Spacious and nice room and clean bedding, that's about it for the good things. I booked the Japanese style room with futons more than a month before the stay, and what we got was an old Western/Japanese room with two single beds. When I complained, they tried to put the blame on me and insisted they didn't do anything wrong. Only when I showed my reservation info, they acknowledged there was a "mix-up" and then went on to say there's nothing they can do because the rooms are all full. Their attitude dealing with this the whole time was righteous and not-welcoming. I'm not usually a pressing type, but I felt so offended that I had to demand the right room, or at least some sort of compensation. Only then, they reluctantly changed our room to a still-not-occupied Japanese room. So in the end, it "worked out," but I couldn't but notice how they treat Japanese customers in the meantime, and it left me feel bitter. They were a lot nicer and politer, and more accommodating. It wasn't only me; the way they were looking at the foreign guide who brought a group of customers was appalling. Also, if you're a fan of open baths, you have to be very careful of timing. Only one public bath has a open bath out of the two, and women can use it only in the afternoon, and men at night and in the morning. I couldn't say the public bath was clean.

A nice onsen hotel. It is a Japanese style hotel with western style guest room. The rate typically includes half board and therefore is a good deal. Both the buffet breakfast and dinner were great with many choices. The hotel is located at a quiet side of a quiet town with great view of the mountain and th stream. The room is of average size but it has big and quiet lounge for restiing. It also provides free parking on site. Staff are friendly and can communicate in English (though limited). As a Japanese style hotel, check in time is 3 pm and check out time 10 am. While waiting for check in, we were allowed to use the Onsen facilities free of charge, so we can also relax while waiting for checking in.

Booked two rooms for 2 nights. Hotel is dated but the rooms in 2 blocks were renovated just a few years back. Rooms are large and comfortable. Ample selection of food for both breakfast and dinner. However, the venue looks more like a dated food hall than a restaurant. Hotel is about 15 minutes walk from the main attractions. Jozankei is very pretty, especially after a fresh coat of snow.

The room is spacious, clean, comfortable. The restaurant has a large sitting capacity. The spread is great. The sashimi and sushi is fresh. The beef is tender and juicy. There is a good spread of western and japanese dessert.

Pros: 1) Exterior/interior design looks a little 80ish but common areas are huge with lots of sitting areas where you can use the free wifi. 2) Rooms are western-style – clean, comfortable and quipped with 4-star hotel amenities. 3) Onsen is acceptable except that there were no clear signage if we could go outdoors. 4) Service standards exceed expectations. a. There is even a “fitting area” in the hotel lobby for you to find the right size of the yukata provided. b. Wee hours, I went to the reception desk to ask for an extra pillow. A very senior staff tried to explain that he had to man the counter. But in less than 10 min, he walked around the common area looking for me to pass me the pillow. He literally/figuratively went the extra mile! =) Conclusion: For a 3-star onsen resort/hotel in a fairly small town at this price line, I would be unreasonable to demand for more.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights and loved it. The hotel shuttle bus picked us up from Sapporo Station and in less than an hour we were at the hotel. Booking in was quick and easy, we were on the fourth floor in a western style room which was quite spacious. The hotel is well set up with a huge foyer area and huge lounge area's where you can sit at nice comfortable tables and lovely lounge chairs to relax or do some computer work, there is no wi fi in the rooms but it is very good in the lounge areas, this is a nice place to sit as it overlooks the river and the snow covered mountains rear up straight in front of you . Our room had the same lovely aspect, could not get much better . They have a great dining room and dinner and breakfast are both smorgasboard, plenty to eat and plenty of variety, Japanese and western. There is a good bar there as well. The natural hot spring baths are great and boy the water is nice and hot, there are inside and outside baths so take your choice, they are well set up as all Japanese hot springs are . We used them before dinner and before breakfast, so relaxing. Their is a shop at the hotel and the staff are great all around the hotel which is a big place . The morning of our departure the bus came and left right on the second to take us back to Sapporo Station and about eight hotel staff came out to see us off, bowing and waving as the bus left. This is customary in Japan, it makes you feel good , you feel your business has been appreciated.

This is a big hotel with 3 high rise building. Getting around needs careful navigation. The tatami bedroom is big and comfortable. The view from the room is great in the morning especially when there are different coloured trees on the opposite hill. The dining hall is a huge hall and the variety of food is adequate. We like the underground arcade and we played a car race game there. Well it is aged but it has its charm.

Old hotel. The food in buffet for dinner and breakfast are not impressing. Room size is very big (I reserved a 3 ppl room), and view was great. However, the water quality of hot spring is not good, too dirty. The layout design of the spa is also weird. I did not feel so comfortable. Generally speaking, service staffs is above average but the harwdware of the hotel do need some refurbishment.

When our Japanese friends recommended this hotel we were a bit sceptical because of the poor reviews. But we gave it a go and it was a good decision. This hotel is a superb value for money. Pros: great size rooms by Japanese standards (we had a Western-style room with beds), tea and coffee making facilities in rooms, very nice view from the windows (our room faced the river and the mountains, and nothing spoiled the view), comfortable beds with feather dawn blankets, excellent onsen with many indoor and one large outdoor pools and steam sauna, reasonable food selection for breakfast and dinner, very helpful and polite staff, free wi-fi in the lobby, free shuttle bus and etc. Cons: None, really. I understand why people said it needed a renovation, because the interior is a bit tired, but it was very clean and, honesty, we didn't care that much because of this. If you put some effort into it and learn a few Japanese phrases you will certainly feel how much your efforts are welcomed! Jozankei village itself is small but we enjoyed walking around it. They have a very nice suspension bridge with fantastic view down the river and a Buddhist temple with many Buddhas hidden in the cave. Jozankei dam is very much worth a visit, breathtaking structure. For active visitors there are walks and paths, one runs from the village to the dam and around, but it is quite uneven, so for the fit people probably. And - a lovely touch- there are small statures of Kappa (friendly onsen spirits) peppered around in various spots. I absolutely fell in love with them!

including dinner and breakfast., both buffets. they have buses loads of chinese tourists,in large dining hall u will see all of them,so food seems accommodating groups too-some chinese food.. 2 sets of onsens exchangable each night between men and ladies, one is great setting, one is so so, so if when you arrive, you used the so so one, make sure go back onsen again next morning, then you have a chance to experience the nicer one. this hotel is about 100 meters away from main road, and about 3 min walk to the bus stop from sapporo, the latest bus backto sapporo is 8pm, public bus is not very frequent, need take a photo of the bus shedule if come by bus;hotel is about 8-10min walk to the real small town, and 5 min walk to the little local park where you will find boiling onsen water for free foot bath. the town is very nice to wonder for about 1hour. onsen water here full of something local call them flowers which of cause not, rather look like dirty water, so lots signs telling you, it is just typical local onsen water which of cause at same time states it is good for your body and skin. you just have to believe and enjoy them. reception can speak little english, but not much, so prepare, don't ask too many questions.
