Our first visit to this hotel and definitely not our last. From the moment we checked in until we left the staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. We were in a 2day mini break dinner bed and breakfast, the choice and quality of food was excellent and even the bar prices were a pleasant surprise in comparison to other hotels of the same standard. Our room was clean comfortable and spacious, only tiny blip was only shampoo and conditioner in bathroom no shower gel or moisturiser small thing but makes a difference. Oh and a mini fridge would have been good. Overall rested relaxed and thoroughly enjoyed leisure facilities.
Booked an overnight dinner, bed and breakfast deal through Booking. Com on 20 April as a surprise for my wife on our twenty fifth wedding anniversary at a cost of £183. Here is the room spec taken from my confirmation email,Room details Located within the Castle, this spacious room features 1 double or 1 king-size bed, satellite TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Ironing facilities and a trouser press are included, as is an en suite bathroom with luxury toiletries, a hairdryer, bathrobes and slippers. Internet WiFi is available in all areas and is free of charge. When we arrived we checked in at the reception area which was in a separate building and was bright, modern, and manned by friendly receptionists. We made our way over to our room, room 18 in the Castle. The bed took up most of the floor space leaving basically some space to walk round and not much else. There was a bureau and a chest of drawers with the TV on top. Handles were missing from the drawers and they were scratched, dented and badly scraped. To be honest, they were only fit for the bin. On entering the ensuite bathroom the bath panel was detached at the top from the bath. There were no slippers or robes either. The wallpaper was torn and there appeared to be spiders in the corners of the cornicing. This was allegedly an 'Executive Room' which was a cost update. I'm not usually a complaining type but this was really bad. We returned to reception where we queried if this an executive room. We voiced our displeasure and were reallocated to Room 1. This was a much larger room and at first look seemed more in keeping with our expectations. It was a beautiful day with the temperature in the mid twenties. I decided to have a shower before dinner. No hot water, not even warm water, and worse the water which came out the shower was for sometime discoloured, an orange/brown colour. The shower curtain was mildewed at the bottom and the shower rail was broken too. I later discovered that the toilet seat was only held in place at one side. There were no robes or slippers here either. We left the built in wardrobe open as there was a smell and signs of dampness within it and we didn't want our clothes to end up smelling. There was no satellite tv, only Freeview, wifi was not available in the Castle either. On the plus side we each had a £25 dining allowance which covered the cost of our dinner. The food was excellent including the breakfast and we found the staff all pleasant and helpful. The bed was also extremely comfortable. When I went to shave in the morning I discovered that there wasn't even a plug to put in the wash hand basin so I couldn't! Room 1 was on the top floor next to the stairway, unfortunately the fire door at the top of the stairs wasn't fitted with a soft closure mechanism and we were wakened shortly after 6am. by residents leaving and the door constantly banging. There seem to be all sorts of deals on the go for this hotel at present. Unless you're getting a really good deal my advice would be don't.
I was staying over at the hotel for my friend's wedding. As I was part of the bridal party we checked in the night before the wedding for convenience. When the rooms were booked over a year ago it was requested that the bridesmaid's room be next to the bride's room as we knew on the morning of the wedding it would be a bit chaotic with everything that needed to be done however we were put at opposite ends of the hotel and were constantly having to run between rooms. We booked a dinner bed and breakfast rate for the night before the wedding as we had so much to do we thought it would be easier to eat in the hotel... Dinner took 2 hours, it was nice but we were so hungry that we'd have probably ate anything to be honest. The service was actually embarrassing. We had asked a few questions to several different people and on each occasion who seemed uninterested and didn't even bother to return with the answer of the questions. We then had to go to the till and ask for the bill after waiting 20 minutes for this. We were advised that dinner was paid for and all we had to pay for was our drinks, however on check out the bill was charged to my room. I had to ask for a copy of the invoice and explain that it was included in the rate. of course they apologised but by this point I Just wanted out of their. It wasn't all bad though the wedding was faultless but everything else was so bad that I had already made my mind up that I most definitely will not stay here again and would not recommend this.
Myself and 3 friends stayed overnight at Airth Castle Hotel and Spa on Friday 14 July for a friends' wedding. The room we were allocated is in desperate need of an upgrade. We paid £212 to stay in this room and to be honest - it was pretty awful and definitely not good value for money. There were holes in the wall, there was mould on the very wobbly lamp shade, the bathroom door didn't shut, neither did the wardrobe doors. The sink was badly stained and there was black mould round the bath. The chair was badly stained and the carpets were not very clean either. There was also one barman in particular, in the main bar who wasn't very pleasant and really does need to work on his customer care skills! All in all, we were very disappointed as we had been looking forward to staying here.
My sons wedding was held here. For the most part the reception was very professional. However on arrival at the castle the bar ran out of pint glasses and was short staffed. When over a hundred guests are expected the least you can do is be prepared .The staff were either unfamiliar with the electronic tills or the system was poor as it took longer to pay for drinks than normal. Also to many staff sharing one till which held staff up .Excellent meal and master of ceremonies. This venue charges high prices for drinks and is expensive to hire yet has worn and tatty furniture and carpets in poor condition in places. Breakfast was however excellent.
I was worried about the property given the recent reviews, but we had a lovely stay. If you expect a first class luxury hotel you may be disappointed- I compare this more to a New England Inn experience. The building was older with a history, but well maintained with an ambiance of comfort and character.. We were traveling as a family of 4 and booked a family room. It was spacious, comfortable, and clean. The plumbing and heating worked, which is more than I can say for 2 other motel/hotels where we stayed on our holiday. If you looked carefully, you could find a few broken tiles, but it was hard to notice and my impression of the room was far from "run down". We were there on a Saturday and Sunday night. There was an event Saturday night, but we didn't hear any noise or disturbance from it. We ate at the restaurant Sunday night and had a delightful dinner. The food was very well prepared and the service was slightly relaxed, but more than adequate. Staff at the restaurant and hotel were friendly and efficient. My kids enjoyed the pool and the changing room had a suit water extractor which was great as we were traveling. If we holiday in the area again, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here.
At the beginning of June my wife’s father was admitted to hospital and within a week he had passed away this was only a few days before my wife’s birthday for which I had booked a night away at another resort, as you can understand that did not go very well with the bereavement so close I decided to book at Airth Castle to try and make up for the night away. Upon arrival we were allocated room 301 which we got after complaining about the very poor standard of room we had in January, the bedroom was very nice however the bathroom was a let down as it was very dated. We dropped off our bags and headed down to the spa only to find the Jacuzzi was not in operation and had been out of order for a while! Come on spa hotel with no spa ! We had booked dinner for 8:15 we went down and was seated at table 32 the waitress was lovely very attentive and helpful we ordered our food and drinks and waited on our starter, chatting for a bit however as the time passed we were wondering where our food was at the 30 minute point we caught the waitresses eye and she went to check on our starter Mushrooms auld reekie for both of us. She came back apologising that it would be there in a bit which turned out to be another 5 minutes! They arrived and were very nice, as we finished i caught site of a waiter passing with what looked like our main course, he walked passed us looking at the tables as if lost and walked back to the serving area, a waitress came and cleared our table only for the waiter to walk back with my wife’s chicken and haggis risotto and my fillet steak Rossini and a portion of chips. The food looked lovely well presented but when i too a bite of my steak it was stone cold, not cool from the waiter walking around, it had clearly been sitting for a while before being sent out it was as cold as the wine i was drinking! The restaurant manager did discount our meal but we left very disappointed in this supposed 4 star hotels performance. We left and had a seat in the lounge area where we ordered 2 double Drambuie’s which left us incredulous as the were served in 2 half pint glasses! This may seem a trivial thing but still left us walking up to our room shaking our heads. We slept well enough and headed down for breakfast as we have been several times before we were looking for the person allocating the tables, this is usually at the entrance to the restaurant however he was walking around with a small pad jotting down the room numbers which was all well and good but for the people who hadn’t been before they were walking in and taking food from the serving table and walking over and just sitting down. This left us with another 30 minute wait just to get a table then we got some fruit and sat down had that and went for some cooked food my wife asked for butter as there was none out waiting for almost 10 minutes for this we still had no tea or coffee offered we asked for this and it was brought out shortly only to find the crockery was dirty. Having booked up earlier this year for a party night on the 13th of January with another 2 couples I can safely say we are not looking forward to coming back and if we had had this experience prior to booking for January we would have been looking elsewhere. I have left feed back with the hotel and with the owners but have had no response.
Further to last review of out stay we decided to email feedback directly to hotel, as yet, no response, will advise if we do but if we don't, a letter will go to Director/owner ad people work hard and deserve value for money
Thoroughly disappointed with what can only be described as the "shabby" room that we were allocated for our First Wedding Anniversary celebrations. Completely dated and unkempt, we couldn't have had anything worse. There were no other rooms for us to move to as the hotel was fully booked due to a wedding and the huge queue at checkout meant we did not have the chance to complain to the hotel. Utterly disappointed as it was nothing like what was advertised on the website. I would not recommend.
Stayed overnight on bed and breakfast basis 8th July. Have not stayed here for several years but can say rooms have definately deteriorated in this time. Our room was very disappointing. Wardrobe doors did not close.bathroom door had handle but no barrel so had to use bolt to close. Walls dirty . Mould on bath and shower panel and no bath plug.requested one took an hour to arrive and was dirty with rusty ring! As had dinner renovation had to forget having bath or would have been late. Light in room was missing bulb and floor in bathroom had Kirkby grip and some plastic top of bottle from previous occupant.as hotel very us with wedding knew no point in trying to get another room.on positive note bed comfortable and evening meal was lovely.staff very pleasant and trying to give good service but so busy it was like firefighting. Cost of food /drinks/accommodation was not inconsiderable and when we got home friend was informed we had been under charged for accommodation and had further monies taken from credit card. Enjoyed time with friends but after this experience would not recommend airth castle. The two stars were for the bed and staff approach .
