You are charged more on the weekend but the room does not get cleaned on Sunday. If there is an issue, the office is closed. Checkout time there was no one around. We had to just leave the key in the room. We like the location and there have been renovations in some of the rooms but the good vibes we had in prior years are gone. There appear to be tenants on the second floor rather than hotel guests. Never saw the owner the entire six days we were there. Just one employee who appeared to be out of sorts. I guess she had to do everything. Nice lady but clearly overworked.
We stayed for three days at the beginning of our vacation and three days at the end of our vacation in St Martin. It's clean and comfortable. Close to many good restaurants and entertainment. Free parking right in front of your unit. Well equipped kitchen cable TV, free Internet, beach towels. We will be staying there again in April 2017 prior to our time share stay and again in may at the end of our timeshare stay. Close to the airport but we were not bothered by the noise.
This hotel is off the beaten path, but my husband and I were more than pleased with our 1 night stay. We needed a place to sleep for our last night on St Maarten and booked here. Room was more than we needed but comfortable and clean. I would not hesitate to come back here and will probably be in February 2018 (wink wink). If you Sahara, say "pss pss!"
This place is clean and quiet. I went with my daughter and we appreciated having a full kitchen so we could go to the local market and buy fish to cook. The kitchen was well-appointed and had everything we needed. The beds were fine, nothing special but a good, safe place to sleep. The grounds are well-kept with a small dipping pool which we used a couple times. It is a short walk to the beach which is only OK. You could easily walk it but beware of dogs off-leash as there are a few on the beach. The water seemed more like swimming in a working harbour with boats coming and going. Best to go to some of the beaches near-by. Really did not see much of the hotel manager as it was Christmas and was probably busy. What little contact we had was fine.
Do not let the immediate surroundings or even the external appearance of this hotel frighten you. This is very convenient place, perfectly clean, very pleasant and helpful manager and staff. Close to the airport, to a nice beach, and to several restaurants.
We love to travel, n have been to quite a few places. This is my first review precisely because St. Maarten, Carter n his staff at this lovely inn made the trip so worthwhile n memorable. The hotel may not be fancy, but the location is perfect in the Simpson Bay area. The accomodations have everything u need so that u could spend ur money enjoying this lovely destination. When the airline misplaced my luggage, Carter contacted them n even gave them his personal cell phone. Thank u man. Walking distance is Cafe Atlantico n Little Jerusalem. U will thank me later. Safe travels!
We stayed at the Turquoise Shell Inn in March, we had room #4, which was ideally located on the ground floor, with a small patio in front with a view of the pool. While not luxurious, it was nicely decorated and very clean, with a fully equipped kitchen and a separate bedroom with a quiet air conditioning unit. Great WIFI. The beach is right across the lane way, although you have to walk along the beach for about 10 minutes to reach the more sandy area, then it is gorgeous. Carter was very helpful, as was all staff. The bus runs right in front of the hotel, and there are restaurants and supermarkets close by. So all in all a great choice, we would go back. The only suggestions for improvement is that the pool furniture needs either to be replaced or needs a good scrubbing. As for Simpson's Bay area, the beach is great and it's close to everything, unfortunately there is no sidewalk and you take your life in your own hands by walking along the road.
While we stayed here as a super convenient airport stopover, we would not hesitate to come back and stay longer. Our room was clean, comfortable, and well equipped for a longer stay. We arrived in the afternoon and found easy access to the beach out the back and across the road. It was less than an hour from landing to “toes in sand.” Carter was very helpful with orientation, setting up a taxi, as well as, drinking and dining recommendations for our short stay. There were many interesting restaurants (we could only try one) within walking distance. This would make a nice base to use from which to explore the island.
I would NEVER recommend this hotel! We called owner Carter before a Caribbean cruise leaving and returning to Saint Maarten. He took our credit card and guaranteed us a 8am check in the day our cruise arrived and we told him we only needed the room for five hours until our flight. A day room. The charge for five hours we agreed to was $80. We were glad to pay it to have a place to rest before a late flight home. He gave us his cell phone and said no problem of checking in at 8am. We arrived at the pier on that morning, had a cab drive us to the hotel. When we couldn't find office, we had can wait with us for an hour and a half as we called his cell, pounded on his residence door ( another guest said he lived upstairs) and waited around to see if he would show up. Finally we had cab take us to airport. We had to pay the cab for ride to hotel, waiting one and s half hours then driving us to airport. We ended up in the airport for six more hours before our flight. What a horrible experience! Don't trust Carter or go to this run down unprofessional hotel.
From start to finish our experience with Turquoise Shell Inn was absolutely ace. Carter is wonderful and thinks of everything. The rooms are comfortable, great water pressure in the shower and you are right one the beach! Enjoy coffee on your porch and within minutes be on the white sand beach and enjoying the beautiful water. This is an ideal location because you are within walking distance of dozens of bars and restaurants!!! Carter made sure we were comfortable and gave us lots of local intel, to get a real local feel of the island. The room was VERY clean and the property is clean. I also LOVE that they recycle! If you want easy, convenient comfort in Sint Maarten, this is your place!
