Yes it's a bit old but it's comfy, has a pool, restaurant, opposite the bowling club and on a bus route. Staff are great and any issues are dealt with quickly and with a smile. And it won't cost a bomb. What more do you want.
this motel was clean and tidy the staff were friendly, the outside of the place looks tatty and old with paint pealing of the railings if you have A disability then this motel is no good for you there is a very steep driveway but the biggest problem is there wifi charges the charge was 500 mb for 2 days only that is expensive compared to other motels
Saturday night stay with family of four. We arrived in Nelson Bay in early afternoon on a Saturday and dropped into the Visitor Information Centre. Friendly staff who contacted the Ibis and managed to get a good last minute rate for us. The staff at the Ibis were efficient. The room was basic but functional despite showing its age. Close to the Bowling Club for a cheap feed and drinks. Quiet location.
Went there for a significant family celebration. My parents live locally. The rest of the family travelled up to 200 km to eat there. Basic menu selections of meat, salad and chips, and only a handful of people in the pub itself, yet a long wait for the food. Chips were under-cooked. Fish was overcooked. Hamburgers were missing menu-listed ingredients eg caramelised onions. One hamburger had cheese and the other didn't. Request to remove beetroot from one (teenager's) hamburger was ignored. Rude table service from the male. Apologetic professional service from the female. No one asked why our meals were largely uneaten - maybe it was obvious. Never ever will go there again and that will be passed around the social circle at the bay. I note that they do not offer the opportunity to provide feedback online. Do yourself a favour and cross the road to the bowling club. You might have to queue, and it is crowded, but you will be served with a smile and the food is great.
Great location and fantastic food. Our room was a little bit outdated but in good condition regardless. The beds are very comfortable. Having booked a garden view, we got to see the sea behind the trees. Would definitely come back.
En route from Sydney to Gold Coast we stayed 2 nights at a bay view room. Great view, average breakfast. It is a shame that apparently no one is investing any money in maintaining the hotel. Some repairs and some paint would definitely help. But overall it was a pleasant stay. Go out on the jetty late at night, but take a flashlight as it is quite dark, but once you are out there the starlit skies are breathtaking! Simply amazing , the best I have seen on the trip, thanks to no lights on the beach.
We stayed here for three nights as part of a Groupon deal. We received three nights in an Ocean View room, breakfast each morning and wine on arrival. Adele who checked us in - is a complete star her knowledge of the area and her friendly approachable attitude made our stay! Nothing was too difficult she made suggestions on what to do during each day!!! The view was another highlight. The balconies are not private. They are shared with the room next door to yours separated with a metal fence. There is no privacy screen between that balcony or any of the ones on the same level. We played an awkward game of cat and mouse with the couple next door trying not to get in each other’s space. The rooms need a little love. Our shower was leaking water towards the roof at high velocity. There were no power points near the bed for charging phones etc they were all located on the opposite side of the room which was inconvenient. Breakfast was of a good standard and barista style coffee was included which was great to see. The restaurant again needs some attention and the food was of pub standards. We enjoyed our stay, it was great value for money. In a great location - close to shops and attractions. We would stay again.
This was a croupon deal and a great deal, we stayed two nights in a garden view room it was spacious, bed was very comfy. The food was delicious and generous portions. The staff were all friendly and helpful. A great location to the beach and local arears. The pool was great and well used. The place does need some repairs and updating I would recommend it for sure.
Stayed here many times over the years and even though it is getting old it still has the location service and price to keep me coming back.Garden spa room is great with breakfast deal add a seaview and it doesn't get much better.staff are always polite and no worries with free car parking.
Whilst the hotel is situated away from the main town, it is still close enough to enjoy what Nelson Bay has to offer. However whilst the room was comfortable the hotel needs some serious cash spent on it. The outside is tired and parts of it falling down and missing sheets of roofing on the main walkways (this was blocked off however) and rusty support poles holding the ceiling of the walkways up. When we were sitting outside having a drink at the bar (which was a great spot with a lovely seabreeze on a 44 degree day) you can see where sections of the guttering and fascia are falling down. The property also needs a good freshen up paint right throughout the place both internal and external. The room itself was comfortable however cold also do with new furniture as the furniture is still the same as it was in 1978 (or seems like it anyway). We would have loved to have sat on our balcony and enjoyed the scenery and birds but we had 2 dodgey chairs and no table to put drinks or nibblies on which was a real shame. The bar and restaurant were very nice, they were clean and the food was ok, we had the buffet breakfast which was ok, it was included in our package however we did have dinner there 1 night and the meals looked really good coming out, very fresh and plenty of food on the plates. Whilst the hotel represented ok value for money, would i stay here again???? Only if there were no other options available.
