If your looking for a place to party, get drunk and enjoy a pool...your're gonna love it. If you're looking for a family friendly hotel this is not it. Do not let the bunk beds fool you. Think they are more for the 20 something's to split the cost of a room. Very disappointing. Beds were comfortable that was the only positive i can give this place. When a security guard (yes they have them for their "pool parties", which right there should tell you something) told us to get to the pool earlier for a seat we explained the seats weren't a problem it had more to do with not wanting our 6 year old around that kind of scene, he replied "well this isn't a Motel 6". Yep this place is worse. We could not wait to leave this place. Save yourself the headache and stay anywhere else. For me and my family the Coronado Lowes is at the top of our favorites for a vacation in San Diego.

Hotel was cute and interesting, you feel like your stepping into a very retro chic pool club when entering the lobby. Was a bit disappointed that we were informed by the front desk upon arrival that they haven't had roll out beds for 10 years, as we chose a room with one king for me, husband and 3-year old. Other complaints: drain in tub didn't drain, so we had to use my razor as a prop to keep the tub from filling up in the shower. Our room was 102, and the dumpsters were right outside of our room which was very noisy. Breakfast was ok. The pool looked nice but we didn't have a chance to swim as we packed our visit with lots of activities. Location was good and we easily used Lyft to get to Old Town, downtown, SeaWorld, Legoland, train, and Zoo.

Great historic hotel with a vintage 40s- 50s Hollywood feel. Rooms are a bit outdated and bathrooms small, but that is part of the charm. Pool parties on weekends are very lively, but definitely a 20-30 year old scene.

Nice hotel, huge rooms. The down sides are that you have to pay for parking ($12/day) and no breakfast is available except in the restaurant which is expensive.

I loved this hotel and would recommend to anyone who wants a real California experience. It had an old Hollywood feel, and the pool is extremely social (great for young people and kids as it is lively). Also located about 10 minutes (no traffic) from the beach, zoo, sea world. Thanks for the great stay!

Fun hotel in a good location! Would stay here again.

Clerks were a bit rude. Be careful when you pay. Check your statement carefully.overcharged me for 1 night stay.

The staff is always friendly and the place is spotless. It's a older hotel but in incredible shape and it embraces it's old school charm .

Check-in went great. Staff was very helpful. Room, however was very disappointing. Old and rundown, smelled musty, very uncomfortable bed. We left after the first night and booked somewhere else.

we stayed 4 nights --spring for an inside room much quieter than the rooms we had on street in front of hotel--I would stay at hotel again--just go for upstairs on the pool---bar and restaurant onsite

This is a landmark hotel that has been well kept and updated with a modern facelift. The facility itself is nice and the rooms are clean and well maintained. There were definitely a few things that I felt were missing for an upscale hotel. There is no valet or bellhop so be prepared to drive around the block to park your car and use one of their small luggage carts in the small elevator (God forbid your room is on the first floor because you'll have to figure out how to get your luggage cart up 5 steps from the over-fragranced lobby). The restaraunt and pool area are nice, but there is no poolside service for food or drinks and the staff, while friendly, don't seem to be very accommodating. I had a great stay with family, but overall expected a little more service-wise. A tip, the adjoining steak house is not worth the prices. Venture into Northpark to get your food.

Kids loved the heated pool, and the room was very spacious.

The hotel was clean and staff was amazing!! Catered to all of our needs :). I will deffently stay here again.

We rented a suite and were very happy with our accommodations. The rooms were spacious and clean. The lobby has a fun atmosphere, and the pool is something to see.

Up side: Nice pool, great for families with children. Pool side you can sit by your room and watch children in the pool. Hotel near Balboa Park and Zoo. Down side: Rooms old and poor insulation sound an issue. Beds uncomfortable, only one chair in room. Lots on extension cords for electric. Toilet extremely loud. Not close to downtown or harbor area. It's a Historic Hotel and like what you might expect in the 50ties. Nice atmosphere but rooms need modernizing.

The room was lovely and overlooked the pool. It had a darling patio with 2 chairs. The hotel is darling- very vintage-ee. The bed was comfortable and room clean. The room was on second floor and did not have an elevator. Lugging the luggage up the stairs was not easy but doable. We had an issue with getting charged for an upsale that we did not take. We are still waiting for these charges to come off our VISA. I'm sure it will be taken care of and I'm sure it was an honest mistake. The location was excellent in terms of being close to great places to eat and near freeways.

An older hotel that is 'one of a kind'. The rooms are nice and updated. The hotel feels warm and comfortable not cold or austere. We enjoyed the restaurant's menu and excellent food preparation, underground parking and location within walking distance to North Park. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Overall a pleasant experience.

My stay was only two nights. It rained the whole time we were there. But the room was very clean. Nice queen size bed and bunkbeds for my son. No Continental breakfast but they have two restaurants in the hotel. Dennys was walking distance. Overall my stay was great.

While not 'close' to anything at least by foot, hotel is retro cool and staff is friendly --restaurant is good and pool is heated which was much needed on my December bisit when it went down to 35 degrees in Sunny and warm San Diego

I needed a hotel when I booked my tickets to San Diego. When the list of hotels came up; I noticed this hotel and it stated "downtown." So I read the reviews and the history and I was drawn to it. Well, first it was not downtown; it was in North Park; north of downtown. The hotel was built in 1946. Still a nice place with nice staff and service. They had a lot going on and it made for a great visit! Love it!

This is what it really looks like. Filthy windows with spiders. Carpet is old and looks filthy. Cracked tiles and light switch covers.
