Nice old building providing very basic accommodation and breakfast. Doors and windows open onto central atrium, covered in with glass so not much light in the rooms and no window to open. Really good air-conditioning and fluffy blanket for night so a really good night's sleep. Bathroom in need of renovation and a bit drain smelly. Curtains shabby and threadbare. Bar closed. WiFi sporadic Reception very helpful. Breakfast staff cheery and friendly. Had choices of two cereals, eggs, toast, jam, butter, fresh fruit, juice, tea, coffee. Adequate. I was itching to get rid of all the dusty old plastic plants, dead plants, dated faded drapes, dirty stained sofas in the atrium. The place could certainly do with a face lift! Pity as it could be so much better.
We got struck in San Jose because of multiple instances of truly bad advice from the hordes of desperate cab drivers in this city. Ultimately a cab driver took us to the inca real. The guy behind the counter did the minimal amount of work to get us our room and went right back to playing on his phone. The bathroom floor was slimey and the walls were moldy. No hot water. No windows to the outside. Crusty Fear inspiring sheets. But we were treated to loud insipid Costa Rican pop music until shift change around 10:00. They night shift guy was able to shut the glass door to the front desk. It was the only instance of what might be considered a service oriented activity.
On my arrival the first night it was great but when i got to the room i look first the toilet was so dirty with mold in the wall the room smelled real stink, i have to change for another one, the next day i went to have breakfast the lady in the kitchen was very rude nothing there to eat only one things they have black beans and rice and eggs the sink from the kitchen was so dirty i dont even eat they food, they have the radio so loud all the time, the front desk only have one friendly person, roach all over the room at night time, the girl who is clean she is so desesperate to come in to the room in the morning all of them talk loudly this place definitely need updating to received guess it not recommended to any person who come to visit costa rica they have so many nice around this area to stay but not Inca Real hotel, their sheets was so dirty i had to put my T-shirt ontop their pillow to sleep at nite time their wall look like the zoológico they need updating this place They dont offer portable water they said we need to drink water from the sink where you brush your teeth NOT RECOMMEND FOR GUESST
We stayed for one night only at the hotel, the reception service was good it was an easy checked in. The rooms are nice and comfortable, small but ok. Clean room but can improve for example pillows. This is not a hotel un which you can sleep till late, during morning there is a lot of noise, all hotel employees speak lound to each other and listen to music. Cleaning ladies seem to be desperate to get into the room no matter the check out time is at noon. We went to the restaurant to eat included breakfast that was open till 9, we arrived at 9:05 and the waitress claimed that breakfast wasn't available without even try to help, the waitress had the worse attitude not appropiate for a restaurant she might consider other job. Overall the hotel that was ok for 1 night but will not visit it again in the future due to the bad customer service experienced
Rooms were dirty, mold in shower, bathroom smelled. When you walk on the floor barefooted, the bottoms of your feet turn black from the dirtiness. For breakfast they fry you an egg to eat with toast (cereal is also available). On our last day, we saw a roach on top of the table. It is a quaint place, but needs lots of attention and updating. The area looks rough, but is actually quite safe. We walked to and from downtown everyday, and after dark and never had problems.
Upon arrival to this hotel the area we had to drive through was terrifying. But I continue on once there several problems 1. My confirmation says refrigerator yep u guess it no refrigerator 2. My confirmation says air conditioning yup u guess it no air conditioner just a ceiling fan too small for the room. 3. No windows in the room except to the foyer which were super thin you can hear everything 4. My confirmation says in room coffee pot yup u guess it no coffee pot. 5. The room is dark and dingy 6. Smell like mold. Due to the fact that my husband has asthma I check out and booked at a different Hotel we lasted 15 min there
The property itself was so, so. Rooms were a decent sized and decently clean - did not notice any mold/mildew. The location was not close to any bus routes and was inconvenient from the major attractions in San Jose. Sketchy neighborhood to walk around in night also. It was a relatively quiet location for San Jose, sleep was not interrupted, which was a plus.
The rooms were halfway between a hostel and a hotel. Atrium was impressive but the rooms were in need of renovation. We arrived in the middle of the night and spent 15 anxious minutes trying to get the 24 hour receptionist to wake up. Having just passed groups of wasted people stumbling about in a nearby street, I was in bits. We eventually woke him up and got inside. The breakfast was basic and without notice, the start time changed by 30 mins the second day. You can stay at the newly renovated Taormina hotel two doors down for around the same price. There you gain the brand new, spotless experience but lose the colonial atmosphere of Inca Real.
We were also travelling with Intrepid and many of our fellow travellers had issues with their rooms. Our room on the ground floor wasn't too bad but it was very dark and we had read other reviews so were not expecting too much. We didn't have any issues with the staff or noise but overall it is looking a bit scruffy and there is room for lots of improvement.
This is easily the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. Also on an Intrepid tour and this was our last stop. We all arrived late and ready to hop into bed, however the hotel was not organised at all (had no idea who was going on what room etc) when we eventually got to our rooms some were not even cleaned, dirty sheets on the bed, damp towels scrunched up on the floor. First impression of my room wasn't too bad...until I hopped in the shower. No hot water (which I was fine with considering travelled Central America) but the shower was filthy. The shower curtain was completely covered in mould as well as the walls. We then gathered in the foyer to say our goodbyes and got rudely asked to leave and to be quiet by the hotel staff (only 9.30) The next morning was ridiculous. Starting at 6am I had staff continuously come to my room and knock on my door. If I did not answer they would let themselves in and wake me up!. I had about 8 staff in total do this, and all were very rude. They were trying to give me someone's clean washing, but as I continue to tell them it's not mine they got progressively ruder. After the 8 visitors I locked my door with the chain so they could no longer let them selves in...so they started calling my room phone!!! I then got mugged by a taxi driver in the day so I have come back and asked for directions to the police station..in which I was directed 6 blocks in the wrong direction! (If you don't know where something is just say so!) Morning two was as bad as the first. The hotel staff were out at 6am again, there was 5 or 6 of them in the hotel. They would just shout at each other from different spots in the hotel, one upstairs, one downstairs, one in a room. This continued for an hour and a half until I got up and told them to be quiet. They just gave me a dirty look, and were back at it within 5 minutes. I am aware this is a basic hotel, however there is no excuse for such poor service. Do not stay if you like your sleep!! Pay a little extra and stay somewhere else. This is also located down town and is not a nice area at all. You cannot walk on your own or even in a group once it starts getting darker. If you are locked in here for Intrepid I wish you good luck and perhaps don't stay two nights! If you get offered room 9 or 11 ask to be swapped immediately. These are corner rooms with no window. The door is half grills and you will get eaten alive by mosquitoes as well as noise being an even big factor! Room 9 is next to the public bathroom and you can hear everything! Overall wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. Even if you are on a budget. It's nice from the outside and the foyer is nice but that's all. It's noisy, staff are rude, it's in a terrible area, the rooms are filthy, and you can get something much nicer for not a lot more!
