You need a car when you stay at this property. The wife and husband owners are so nice and helpful to show the kitchen. There is a professional kitchen all equipped that guests can use until 10pm. The view from my room was seaside and wonderful

A lovely couple run this hotel....so thoughtful and helpful ...lovely location on the edge of town and overlooking the harbour.if I visit Utoro again I wouldn't hesitate to return this hotel. Marvellous

An oasis

A truly awesome oasis on the edge of town, with superb views over the bay, and lovely owners who go out of their way to help you. The other guests were also friendly, and the set-up of the open kitchen where you can prepare your own meals is a bonus. Actually the best bonus was the free coffee available 24/7. That was a blessing to the two drowned rats who made it to the hotel in a torrential downpour… You would be hard-pressed to find better accommodation on the peninsula, and far less likely to meet nicer people. 5 big stars.

Wonderful little seaside stay. Happy to open my windows to hear the waves rushing in. I think it’s a lovely spot ! Extremely happy to catch sunrise at my window view too

The owner lady and her are delightful. The room is facing the sea which is creating dramatic atmosphere. Just the stairs are a bit hard to carry luggage’s, but the owner’s son gave us big help to carry the cases for us. Overall fantastic experience to stay in Shari.

Much better than I expected. Rooms were clean and seemed renovated. Beautiful view from rooms. Room like a hotel, facilities and convenience of hostel with a large common kitchen and dining area. Staff were helpful. Not quite in town (a few minutes drive), but this made for a beautiful sea view.

My partner and I planned on camping and the campsites had closed for the season, so we went looking for options. This hotel was great! We ended up staying an additional night here, and plan to incorporate it into trips to the area in the future. The family that ran the hotel were wonderful and patient with the language barrier at times. We hope to stay again!

Friendly and comfortable

A small hotel that was friendly and comfortable. The view of the Okhotsk Sea from the room and terrace was wonderful. As mentioned in the description, you can cook your own meals, and there is free coffee for the guests. It takes a walk of about 20 minutes to get to the port of Utoro (for boat tours of the Shiretoko Peninsula and the bus centre) and "Godzilla Rock". There is a ramen and yakitori restaurant about 10 minutes from the hotel. I would definitely stay there again if I have the chance to revisit Utoro!

a perfect place

A perfect place in Shiretoko. Friendly staff, pretty spacious rooms and nice public space for breakfast and relaxing. They can also give a ride to one of the restaurants in the city (of their choice) which can be very useful (restaurant will give a ride back). Free parking space and great sea breeze

Amazing Hospitality & Great Vibe!

The hotel was about 20mins by foot from the Utoro Onsen Bus Terminal, so it was slightly inconvenient with our luggages. That said, the owner of the inn was really friendly and welcoming, which more than made up for the inconvenience. She even gave us 2 bicycles to use for free during our stay (compliments for guests who did not travel by car) and drove us to the Bus Terminal several hours after the check-out time. Facilities-wise, the pantry/kitchen was very cosy and comfortable; the balcony a great place to relax and view the surrounding scenery, the room clean, thoughtfully decorated and well-equipped (hairdryer, kettle etc). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here (and also playing with the adorable dog!).

Beautiful view, great staff

Hotel is on a quite part of the old coastal highway now bypassed by a tunnel. Rooms are small but well-equipped and the view over the harbour is great. The staff is really friendly and helpful and the restaurant serves excellent pizza with local ingredients.

One of few sub-par lodgings in Japan??

Iruka in Utoro claims itself to be a hotel, but it is operated like a low-end minshuku (guest house). It has one great attraction, its location is right by the sea, beautiful view of the sea throughout the day. Other than that, general quality of the place is rather poor, primarily because it has been around for quite a few years. And in fairness, maintaining such a place is rather difficult for small lodging owners in Japan. Overall, it was not what I expected. Fortunately, I only planned a 1-night stay. There is however one pleasant surprise, lunching at a boutique cafe about 600 metres down the road. It is named GVO, the owner is a sea urchin fisherman during "Uni" fishing season, so his specialty is cooking uni in a variety of ways. I had Spaghetti Uni - perfect!!!

Good location, view and pizza

We stayed 2 nights to explore Shiretoko. We stayed in a family Japanese style room with 4 futons. The futons were comfortable and plenty of space in the room. A fridge also In the room and you can use their dining area and deck to have your afternoon drink while taking in the view. If you walk over the hill you will catch the sunset. The pizzas are delicious and the staff really helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel.
