Awful and scary entrance, filthy hallway with crumbling concrete stairs, ancient and unsafe two person elevator. We walked to the 4th floor every time we came. In. No attempt at safety. Room was tiny, worn and run down with chipped furniture and an ancient TV. There were.no lamps to read by and no AC, it was hot while we were there and it was impossible to sleep, we just sweated all night. There was a ineffective floor fan which did very little. I wouldn't stay here again if you payed me.
Firstly, the photo you show on your website is not of the hotel. The Comfitel Demidov was an absolute dump, we were shocked when we saw it. If you want photos I can supply them. The outside is shocking in appearance as is the inside. The room and bathroom were cleanish but the room itself was very small, worn and tired looking with no lamps to read by. It was hot while we were there and there is no AC in the building. We lay awake at night sweating. I do not recommend this hotel.
This place is one of those new mini-hotels. I have traveled all over the world and never seen anything like it. The place could have been a CIA hideout. It's hard to tell that there is a hotel on the 3rd floor. You can barely see the tiny sign outside in Russian that tells you to press the code to gain entrance. You have to get buzzed into the front entrance, which is a large metal door that leads to a dark and creepy staircase. The stairway smelled like cat urine and hadn't been cleaned since the end of the Cold War. Once you get to your floor you have to press another buzzer and the clerk will let you in. We were given small rooms and I could barely fit in my bed. I wouldn't send my worst enemy to this place.
We were there 6 nights. Location was perfect for us. Hermitage and several famous cathedrals within walking distance. We only used public tranportation to go to Peterhof. Staff was helpful and Spoke English fairly well. Breakfast was adequate. Room was fairly clean and recently updated. Stairwell and main entrance were run down, but didn't affect our stay negatively. The only thing I would do different is skip the night boat ride to see the bridges, I think the view would have been similarly good from the Neva river banks...and you are free to leave after pictures and a few lingering glances. Also check out sunset from St. Isaacs cathedral collade!
This was my first visit to St. Petersburg. Demidov Hotel fit my needs perfectly. It is close to the downtown and sightseeing areas, and is 1 block from the Metro and market area. It is easy to locate, right at the Demidov Bridge. My room was spotless and comfortble, including the toilet and bath. The front desk was polite and helpful, certainly by Russian standards. I would stay at the Demidov again if I ever return to St. Petersburg. There is only one confusing thing. This hotel is located on the 3rd floor of an old building being renovated. The street entrance is a single reinforced steel door that is not clearly marked. This does not look like a hotel from the street. But do not worry about this. The hotel is completely safe, clean and quiet, and I was completely satisfied with my time there.
