ha we were offered 9:30pm!! no thanks!! managed to eventually get one at 6:15pm and restaurant was pretty quiet. Tried the spa after lunch but were told they were fully booked for treatments which was rubbish. when we asked for robes and slippers for the spa we were told only day spa guests could use them. Food was ok and drinks expensive. Overall the hotel was poor not what we expected at all :(

On arrival very disappointed in the room. Very poor decor, not what you expect from a well known hotel like this. Didn’t even have a lamp shade on the wall light, see photo below. Wine on arrival in room!!! Yeah if you like warm white wine 👎 Then the dinner was even more of a disappointment. My wife and I had pasta and the lamb, the pasta was extremely bland and the lamb inedible! Won’t be back!

Basically, don’t stay here if you want a nice hotel room. After looking at the pictures online I last minute booked, when I arrived it took me 4 attempts to get in the room with my key card, having to walk back and forth to reception 4 times after a long day working and driving was frustrating. Once I got in the room i was so disappointed, dated and tacky. Nothing like online pictures. Breakfast was ok, I mean they had fresh orange juice and croissants so I was satisfied. Best thing was powerful shower and warm room. Wouldn’t stay again.

Considering what you see on the website the rooms do not live up to expectation. Very old fashioned furniture with hundreds or scratches and scrapes. Bed frame with holes in material. Bathroom tiles filled with mould, cold water for shower. Just in need of some modernisation. Staff were not the friendliest and hotel atmosphere not very good. The only upside was the food cannot complain there was very tasty! Would not return unless all rooms have been refurbished or renovated

My wife and I went here on Sunday 28th Jan for a overnight stay. Reception bar and pool area all very nice until you reach your allocated room. This is the worst room I have ever stay in. Far to many items to mention but not nice. A few pictures tell more of the story. Should mention £12.40 for two gin and tonic 25ml!!!
