Radisson Sonya Hotel, St. Petersburg

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is located a little out of the centre but it is easy enough to walk there. The room we had was on the small side and lacked enough space for us to put things, i.e. 2 small suitcases. The room was spotlessly clean and breakfast provided a good choice. All the staff were excellent, attentive and very helpful.

altough the rooms were small they were super clean. the breakfest was pretty nice and the fruit they gave us at the end was fresh. receptionists knew how to speak English-unlike most people in SPb- and were able to help us. the theme of the hotel is pretty unique and nice. the only problem was that no one in the staff knew how to speak English.

We stayed there for 3 nights. A hotel with extremely efficient and courteous staff. The ambience is good and the breakfast catered for most palates, especially Indian vegetarians. The also provided us with a packed vegetarian breakfast very early on our day of departure, the contents were adequate and well thought out. An excellent place to stay.

Not often am I truly impressed by a hotel experience - last time it happened 10 years ago at the Four Seasons. Radisson Sonya managed to deliver, even for my wife who is even a tougher customer than I am. First - an upgrade on arrival was a very pleasant surprise, especially since I booked on points. Hotel was pretty full, but perhaps my loyalty profile with Club Carlson gave me an edge. Regardless, this was a great start to our stay because we got a Business Class room that: 1. was big - I noticed from the floor plans (and some other reviews) that some rooms and bathrooms are rather tight. I was somewhat prepared for it considering the hotel occupies a building in the historic centre of St Petersburg. Our room wasn't just bigger, it was objectively big with an equally big bathroom. To save even more space in both, the room and the bathroom, the designers introduced very convenient 3-4 inch ledges along the bed headboard and the sink podium in the bathroom; and 2. had great amenities - daily water replenished for 3 people, thoughtful bathroom accessories, nespresso coffee maker with a selection of capsules. The decor: hotel advertises itself as a Dostoyevsky-themed place. I'd say it is Dostoyevsky-gone-post-modern. The colours are dark, but don't make it gloomy. Different lighting moods in the room - very funky, yet practical. Lobby: small yet practical. Efficiently laid out without any pomp but in the same clean style. Breakfast: a surprisingly large breakfast area. Great selection of fresh juices, fruits, pastries, and dairy products. Fresh eggs available for order. Service: very helpful and warm. The housekeeping replenished tea and coffee even if only one item was used. Management went out of their way in the middle of our stay to leave us a fruit basket and a little toy for my daughter - thank you guest relations manager Alexandra Miliavskaja. The staff at breakfast also to go out of their way to thank you for your patronage and they do sound very sincere. After all, breakfast is already included in the room rate - and still they make you feel like paid a million bucks for it. Bravo, management and service team! Location: to see the historical sights of St. Petersburg it is hard to imagine a better location, unless you are on the St. Isaac Square or in Grand Hotel Europe. But then you are in a completely different price category. However, the central location precludes parking. I rented a car on this trip and had to hunt for parking every time we made a pit stop at the hotel during the day. In the evenings, however, there was usually a spot near the entrance. In retrospect, a car was a mistake as cabing everywhere would have cost about the same. One thing that could be improved is that housekeeping could be more attentive to the cleaning of the bathroom and replenishing the tea/coffee. Overall, thank you Radisson Sonya!

The location is good, 15 minuts walk to the metro station. but the room was so small. No bathtub and you should ask for shampu because there was just one! Breakfast was good but also there is a little problem with space to find a clean table! And one thing more about the elevator! The elevator is working with your room card, If you have a room in 3d floor, your room card dosent work for other floors! And you cant go to your friends room if you are not in the same floor!

Excellent location, easy walking distance from most of the main sights and museums. Comfortable rooms. Slightly odd literary-themed decor. Efficient and unpretentious, whether for a business stay or a holiday.

Stayed 4 nights in a corner room. A bit small for 2 people, only 1 at time in bathroom. Room 203. Very clean property. Great beds and soundproof room. Faced the street and never heard any traffic noise. Nice breakfast included in our rate. Friendly staff. Would stay there again.

Everything was scaled own from the size of the room, the bathroom, the lighting (dim), to the food portions. A modern hotel which had done a course in "how to squeeze in extra seats on our aircraft". Our initial room was top floor with skylight windows but within 2 minutes water came trickling through the ceiling above the door - phoned reception to request a room change - an engineer would be sent to assess the problem - i.e. either we were lying or maybe we could live with a stream of water coming through the ceiling? The engineer arrived and one glance told him we needed moving, and so we were moved to a far better room lower down with more space. The mini bar was locked and I requested it be unlocked so that I could place perishable items inside including water bottles; credit card details were required first. Breakfast was another bun fight with not enough tables for the guests and a single coffee machine. Eggs had to be ordered at the restaurant reception desk but no guarantee when they would arrive (1 minute/10 minutes +/-), chicken or beef chippolatas and stuck together bacon rashers; that's it for a hot breakfast. The group bookings for evening meals were of standard fare, nothing wrong with them in terms of quality but tiny. You are paying good money for this hotel which is not in the centre of St Petersburg and not up to scratch.

Business room is ok, rather big and cozy. I liked the design and room set up. Location is good, breakfast is ok. Personnel is friendly. Food in restaurant is so-so. Conference room is a disaster: no windows, low ceiling

Had made a reservation at the Radisson Royal hotel and got moved to Sonya the night before arrival. Not bad at all... we got upgraded to superior room facing the atrium. Really nice room and bathroom. The noise from the breakfast was a little bit disturbing though. The breakfast was OK not bad, not excellent but good. Discoverd the last day that you could order eggs of your choice. Very friendly staff and concierge. We booked a private tour through St.Petersburg and it was really good but a little bit expensive. The location is also OK, not the best for shopping or dining but within walking distance if you have good shoes. All in all, value for money
