We went to this hotel on the last night of our Costa Rica trip because we were flying out first thing the next morning. The view from our fifth floor room was absolutely spectacular. The welcome drinks were also really delicious; we had mojitos, which were perfect. The front desk also gave us a great dinner recommendation which was Le Monestere which had even better views of the city. Overall, the hotel was great and very comfortable!
I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel for 4 nights in September 2019 with friends. The hotel itself is absolutely breathtaking, if you like a vintage, chic vibe. N.B. not all rooms (like my room #43 come with air conditioning, but that was not an issue because it so cool throughout the day. The restaurant on property has great food at a fair price for a hotel. The spa offerings were a bit pricey but to each his own. The pool area was always clean, with fresh towels readily available. For the most part, the staff was very friendly, with the exception of upper management and one of the front desk guys (the one with glasses). The other front desk guy (Daniel) was phenomenal and I greatly enjoyed interacting with him. There was one sour note during our stay at Alta. On the evening of our 3rd night, items from our rooms were stolen. Not misplaced, but STOLEN. The hotel management give us the bs run around for the rest of our stay, finally telling us via email right AFTER we checked out that the camera showed no one entered our room and it was our responsibility for not utilizing the safe. First of all, the safe could not fit all of our valuables as it was so small, and so a few items had to remain out in the room. Secondly, I have since TWICE requested the footage during the time of the incident, with NO response from management. Why they didn’t show us the footage while we were on the property baffles me, probably because there is no actual footage. It's been two weeks since my stay, with no word or follow up from management. TERRIBLE handling of the situation. While the hotel itself is beautiful, I would not stay here again. But if you do, bring padlocks to lock your suitcases since everything won’t be able to fit in the safe and take photos every time you leave the room.
the rooms overlook the city from up in the quiet hills of santa ana. its a hipster boutique hotel . it has an outside pool , la Luz their restaurant and great design. but above all their staff are helpful. best i've had. when in this part of the country we stay here year in year out. but you have to kie stairs as they have them at least when going to La luz but there is an elevator to reduce the flights
This was my second stay at The Alta, having stayed here quite a few years ago.Checked out today, after 5 days. It's a beautiful, charming, boutique hotel. Each room has a balcony, overlooking the Central Valley.I had a regular room, but there are suites as well.Hotel was nice and quiet,There is a nice pool, with lounge chairs and umbrellas.Staff were all friendly and helpfull.Breakfast was included, fresh fruit, pastry, granola, yogurt and really good coffee.I used Uber to get around, lots of good restaurants in Escazu and SantaAna,and Uber is cheaper than taxis(my opinion). If you like a smaller, charming hotel, definitely recommend
We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights and thought the rooms were fairly average and the food was very disappointing. The keys to open the rooms were especially difficult to use and we found ourselves spending time trying to lock them. The location of the hotel is also not great if you are planning on doing excursions in and around San José and therefore we spent a lot of time on buses traveling to and fro. The menu has few options especially for a vegetarian and we were very disappointed by the quality of food we received however, there are no alternative restaurants within walking distance as far as we could see. We were never able to have breakfast at the hotel because of the early starts due to the location of the hotel. On the last day we requested boxed breakfasts but were disappointed to find that this request was not met and so we did not get breakfast.
We stayed for our first 4 nights in Costa Rica. We were really excited about staying in a small boutique hotel but sadly this hotel did not live up to our expectations. Firstly we were told this hotel was well placed for the excursions that we were doing over 3 days. Wrong! The location is definitely on the wrong side of town as every day we were FIRST pick up for the tours which was either 5.20 to 6am. We then had 1-2 hours on the bus pick up route as we went around so many hotels picking up other tourists who had enjoyed a extra hour in bed and of course breakfast. Sadly breakfast in our hotel did not start until 6.30 and we weren’t told until the penultimate day that we could order breakfast to take out but when we did this somehow they missed our order so we never had breakfast despite it being included. Of course this also meant that we were last drop off and because of the location on the wrong side of town this meant that we were a further 30 minutes after the penultimate drop off. This made for very long days. Also there is very little around the hotel (unlike the others we saw on the hotel tours!). We ate in our hotel for a couple of nights but found the food was very very average and the menu had limited choice. In the end we took taxis to get to some civilisation, shops and restaurants. I’m still not sure why our tour operator put us here as we were told there were few high quality hotels around San Jose which we now know is not true. However if you are using a hotel as a base for tours outside of San Jose I would strongly recommend the other side of town to save yourself the joys of lengthy coach journeys through the heavy San Jose traffic.
Our first night on our first trip to Costa Rica we stayed at hotel Alta. Couldn’t imagine a nicer place to arrive at! Gorgeous room with a stunning bathroom and amazing balcony overlooking the gardens and city. Food in the hotel was nice, breakfast in particular was delicious. It was a shame we only had 1 night here, would definitely recommend!
So we stayed here the last night of our honeymoon and it is indeed a beautiful hotel and view at first. The staff was luke warm and didnt come off super friendly, they did send up some complimentary treats for our honeymoon which were amazing, but when i asked what they were the girl chuckled and walked away. We had a master suite and the bathroom was great. Water pressure was alright, but the shower hot and cold was one extreme or the other for the most part. The bed was practically like sleeping on a hard box, the only part i really didnt like. We went to the pool and hot tub, but couldnt find the button for the hot tub jets. We asked a gentleman in the bar area and he said the pool and hot tub werent heated...soooo theres that. Breakfast was again alright, had we had more time, probably would have gone somewhere else. But overall for a nights stay, could have been worse.
I was on my way from the SJO airport to Playa Herradura and wanted to spend one evening in the Central Valley. I chose Alta Las Palomas mainly based on Trip Advisor reviews. I was not disappointed. Check in was quick and painless though I found the afternoon check in woman somewhat aloof and condescending - certainly in no mood to be engaging. Maybe just a bad day for her. This was in contrast to a very friendly blond server in the restaurant that came to my aid seeing I was lost in finding the stairs to my room. Not only did she show me to my room but helped me with the luggage. I regret not getting a chance to thank her with an extra gratuity at dinner but she was not working as she thought she might have been. It was very quiet after all with only three tables occupied. The room (34) was nice, large enough with a good sized bathroom. I called in advance to make sure I got a balcony with a view as this made the stay for me. There is a beautiful view of the Central valley and the pool area. The food at the restaurant lives up to its reputation. Both dinner and breakfast was superb as was the service. Estaban is the morning person at the front. He was very nice and engaging and was able to fill me in on some of the history of the hotel and the area. I walked around all the grounds to try and find Alta the cat but to no avail on this visit. Overall great spot.
I recently traveled to Costa Rica for the first time and I had an amazing experience. My group stayed at the beautiful Hotel Alta Las Palomas. The location is not too far from downtown. The general area is upscale and safe. The staff that worked there we grew very fond of and got to know better since we went during Holy Week and a lot of people were away. The front desk was very helpful in getting our group cabs or ride-shares. The house coffee was sensationally addicting and is nothing like what we get in the United States. The library area was my favorite personal spot. The restaurant staff was excellent and the food was very good in which included traditional Costa Rican dishes. Cristina was astounding and her professionalism in the restaurant was remarkable. Here are just a few pointers for management 1. Install wifi extenders or pods throughout the hotel to get better signals 2. Setup portable DynaTraps for the mosquitos near the pool area. 3. Vending machines that sell medicine including repellant or benadryl for bites Other than those three items, we had a fantastic experience because of management and the hotel staff. Thank you!
