We dropped by at the Melt Bistro after a walk for some dinner. Buffet was extensive but we weren't that much hungry so went for à la carte. Drinks are kinda pricy but there's a Happy Hour deal I think 6pm to 7pm (pls Check with them, I can't remember exactly). There were some home made cocktail recipes so I tried the Mojito with green chilli. Not as spicy as expected. What I didn't like was use of the Rum brand called Calypso which is flavored (vanilla?). You may ask for Bacardi or Rockland rum instead. Mains - we ordered a Spaghetti Bolognese (no complaints, tasted as it should) & Grilled Tuna Platter. Grilled Tuna Platte was great! A full Tuna (about 600g) was sliced and grilled, served with a delicious garlic sauce. Included french fries & salad as well. Staff was friendly and there's a great beach view. I loved the place!

We stayed at this hotel as part of an organised tour so we didn't select the hotel. We visited the hotel towards the end of the hotel as we were preparing for home. The hotel has a busy atmosphere and, compared to some hotels that we stayed in, seemed to cater more for parties and groups of friends rather than families. The hotel is on the beach, which is shared by a number of hotels and restaurants. Check in was friendly and our room was in the main hotel at the top of three flights. The room was large and clean with TV & Fridge & Safe. We had a balcony and sea view. The food was buffet style. The food choices were not as wide as we'd found in other hotels but the food was ok. The restuarant also had a pizza and pasta bar that we didn't try. The drinks bar was bustling and a nice place to sit at the end of the day. We were out on trips during the day but we did use the 'lengths' pool each day. It was a nice way to get our heads back into civilisation after days in the National parks.

Stayed for 2 nights. Hotel had mainly Europeans/ Americans/ Japanese/ Chinese guests. We were the only Indian family. We found the staff across to be indifferent and partial in their service to us. Two specific examples- 1) we had asked for sea- facing/ view room. We had confirmation on this from our agent. On check-in we weren't given sea facing/view room. We were informed that all the rooms are full. So we informed the agent. Subsequently we are given sea-facing/ view room. 2) On first day we were in the restaurant for dinner. Requested for menu card few times but wasn't given for more than 30 mins. Then no one turned up to take the order though other tables were occupied & guests were being served. Ultimately I went to the bar, picked up our drinks. During the dinner, whenever we requested for any item it wasn't delivered before couple of reminders though guests around were being served well. This was experienced during breakfast & dinner on next 2 days. We shared out feedback with the manager at counter while checking out on Feb 28. Have explicitly mentioned to him that if the hotel doesn't want to entertain persons from specific countries then they shouldn't take the booking for guests from these countries. We subsequently stayed in Earl's Residency, Kandy and had excellent experience. We have been in Sri Lanka in July 2011 for 7 nights but we never had such an experience in 4 different hotels where we stayed in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Weerawila and Bentota.

Hotel complex is located on the beach in a really lovely spot. Easy check in although I had to wait an hour for a room as I had arrived early! I had a room in the main part of the hotel but no beach view. Room was lovely and was well apportioned, as was the toilet/ shower room area. There was also a small balcony with 2 seats and a table. There were free toiletries and tea / coffee makings. There was also a safety box. I are both dinner and breakfast in the hotel and they were OK. The second part of the hotel, across a lane had a really neat pool and pool area. All in all I’d you are looking for a really good quality hotel on the beach - this is the place! Also it is not that far to Galle. Also sort of behind the hotel is a real neat shopping street.

This hotel is a good balance of comfort, luxury and simplicity. Rooms are decent for the price. Location is good, pools are nice and staff is friendly. A lovely beach stretches in front of the hotel where one can take a long walk. Sometimes fish is sold out on the outside barbeque because it's all subject to availability in the local market. At least it's always fresh!

Stayed at the calamander beach hotel as a couple first 2 weeks of January. Location excellent. Room very large and comfortable. Most of the staff very helpful. Food in restaurant not very exciting but that is not a problem as there are some very good restaurant on hand. Must mention The black and white. The pink elephant. And the bed rest. Plus the location of the hotel made going out and about easy by tuk tuk

Wonderful Hotel, lovely rooms, fab grounds and pool and leisure facilities, wonderful polite friendly staff, loved the seafood market for the fresh fish wonderfully prepared. Nothing was to much trouble for the staff, I hope ill return sometime soon

To start with: the staff are amazing! I was sick for half our trip and our housekeeper gave me some mental vub for my face and chest. It really opened me up. He even came to check on me later in the day. ❤️ I am really picky with my hotels (cleanliness) and loved this place. However, there is a trick to staying here..... you need to stay in the new building (across the alley- over looks the red pool) I believe they are called family suites or junior suites, something like that. We stayed in both sides, the old building and the new. So this rating is based on the new building. (The old building is a little musty, dark and in need of up dating.... but is still far better and cleaner then other places we have stayed on Unawatuna beach) (Our trip got extended a few times, so we ended up staying in a few rooms within the hotel) We stayed in 406 (has two twin beds pushed together) but is a suite over looking the red pool. Has a nice layout and new bathroom. Balcony We also stayed in 505 and I could basically live there! It had the same layout but a better view, obscured ocean view (past the pool) and a king size bed. Balcony. We also stayed in 112. Ok, this room is basically the last room you want to stay in. This is in the old building and is dark and part of a locked off family suite. If you can upgrade, it’s worth it. No balcony. I found prices to be cheaper on booking or agoda Vs booking straight through the hotel. Also, don’t eat or drink at the hotel if you can help it! It’s REALLY over priced and as other reviews, the foods not so great. The black and white cafe, next door has the cheapest drinks I’ve found and tortuga and Koko beach bar were good for snacks. The best dinner we found was at the far end of the beach: sun & sea restaurant was AMAZING and we should have eaten every meal there! Sea horse diving has and amazing owner who speaks perfect English and took my husband on some amazing dives. Hope this helps!

The resort has good food and a wide variety to satisfy all comers. Great restaurant location on the beach and far enough away from the main road that noise is not an issue. We booked a standard room and were disappointed in its size, lack of decor, lack of any kind of a view as there was only a small window, and mattresses that had seen better days. Staff friendly and helpful, but lacking in numbers which resulted in waiting time. The pool is across the alley and was great for our kids. In short this was our least favorite hotel in an eight day southern Sri Lanka trip.

Just returned from a week at this hotel. The rooms and public areas were clean but we didn’t feel that there were enough staff to serve customers, especially at busy times and therefore we were left waiting for lengthy periods of time for a drink etc. Having said that the staff they did have were very friendly and helpful. Overall a ‘nice’ hotel.
