I apologise for writing it so delayed. I visited holiday inn during the month of April 2016. I am highly impressed by the service staff in the restaurant who did serve 40 pple on an à la carte basis without any fault. ...sorry for not remembering your names. .. great job team. . Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a get together in salsburg. ..
We stayed here late November at the start of the Christmas markets. We couldn't really fault it. We had a room looking up to the mountains which was very clean and quiet and well maintained during our 3 day stay. It is within walking distance of the main town and railway station. The staff were very friendly and every one of them spoke English which really puts us to shame! The dining room was clean and spacious and breakfast had just about anything on offer you might want to eat. Will definitely stay here again if we visit Salzburg.
We stayed three nights here during New Year's. Price was higher than what I normally pay at any HI, most likely due to it being a holiday. The good points: close enough walk from train station (about 15 minutes), close enough walk to city center (another 15 minutes), very nice staff. Towels a bit thin but big enough. Beds were comfortable and our room had a view of the street and the side of the closest berg - sort of facing towards city center but not able to see it. I think the Mercure across the street might have a better view (it blocked ours). We stayed in room 401. Now for the concerns: Sink in room cracked. Two very large noticeable stains on carpet. Door to bathroom has lost some screws, but instead of fixing it, scotch tape was used (ineffectively). Wifi first night was horrible, and we couldn't connect. I called downstairs and the receptionist mentioned something about resetting the router. Didn't work. Frustrated, I went to bed. The next morning, same thing. So I unplugged the connection in the room (see photo - it says to not disconnect it) and plugged it back in. This worked sort-of, but if I moved from the window to my bed it would disconnect. I had to keep doing this about a dozen times, but somewhere along the line either what I was doing or the router was actually reset at the desk downstairs, because we were fine the last two nights. We spent the entire last day walking about town and got back to the hotel about 3 pm and our room was not cleaned. So I went to desk, asked for it to be cleaned, and within 5 minutes housekeeping arrived. She cleaned, emptied trash, straightened beds, etc. while we were sitting there. Concerns: the glasses, coffee mugs and spoons were all washed out in the bathroom sink. Don't know what she used to dry them, but we made sure that we re-washed them before use (unfortunately we didn't know this the first two nights). The table in the room needed cleaning and she used a wet Kleenex. Not so sure about that method. They need a better translator, as the English sign in the lift had breakfast hours listed for pm, but most likely anyone reading it would assume that they don't serve breakfast at night. I am a loyal HI lodger, have a rewards account that has given me a higher status. My general expectations for any HI are to not expect much more than a good, comfortable room, good service from staff and a decent price. Most HI hotels are cookie-cutter in style and design. Knowing what I know about this hotel, I would stay here again for the convenience, and assume that the price would be lower for a non-holiday time stay. But I would definitely wash out all dishes and most likely pack some Lysol wipes and do a little cleaning on my own.
We stayed in the hotel in December 2016 during oyr honeymoon. Certainly we did the right choose, we liked everything, the room, the stuff, the view from hotel to the mountain was anazing. Additionally I would like to thank the administration for a surprize of fruit busket in the room. The breakfast was excellent, all sightseeing were foodstep close. We will certainly stay in this hotel while next time visiting Salzburg. I can recommend the hotel for both family stay and on business issues.
I am an IHG rewards card holder, stay in Holiday Inns all year round with business. This was for a romantic getaway however we were left disappointed. - Upon arrival we were told incorrect breakfast times despite checking 3 or 4 times. We missed breakfast the first day. - The bathroom had a foul smell. We were denied to be moved to another room. - Our room was not serviced until the third night, despite contact at reception. - When the room was serviced no toiletries/ towels were replaced/Tea not replaced/ mugs not replaced. - When trying to grab a quite bite of food at the hotel: The barman was rude and told us the restaurant closed an hour ago, despite us being an hour earlier than all hotel documentation listed. He did not help find another solution. No one was at check in to help. Thankfully the 'Mercur Hotel' over the road had friendly staff that suggested various places based on what we fancied. We tried to check into this hotel for the remainder of the stay but they were fully booked. Upon check out all this information was relayed to the management. A £850+ stay was compensated with.... A free pizza. Not acceptable. If you want to be in this area I can only suggest to book over the road at the Mercur Hotel.
We planned our Christmas holiday in Austria, and this is our first city started with. The hotel was good, room is clean and hotel stuffs are very friendly, helpful and serve with a smile. Heater working great, so don't worry about it even outside is very cold. Still, there're 2 factors need to consider if you want to choose this hotel. Location: It's quite far away from the attraction. 15-20 mins walk dist. from Train Station; 20-25 mins walk dist. from old town. If want to go old town by bus, you can get bus #2 at Sterneckstraße to Mirabellplatz then change other line to Hanusch-Platz. Or, you can get bus #4 at Grillparzerstraße, Schallmooser Hauptstraße, it will direct go to Hanusch-Platz. BTW, bus #2 can reach airport and train station too. Restaurants: Look at the google map then you will know there're only several choice for you to choose near the hotel. For our case is even worst, because most of the restaurant are closed during this holiday season, so it takes us some times to search for the food.
The room would not cool off, even if we left the window open and its 20 degrees F outside. The bed was hard as a rock. The housekeeping staff did the bare minimum and didn't even vacuum for several days. The complimentary drinks left in the room were already open when we arrived. Also, if you're a big hairy white man and you work at the front desk - wear and undershirt so we don't see everything through the thin white dress shirt.
We visited Salzburg in October 2016. This is not a typical holiday inn ! Hotel foyer is lovely, staff are very pleasant (especially the young man who served at bar and also restaurant). The reception area offered fresh fruit and fresh water. We had a hill view on 4th floor. The room was lovely and clean. We had dinner in the restaurant one night but sadly didn't enjoy (sorry). A 10-15 minute walk from the mirabell Gardens. Definitely recommend.
(Note: I am an IHG Spire Member and I am basing my reviews on my collective experiences of other IHG and non-IHG properties I have stayed in) Why Thumbs down? 1) Spire Elite benefits not honored: No room upgrade, no water bottles in the room, etc. 2) Lack of facilities associated w/ HI: No gym and no business center 3) Location: the hotel is quite isolated from old town Salzburg. It's a good 20-25 minute walk to old town. There are no nearby restaurants and other points of interest are quite far away 4) Rooms: I was give room 303. Other reviews have already touched on the subject but I'm afraid I must emphasize it once again. The rooms facing the road are noisy! Plus if you get a room facing the room, you're really quite exposed to the outside. People from the street and the buildings across can see right in to ones room. 5) amenities lacking: amenities like shampoos, lotion were initially provided but not re supplied throughout my 4 day stay. I seriously think the property should be rebranded as an HI Express. It's certainly NOT 4 star. 2-3 star maybe
