Very elegant. Staff were super friendly and curtious.

The room initially signed to me smelled bad on smoking. When I called the reception asking for change to a non-smoking room, a man agent picked up the phone, but refused to make the change. I went down to the reception desk and approached to a lady agent She was nice and made the change. I put this on note.

Good hotel, very well located. Just 5min from a subway station

I am very satisfied with the staying at Guxiang Hotel.

I had a room on the 12th floor, overlooking Century Square. I loved how in the morning I could watch people do morning exercises near the square like tai chi and fan dances. If there was a performance at night, I could see and hear enough to know that I could get down there to watch it. Maid service was good. There are plenty of shops and restaurants in walking distance. The hotel is in walking distance of metro stations too, but those walks are not close. Some of the outlets in my room didn't work. Of those that did work, only one was in a convenient location. Some of the buttons controlling the lights are not sensitive, requiring multiple touches to respond. The carpet was old. Overall, I felt the hotel's age. The employees are nice, and the people who check you in know enough English to do the job.

I really wanted to give this hotel a higher rating. The staff certainly tried (for the most part) hard, but it is hampered by the area. The number of hawkers in the area seeking to sell watches, shoe shines, massages and more is annoying. The fact that the hotel cannot keep them out of the lobby is unacceptable. I do not like being propositioned as I am getting on the elevator. Period. End of story. The Good: Responsive Front Desk Staff. Quick check in, Good cab booking for early morning trip to airport, friendly. Location: Convenient to mass transit, the shopping and the bund. Room: Well set up room with mostly functioning items including good shower. The only "broken" item was a clearly broken towel rack. But that doesn't really knock off anything. Internet: Good connection Plugs/Adaptors: Good power availability. The Bad: Location: Near the shopping street and the hawkers. Hawkers in Hotel Closings: The hotel closed the second floor pub. Gone. Still mentioned in the hotel literature. Fix the literature if you close the place. Indifferent Bar Staff: In lobby bar they stood over you when you sat down to order a drink. Then they disappeared. Completely. For an extended period. No chance for another drink, no chance for getting the check. Gone.

Comfortable hotel that has seen better days. Convenient, walkable, And safe. But feels dated. A good value but I believe there are more current properties in same price range that compete.

Good location, but the bathroom smelled very bad and some lights didn't work. Unexperienced staff in the front desk and door.

Ok I've now stayed at the Grand Central, the Central and HoJo. Roomwise all three are comprable. I liked them all. Somehow HoJo had a slight edge, but just slight! I would stay in all three! The Chinese restaurant on 3rd floor was very good and prices were very reasonable...and if they can control the fnng Chinese smokers, it would be a real five star restaurant! Ate there twice! My travelling business partner was Mr Latte at the Starbucks there! All in all highly recommended even tho the registration process was a little cold and impersonal!

I spent one night here after a cruise from Vancouver. Very nice Howard Johnson with excellent finishing. Terrific location. Walking distrance to the Bund, Shanghai Museum, Peoples square, maint shopping center.. etc etc. I was on the 12th floor room 1205. Very quient. A/C was slow to cool down, and the check in staff did not explain that you had to hold the card up to the sensor to go up in the elevator. also swipe the card to open your room. I did not use the restaurant as it seemed overprices, but withing 1 block is the large shopping area which has fast food... MdDonalds,Pizza Inn, KFC, as well as local foods. This could be the center location if you spend several days in shanghai. Taxi to the PUDONG Airport about 35 minutes and costs about $40 (214 Yuan).

Location was wonderful. Good restaurants and fun shopping area was near by hotel.

This is my second time at this hotel and intend to stay there again.

Only thing good about this hotel is location, location, location: just next to the main shopping street and very convenient but is not worth the big bucks you pay for. Furniture is old style. I had much better expectation for the money I have paid. Definitely not a five star. If they adverstised themselves as 3 or 3.5 stars, I would've given them better rating if the price was also right accordingly.

Excellent location, which is located right near the shopping street that leads right up to the bund. Also, it's just a short taxi ride to Yuyan garden to get a dose of some Chinese culture. Next time I'm in Shanghai, if the price is right I will definitely be staying here again. P.S. the breakfast buffet every morning is excellent and the staff are very kind and helpful.

Great location with family to travail especially with kids. Staff was nice, but buffer was little pricy.

Very good location, right beside on the shopping street.

I spent 6 nights in this hotel. Its location is great, convenient for everything. Room and service are satisfactory. I will recommend it to my friends.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. It is a block away from the pedestrian mall and a short walk to the Bund. We were upgraded to an even nicer room than we booked! The concierge, Oliver, was super helpful. His English was excellent, which made it even easier for us to learn about this local area. The only complaint we had was that the room was quite warm because of the heat setting that is 'universal' (or something like that), but they provided us with in room air conditioners and that remedied the situation.

The best location if you want to tour the center or Shanghai
