Rumor has it this is being torn down and replaced. That would explain why the owners aren't investing any time or money in upkeep. The shower was moldy, the window unit, microwave and television are all on one surge strip, hanging on an extension cord. Even though the room was advertised as non-smoking, it was impossible to escape the stale smell of cigarette smoke.

The motel reminded me of the 1970s beach trips I would take with my parents. Rooms have your basic necessities even tough they're dated. Staff was attentive. People staying at the motel were very nice and having the beach right behind me with the sunset was well worth it.

It's on the beach! I liked it. Wife not so much. She likes luxury.

I loved the vintage 1950s look and feel of the hotel. The private beach was beautiful and clean.

The beach was closed and no one let us know, everything else good.

I liked that it was supposed to be beach front and they appeared to be flexible. However, we were not allowed to stay at the beach Saturday as we had planned because they have a policy that was not disclosed ANYWHERE that people checking out that day could not stay on the beach because people checking in that day would come early. This was told to us by a manager that was guarding the entrance to the beach. I would not have stayed had I known that. Not were we told that we could come early and go to the beach. We were told check in was at 3:00pm and that was that. We were not allowed to stay past our check out time of 11:00am. I am highly dissatisfied and we were treated horribly by this “manager”.

The bed, the mattress had a hole the size of 3 basketballs which caused you to sink down in it. This was the one of the worst places that we have ever stayed in the US. Over-priced and a real dive

Reserved online a queen bed. got to the resort the woman at the desk did not smile once nor was she anything but "flat". She did not exude friendliness or comfort, actually made one feel rather uncomfortable liek we were bothering her for making her have to work. She did not have our reservation in her system and seemed rather bewildered. It became apparent why. After she reached out to someone on the walkie talkie and 15 minutes later she gave us our reservation. We went to the room and it had a "murphy" bed. This was not what we reserved. In addition to that when we pulled it down one of the pillows had a dirty pillow cover and the bedding looked like it had been just picked up off the street. The room was dirty. Old is fine and we are not fancy people but this was just gross. It was obvious no one was putting a dime back into the place for years. I went to the desk and complained that this was not what we reserved and was told that was all they had. I also stated the the bed pillow was dirty and she replied that she would give us clean linens. Im sorry but shouldn't clean linens have been on the bed. Again no warmth or smile or anything from this woman other than her attitude that we were bothering her making her do her job.

Lovely beach w/ sunset views. Needed lamp for reading in bed and never got one despite reminding them 3 days in a row.

The location was perfect. The room was clean and staff were friendly. We stayed in room 203, the only complaint we have is the mattress needs replacing as my husband and I "rolled" to the middle of the bed. The pool walls need to be scrubbed, there was algae at the top of the wall. This is our second stay at this "resort" and will be back I'm sure. It is a great stay for the price.

Like all historic properties, this one had its quirks, but I couldn’t have asked for a better location or friendlier staff. They had everything I needed and more: fridge, microwave, BBQ grills, heated pool, tiki tent for those of us who need SPF 100, shuffle board, laundry and bikes to rent on site. The private beach was amazing, with plenty of lingers and just steps from my door. Walking distance to dinner, and if I wanted to take a bus into Sarasota, the stop was directly across the street. Safe, well lit area. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

It was probably the closest hotel room to the ocean on the whole lido island

We chose this hotel for location. Looking at the website I guess they do have some nice accommodations, we didn’t get one. On the morning we were leaving l noticed bed bugs!! I’m still itching a day later. Our neighbors told us they had cockroaches. The room was very disappointing, not what I thought I booked but they couldn’t move us because they were booked. I couldn’t even ask for a refund and go elsewhere because it was bought and paid paid for through Orbitz in October for our visit in April. Never again through Orbitz.

It is a nice beachfront motel. It is old, from the 50's but in fine condition. A great place for families. It is right on the beach

nice place but old. wifi is spoty and red tide was really bad.

We enjoyed our stay at the Gulf Beach Resort Motel. All the staff was super welcoming and friendly. The outside of property was well maintained. Our room was 304 and was a little outdated and the bed was not made when we checked in. We did though check in 15 minutes early. It did disturb me a little that the pillows had their cases on but the rest of the bedding was missing. I can't say they were dirty because that's not fair to the cleaning staff. They did appear clean. The room was a little run down and there were bugs smashed on the walls inside the room but we were told there was an over abundance of Love bugs this year. I just wish they would have maybe wiped them off the walls before we arrived. The room could use a deep cleaning but I understand how hard it is to do turn over cleaning so it's ready for the next guests to arrive. Maybe a deep cleaning on a day when the room isn't booked? We tend to overlook what we see everyday. When we checked in I was worried that it was going to be noisy because the neighbors were enjoying their music pretty loudly but I do have to say when we got in our room it was pretty quiet. The beds were also very comfortable and the air conditioning worked fabulously. We only stayed two days and moved to a more expensive resort the last portion of our anniversary trip. I do have to say if I were to do it over I would have stayed at the Gulf Beach Resort the entire trip. The more expensive resort was no cleaner and it was much noiser.

If you are looking for a 5-star hotel....move on. If you are looking for a family style room with a kitchenette then this is great! It is a little outdated but well kept, very friendly staff and people! It sits on the beach so that is definitely an extra! We will definitely be coming back!!!

We tried to reach out to all our guest - unfortunately we did not get an accurate status of the beach re-nourishment program. Thank you for your review.
