The front desk cannot speak English. There was an event of room mantainance for door locaker exchange, but all done when I am away and without permessio. The room have very bad smell. Cleaniness is acceptable. Sound proof is weak, as can heard the step walking from outside. Don't provide refrig.
Prostitute name card and dust welcoming you in your room. The internet connection was very slow. Upon arrival, I was told they cannot find my booking. I had then to pay again. I was charged for my first booking, and again by the hotel. After an horrendous night (window was open, it was cold, dirty, and had prostitutes name card under the door, I did not feel comfortable at all there), I asked to move out, which was agreed by the hotel manager, up until now I am waiting for the refund of the resting nights. I do not want to make advertisement for other hotel, but there is at least one, which has a much friendlier staff and cleaner premise very nearby... and especially honest, as they don't charge for unused services and do what they say they will do.
Filthy place, full of mold and the smell of cold cigarette smoke in the room. We arrived very later after we made a booking via ctrip. As we entered the lobby we we're welcomed with a woman shouting NO, NO, NO at us, trying to tell us there was no room available. After like 1 hour of discussion we got a room anyhow but now i figured out that i was charged twice because she didn't consider the ctrip booking. It was a terrible experience. Even being used to non english speaking stuff, the effort to help us was really minimal.
Stayed here for a one night stop-off in Shanghai before heading back to Pudong airport. This motel is conveniently situated near the Bund area sights and eating places. Good value for the money and great free WIFI. Room adequate, surprisingly quiet and bed was comfortable, though don't expect any luxury. Plenty of hot water but shower floor very slippery. Electrical power points were not properly screwed to the wall - worked well enough but did not inspire confidence. Room was clean but indifferent maintenance standards meant the place looked rather run down. Reception area is unattractive but English speaking reception staff were polite, friendly and helpful.
I stayed in Motel 268 (still don't get the 168 vs 268 thing). Good value for money, certainly a good practical choice if you just want a small room with shower etc., but don't care much about atmosphere. Don't expect fellow backpackers hanging out in the lounge, which doesn't exist. This is basically a chain hotel for Chinese people. Reception staff is friendly but don't speak much English. Room was small and basic, but modern bathroom, TV and WiFi. Not much space to put things though, it felt a bit narrow. Visual privacy - you've got to be lucky with your neighbours. But just a short walk from the Bund and E Nanjing Rd, that made up for it.
Room with AC and attached bathroom for 208 RMB. (Room 632). Very close to the Bund and at the end of the East Nanjing Road, this Motel 168 is a good option for that price. The building is horrible and the rooms were not as expected. However, we are not sure if it was our room (special internet offer) or all were like that. We booked it through Ctrip website ("Motel 168 Shanghai Bund"). It is very close to the East Nanjing Road metro station... Ningbo Exit!
I do like those chain motels/hotels, like 168, home inn, hanting, that have popped up in most major cities in China ... you always kinda know what you get, no bad surprises, book online and - pretty important when on a business trip - quite reliable free internet connections on the room. i do stay in 168 motels a lot. but this branch lacks a long way behind 168 standards. it has about the charm of a cramped mongkok hostel - minus the friendliness and cleanliness. the kingsize-bed-room, advertised and sold as 16sqm on elong, was actually the size of the bed. the bed linnen was dirty and torn and the carpet looked like it hadn't been hoovered for ages. the furniture looked like it came from the junkyard. the lobby (reception) - on the same floor as the rooms (lots of comotion) was second hand smoke filled ... if this motel has seen better days, they are long past ... I felt like this branch really leaves a stain on the chain's reputation. there is a newer, larger branch of Motel 168 on Jinling East Road ... all very nice there, friendly staff and the location isn't really much less attractive than this place off The Bund, and it's cheaper by about 50 RMB.
Ok, I travel a lot, I try to pick hotels based on the location and reviews, I've been in China before and i know that there was an hotel chain called motel 168 and motel 268 which seems to be a more luxury version, it's that type of hotels that is well known by locals but not that much by tourists . So let's start The first thing i notice when i arrive is that the name in the hotel is motel 168 but in the rooms all is 268! The motel 168 (268) The bund has a perfect location, it;s very near to the nanjing road which is THE PLACE for shopping and knowing The Bund, the hotel is not like a 4 start hotel but it's pretty cool, the room is not too big but with enough space, the rooms are modern style and have free wifi so it's perfect. After a day visiting Shanghai and buying souvenirs you just walk 2 blocks and you are back in the hotel. It seems like the motel - hotel has the property of some floors of the building and have totally redesign the rooms and access, when you enter the hotel you have to use the access that is for both the building residents and the hotel. In the roof you can find a restaurant which is not in very well condition but has a nice view of the city. The access was easy and the concierge was courteous also. +What i Like -Perfect Location -Excelent relation price/what you get -Nice modern type rooms +What i dont like -Not all in the reception speak english -You can hear people talking in the corridor, Cheers, take a look at my pics, if you find this info useful, positive feedback will be appreciated. PD: If you want to meet "girlfriends" in shanghai it will be very easy, and seems that this hotel is well known by locals, so try to be on the safe side and try to be accompained, i was alone but i never got girlfriends, may be the next time ;)
