I enjoyed the hotel, had a nice dinner at the Hope restaurant. Great location. Easy drive to many restaurants, movie theatre, Balboa Park and many San Diego neighborhood. I didn’t not like that the walls are thin, was woken up at 1pm with loud music and girls talking loud from the room next to me. Had to call front desk twice but security took care of it. Second night no noise problems. Pillows not the most comfortable.

Upon check-in, we were “upgraded” to a family suite which we did not want & felt forced to accept. Terrible lighting & rusted fixtures in the room were not hip or stylish as this hotel is trying to be. One regular coffee pod was available for two people. The small fridge and piece of furniture that acted as a coffee station were janky and looked as if they were found on the street. Bed & pillows were mediocre. Bedroom was adequate. All of this would be almost acceptable if the rate was far less than $179/night (more than $200 w/tax & fees). The lobby & pool area were the only attractive parts of this hotel. Really disappointing and WAY overpriced.

Very nice historic hotel. My only comment is that there are no refrigerators in the rooms, which is kind of a drag.

Atmosphere of hotel nice. check in was terrible system down, double charged twice for check in still waiting for charge to come off and our room keys wouldn’t work on all the gates had to keep going to desk to reset. Then they gave someone keys to our room they walked in. Really cool old place but they need to get it together. Housekeeping did a great job. Pool heater didn’t work after 1st day. Had someone in working on lights around pool. Food at restaurant good. Pool side room nice but don’t expect for it to be quiet music by pool plays till late. Plus they were working on room above us early am . We will go back but get it with group on for what we paid it was disappointing.

Nice place and in a good location. Only real issue was that the AC unit was a bit loud.

My family loved this hotel. The room was spacious, the decor was gorgeous, and the pool was amazing. My only complaint was the WiFi sucked. But I wasn’t there to use WiFi, I was there to have fun. We did!

The elevator smells. Overall good renovation, bathrooms need updating.

The hotel staff is excellent and the pool is beautiful - however, we did rent a two-bedroom bungalow and unfortunately were placed next to a bungalow that had a loud party going on at night - this prevented me from getting any sleep at all - the bungalow was very cute but has no sound proofing

Room was very run down and the room was very noisy. We could hear door opening to the room next door and it sounded like it was our room.

Overall it was a nice stay and close to Hillcrest with a 24 hr Fitness up the way. The atmosphere is clean and soothing music. They gave me a room close to the lobby and next to the outside gigantic chess game lounge so it was a little noisy if you wanted to take a nap otherwise it was quiet at night.

Was nicely surprised at the hotel. It was something out of the ordinary. had an old charm of the 30s and 40s and 50s but with modern amenities. clean, comfortable with pleasant staff.

Going back to 40'S GREAT HOTEL good staff and the food very good

We have stayed at The Lafayette Hotel many times and love it for it's vintage charm. The rooms are comfortable and the decor and ambience bring back the 1940's. In addition the bar and restaurant are excellent for an evening highball or a great morning breakfast. The lobby area (large) and pool area are really charming and delightful. The rooms themselves are very nice, although the bathrooms, though clean and fine, are a bit tired and could use some updating. Nevertheless we always stay here because it is well located and has character, something lacking in the mostly sterile hotels elsewhere in San Diego. plus the stay is very helpful and friendly.

Probably doesn't help that there was a wedding going on with attendees partying a couple of doors down, but even ignoring this, it was a unpleasant stay. Hotel staff starts cleaning rooms at like 7am so if you're planning on sleeping in, good luck with that. Our room was facing the street so you've got traffic noise and every now and then sirens from emergency vehicles passing by all night. Walls were paper thin so you're going to hear your neighbors. I would not recommend this hotel.

The room overlooked the road in the back which was under construction - so a lot of street noise. The room itself was "back wards". The king bed was next to the front door while the "bunk bed" and table were in the back. It seems that this layout should be reversed. The table and chairs were incredibly uncomfortable (1950's chrome frames with Naugahyde covers) and tacky. The bathrooms need to be remodeled but the water pressure was the best we had on our So. Cal trip. Of course, the very large and dead cockroach in the bathroom when we arrived, did not set a good tone for our stay. Considering that the price was similar to the downtown hotels, I would suggest going to a different location. All this, and they charged for parking...

If your looking for a place to party, get drunk and enjoy a pool...your're gonna love it. If you're looking for a family friendly hotel this is not it. Do not let the bunk beds fool you. Think they are more for the 20 something's to split the cost of a room. Very disappointing. Beds were comfortable that was the only positive i can give this place. When a security guard (yes they have them for their "pool parties", which right there should tell you something) told us to get to the pool earlier for a seat we explained the seats weren't a problem it had more to do with not wanting our 6 year old around that kind of scene, he replied "well this isn't a Motel 6". Yep this place is worse. We could not wait to leave this place. Save yourself the headache and stay anywhere else. For me and my family the Coronado Lowes is at the top of our favorites for a vacation in San Diego.
