The first trick for us when we arrived was figuring out where we could pull our car up to unload. After a couple of tries we figured it out and got checked in. This is a really nice, charming hotel. We got checked in and up to our room, which was absolutely huge. Very quirky room, in a good way. We actually had skylights! Funny story though, I actually checked with the person at reception to make sure that what was on the walls was intended to be there (it was the art, but could have been confused for someone having scribbled on the wall ;-) )There was art everywhere we looked in this hotel, which was fantastic. So then we go out and explore, and couldn't believe that we literally walked out right into the heart of Salzburg. Shops, restaurants, a biergarten, lots of people all right outside our door. Absolutely fantastic! We had dinner at the restaurant's hotel outdoors, and the breakfast in the morning was very nicely done. All in, this was a fantastic hotel choice and would happily recommend it or go back again.
This hotel is a wonderful position easy to walk to everything and the staff are helpful The rooms are very small and claustrophobic Bathroom small glass box and the door kept jamming But I Would definitely come back to Salzburg again
A very cool hotel, incredibly well located in Salzburg. They offer a very solid breakfast in morning and an excellent fine dining option in the evening. A boutique style hotel, with an interesting configuration, we had a great room over looking the outdoor dining area that worked very well for our family. Highly recommended!!!
Staying at the Blaue Gans was a good experience. It is housed in a very old building fronting on to the main pedestrian street. Its location is perfect for shopping or exploring Salzburg. Some street noise at night on the second floor in oiur street-facing room but it was rather distant and not a problem. The room was minimalist but had everything we needed. Good bathroom, good free wifi, excellent breakfast included, nice restaurant out the back. To unload your baggage, you have to pull in to a small area out the back in the street behind – not on their booking or website info and I had to ask. You then have to drive back through a tunnel in the rock, and park in the public carpark (although the hotel endorses your ticket so it costs a bit less). This was not too difficult, and the hotel gives good instructions including an aerial photo/map. Part of the price for staying right in the old town. The walk from the carpark to the hotel is about 3-4 minutes. A couple of niggles: curtains did not seal out light that well and the aircon was a unit in the room that roared somewhat (but was very effective). Overall, I would recommend the Blaue Gans as an excellent choice for staying in Salzburg.
The Blue Gans is right on the man pedestrian thoroughfare in the lod city are of Salzburg. Many of the more traditional hotels are furnished in a heavy, traditional European style. The Blue Gans is a cleaner, more spartan look. We liked this and chose it for that reason. We were favorably impressed. The staff was unfailingly pleasant and helpful. Some rates include breakfast. Ours did not and the breakfast in the hotel (good) was 20 Euro. Check your rate to see if it includes breakfast and, if not, decide whether a rate with breakfast fits your needs.
This hotel sits on the main lane which contains shops, bars, restaurants and leads right down to all the major locations. A beautiful old building with lots of original features. My favourite was the original windows and fittings. Very friendly staff and receptionists always say good morning and have a nice day (often in German). Very nice breakfast with lots of fruit and continental style. Coffee facilities not available in room and I suggest this is expected now at these rates! Bed in middle of room meant difficult to have anything at side of bed, i.e. Phone, books water. But minor thing. Overall recommended.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Nicely decorated with a cool, modern vibe. Plenty of room for our family of four. It is located in the old town on the main shopping street and is in walking distance to many sights. Food was awesome! By the time we reached Salzburg, we were ready for some familiar food. Ordered a summer salad which was delicious. Also discovered a new drink that we will be making back here at home.
Great hotel. Convenient to everything. Walk our into the pedestrian zone. All rooms are different. Our group had 5 and each one had great personality. Very clean, great customer service, great breakfast. So glad we found this hotel.
Salzburg was our first stop on a summer trip across Austria and the Blaue Gans was the perfect start. We arrived in Salzburg by train around 7pm after a long day travelling and were warmly welcomed and soon upstairs in our room. We'd booked a small room (we were on the 4th floor) as we were only staying a couple of nights but there was plenty of space for us. Great view down Getreidegasse from the windows and after freshening up we were straight out for a wander round the old town, drinks and something to eat. A fab location for a short stay and we very much enjoyed our time in Salzburg. Also loved the blue duck in the bathroom - who then accompanied us on the rest of our travels round Austria!
Awesome friendly staff, very comfortable and clean room, excellent breakfast, perfect location to explore Salzburg by foot. Stayed 5 nights and experienced consistent excellence every day. Definitely recommend for all travelers to Salzburg.
