Stayed at this place as a quick stop over after arriving to Puerto Rico late. With that being said, it wasn't as bad as Juan's Guesthouse in Belize, but it was pretty damn close. Maybe it was an off night, but its pretty hard to ignore when your room smells like unwashed feet and the shower barely functions. Even if you only need a bed for the night, I would think twice before booking this place. Value For Money: 2.5/5 Security: 3/5 Location: 2/5 Facilities: 1/5 Staff: 3/5 Cleanliness: 2/5
The staff was very polite made my time here very enjoyable Aaron made sure I had everything I needed and even showed me around to the beach area and local tourist attractions it was my second time being a guest at this hostel an I highly recommend
This was the absolute best place I could have stayed while on my 10 day solo trip to Puerto Rico! Aeryn, Richard, Lucas, Estelle, Julia, Sussana, and the rest of the staff were super friendly & made the experience incredible, having daily activities together (both planned & unplanned, providing their knowledge of the area, and in general just making the entire trip one non-stop, fun and unique experience! Having all of these amazing staff members to meet & spend time with really made the experience seem authentic & I feel as though I wouldn't have wanted to stay anywhere else in San Juan! 10/10 would recommend Casa Santurce! You'll love it here!
I recently spent 10 days at Casa Santurce, and I could not have asked for a better experience! Aeryn, Estelle, Richard, Lukas, Sussana, Hugo, Julia, and all of the staff were all worked hard to make my experience in Puerto Rico the best possible! It was amazing to have Casa Santurce as a solo traveler, as I was able to meet a ton of people, the staff were insanely friendly, and there were daily/weekly activities for everyone to enjoy and take part in that really make you feel at home. Casa Santurce is the best way to get the real experience of what it's like to live in San Juan, and with such friendly, amazing people running it, this is definitely the place to stay! Definitely 10/10 would recommend!
I've spent about one week and a half at the Casa with a friend, and we had an amazing time. The location is great; it is just a small walk from everything you need (grocery store, beach and bars). The people is cleary what makes this place so special. The staff is super friendly, and makes you feel at home. We met a bunch of nice people. They offer daily and nightly free activities which is a great way to meet other travellers. Special mention to Estelle! She is such a sweetheart! I met her at the end of my trip, and we went out to La Placita for my last friday night.
We had a good time in this hostel. It is cosy and it is a good place to meet other travellers. Rooms, kitchen and bathroom are clean. The neighborhood is nice. Julia and Lukas contribute to the great atmosphere.
Great hostel! Nothing over the top fancy, but it is very clean and friendly and in an exciting part of town. Susanna was working when we were there, and she was both very kind and helpful. I have been to Puerto Rico twice and both times have spent a night or two here. Would definitely recommend for any young traveler(s) looking for an authentic hostel experience!
Stayed with friends there and his phone was stolen one morning from kitchen area and others staying there in all different rooms said that speakers and headphones among other things came up stolen from there things. Next morning I had a bag that was stolen that contained other items that are not replaceable. Management ignored us, said cameras that are there on site are not working (but you can see them working in office). Not to mention that someone else staying at the hostel was robbed at gun point one evening less then one block from hostel and workers sat in back offering no help or even first aid kit. Others staying at hostel had to help and call police and ambulance for the injured people
Left my phone out on a table in the kitchen in front of one of their security cameras and it got stolen, mysteriously/conveniently they were offline even though when you looked at the screne in the office they didnt appear to be. I recieved little help or concern from management in response to the theft. Also several other people had items stolen from their rooms, and we asked them to change the room codes and they wouldnt, seemed like an inside job to me. Then later that night 2 people 15ft behind me on the street were mugged at gunpoint and pistol whipped. We received ZERO help or concern from management about this issue! ZERO! Aleyia(and i hope im spelling that right) was fantastic and really tried to help she gets a 10/10. Im not trying to bad mouth this place ive had good experiences here but the lack of concern about security by those who manage and own the property was not great. I left feeling worried about my safety and personal belongings. Just something to keep in mind when choosing this hostel.
Reserved March 3-7th, 2019. First night saw a few bugs, no huge deal. Didn't sleep well, woke to 20-30 live bugs in our room when we turned the lights on. I had a dozen bites. Yvette, the manager, was notified and I showed her a few dead bugs we caught. She offered another room but there was no way we were staying-we watched them crawl under the walls. Turns out they spray the rooms the first of every month-which was 2 days prior. They claim the bugs CAN'T and DON'T bite. Research says they do if there's an infestation. Anyway, she said she understood and would get a refund authorized by the end of the day. No response. I text her. No response. March 5th I get a lengthy email saying there would be no refund. I communicated I would be reporting them to Better Business Bureau, etc. Yvette said they would authorize a refund on the unused nights. No refund ever showed. I 'bugged' her again on March 9th. No response. March 14th they finally start the refund process. Not only did we have the headache of being without a place for the day until the next check in, we also had to deal with terrible customer service, be aggressive with them to have a so-so outcome and follow up multiple times because they didn't do what they said they'd do. Never again. The toxic spraying alone would have deterred me had I known.
