Hotel Carlton was nicely kept and easy to like. Lobby was nice for catching up with colleagues and restaurant on site did a nice breakfast. Overall I would go back.

The hotel was wonderful. Loved the decor, the helpful staff , the wine reception, the food and all.

- Decent hotel with an old style look and feel. If you like that kind of look, you would find it charming. - Not in any of the better parts of downtown - No air condition in any of the rooms - Sound isolation is poor. You can hear everything from the corridor - Parking is valet only at $40 per night. Street parking or parking structures are preferable. - Spring bed was not comfortable

I loved the hospitality with the complementary wine hour and awesome DJ at the Lobby Saturday night.

Hotel staff was great, room was nice , but Location wasn't ideal

Hotel Carlton was a nice hotel: clean, quirky, well-located and comfortable. As it is in the "Tender Nob" (Tenderloin/Nob Hill), there were some interesting things happening right outside the hotel: a girl rave dancing in her pajamas one afternoon and multiple fights in the middle of the night. No one bothered me and I never felt unsafe. Just be prepared to encounter all kinds of people when you stay here. My room was clean and comfortable. I slept well in the bed and enjoyed a nice, hot shower every morning. Hotel Happy Hour (free!) was amazing--a great perk. Overall, I had a nice stay at Hotel Carlton. I would consider staying here again, but might opt for a quieter neighborhood next time.

Every interaction I have had with the staff has been incredible (and my stay was for 8 nights). I have the most positive impression of the hotel and would not hesitate to stay again. The walls are thin and you can easily listen in on your neighbors, but the amenities of the hotel outweigh that aspect (it's an old building, what can you do). I love that every other floor has purified alkaline water machines and each room has glasses and pitchers so that you have an unlimited, endless supply of delicious drinking water. I love the wine receptions with live music/DJs. I love the location, very close to the best bars, bakeries, and restaurants.

I've stayed here back to back years. There's not much they can do about this but the walls of the old building are paper thin. The doors are slamming all night and you can hear every conversation in the room next to you. If you plan to be in bed before midnight I'd pick a different hotel.

Staff was friendly, helpful, responsive, Will come back

This hotel is centrally located--it's within easy walking distance to so many places. The staff is wonderful--we arrived just after the free wine hour ended but they still hooked us up. My only real complaint is that our room seemed to be located outside of the cleaning station and every morning starting at 7am we were awakened by very loud conversations.

My room was in the 9th floor. Spacious and had a good view of the city. Stayed there for 5 nights in mid April for a conference. Every thing was well organized. The towels and bed sheets were clean and overall the room looked nice and comfortable. If you're not sensitive to noise from other rooms, this hotel is a good option.

Great Boutique Hotel, friendly staff, love the wine reception. Close walk to Union Square.

very good service, bed is very comfortable, internet speed is extremely fast

The lobby is newly remodeled and very appealing, with middle eastern touches but not over the top. The room is not large but very nice. The bed was very comfortable and. The bathroom is workable. Our room was on Sutter St, so I was concerned with noise, but it was not a problem. The wine hour and musical entertainment are a lovely touch I would recommend they improve the wine a bit for those of us more familiar with wine. The staff is so personable and helpful. Location is good, as long as you don't mind catching a ride to other locales. Good bar next door, with bar/pub food and good cocktails and beer on draft. We will definitely stay here again.

I was in SF for four days at a conference and this hotel was a 20 min. walk. The room I was in was quiet, upgraded and comfortable. Staff were friendly and there was an opportunity to meet other guests at the 5:30 cocktail hour in the lobby. If I return to SF, I would have no hesitation to book this hotel again. Excellent value.

I love Carlton. Their staff is friendly, and their rooms are tastefully colorful and cozy. They are on the small side (especially for 2 people), but the decor, especially the ceiling fan and the window treatment, make them feel roomier than they are. Close to the Union Square, Nob Hill, Japantown, and Chinatown, all within a walking distance. Saha restaurant (Yemeni) in the hotel is something I always look forward to, too.

It is one of the best locations in the city. Close to all major bus lines. and a great walking distance to all city center arts events. AWESOME staff at the desk. The Hotel it self reminds me of old Europe charm. The lobby could stand in for a 40's to late 50's movie set. They have a awesome wine tasting Happy Hour It is worth taking the time to sit in the lobby exchange conversation with other hotel guest enjoying a glass of top rate wines. and it's free!!! WOW!!!!. To all the staff.at this remarkable hotel my sincere thank you. Good Job. Michael

Staff was very cordial and helpful. Gave good recommendations for getting around & places to see & eat.

Hotel Carlton is a perfectly nice place to stay with terrifically appointed rooms and a great staff, incredibly gracious and helpful. The hotel is an old building updated with modern features and feel without losing all the old charm. I would have liked if the room door and adjoining doors (where suites can be opened) had a seal at the bottom to reduce noise and light. The bed was perfect, and it's one of the best hotel beds I've slept on. While I came during a busy week and San Francisco is an expensive town to stay in, the hotel's price does seem expensive for one that's not downtown. But it's walkable to all attractions and very close to Japantown.

Was great for Enjoy SF The room was clean and perfect only a little noisy because was a conected room, i didnt try breakfast was it full With amazing places around The área
