Our villa was spectacular with beautiful views all around on the wrap around deck. We enjoyed fresh brewed coffee each morning over looking the ocean. It was hotter than h*ll but just the way we like it. The beach was beautiful and the water was very refreshing. We had our own private dipping pool as well which was a great bonus. The food was incredible. Our menu for the week consisted of mostly seafood and it was just to die for. Only bad thing was the horses were crazy. But other than that this place was A++

I've been to Costa Rica on several occasions with my family over the last 8 years and this trip was very disappointing. Recreo was NOT a luxury resort.... It wasn't even an average resort. We felt like we were tricked and were very disappointed in the whole experience. There are plenty of other places in Costa Rica to stay. Save your money and go elsewhere. Consider yourself warned.

We were hesitant to stay somewhere without food service, but we wanted an experience different than the usual all-inclusive resort. We are glad we chose Recreo! The villa was breathtakingly beautiful and the views were priceless. It was a short drive to El Jobo where there is a corner store for necessities and we bought fresh cheese at local farms. La Cruz is a longer drive but not too bad once you get past the dirt road. It has everything you need—grocery stores, pharmacy, etc. The villa is stocked with microwave, blender, fridge, stove, washer/dryer, dishes, etc. Our own splash pool was perfect after a long day of heat. Monkeys nearby and nearly private beach a short drive away were all great. David was very sweet and helpful and assisted us in arranged our excursions. We would definitely come again.

The views here are stellar, looking out over the mountains and across to the ocean & beaches. The individual houses are wonderful. It is very peaceful and the personal chef just added to the whole experience. We absolutely loved it here!

Recreo was recommended to me by a friend, and it far exceeded my expectations! Everything from the beauty and cleanliness of the villa to the amazing personal chef and meals to the beautiful and secluded beach was absolutely perfect. The golf carts they provide make it easy to get around, and the day trip we planned to Nicaragua through their office was well planned and executed. Cannot speak more highly of Recreo- we'll be back!

Although the road to Recreo wasn't the best, anyone who has been to Costa Rica will know that there are many roads there that are less than stellar. We stayed in villa 20, and besides the 99 stairs to the top of the villa (which we quickly got used to) it was absolutely amazing. We especially loved the serenity, the beach, the monkey's that came to our private pool, and our concierge David who really went the extra mile for us. We were also very impressed that the cleaning service took our dirty clothes and brought them back clean and neatly folded for us, as this was very unexpected. The massage that I received poolside was amazing too. This is definitely a place that we would visit again and again!!!

2nd time to Recreo. Still beautiful and about as secluded as you can get. The views from our house and the pool were incredible. Those up at the scenic overlook at sunset... Even more so. We stayed in the modern style 2 bedroom at the top of the hill. It was very nice, but just a word of advice to those traveling w/ kids. That house is actually 2 separate small cabinas connected to the living area by an outdoor breezeway. You have to go outside to get from one room to the other. This meant we ended up having to lock our kids in their room every night, and needed to go outside and unlock their door w/ a key to check on them. Obviously, this was not ideal... But we did not have any issues. Had we been 4 adults, it probably would have been a really great setup. Also, because so much of the living space is outdoors, it seemed like we were even more exposed to the natural flora and fauna than usual even by Costa Rican standards. We found a scorpion in the kids' room one night and the living area another. Wasn't a big deal, but that didn't happen when we stayed in another Recreo unit a year ago with a more conventional house layout. Really not complaining though, as we wanted to be out in Nature, and that's just part of life in CR. Also, the views were just that good! Still love this place and I'm sure we'll be back!

The only small downside (which is not really a downside bur stopped me from giving this a five star rating is the lack of a restaurant. Now there are some close-by but this is a truly out of the way place (although for how much longer is not clear). The villas are all excellent and each has its own private pool. Ours was had beautiful views of the ocean and bay and our morning walks were very energetic (this is quite the hilly place)!. I would urge anyone looking for a quite and lovely place to relax and get away from it all to consider this place. Terrifically helpful staff as well. Take note that there is a large resort going in family close by. Good thing or bad thing who knows just an FYI JohnW

This might sound crazy, but this year, my husband and I have been so busy that just last month we decided that we wanted to go away again for Christmas. Every other year we do a family trip during the holiday's. This year, my husband says to me," Why don't we go somewhere we have already been?" We both looked at each other and said, "Recreo!" Two years ago we spent Christmas and New Year's at recreo and it was one of the most memorable trips we have ever taken. We have an eight year old son and a 10 year old daughter and they absolutely loved it!! I am embarrassed that I have not written a review before, but I am happy to do so now. The villas are beautiful, with their different decor and ocean views. The wood work, if I remember correctly it is teak wood, is just amazing! We love the privacy of our villa, our own pool, our own housekeeper and our own cook. Believe me when I say this.. you will want to take the cook home with you!! The fruits, vegetables, seafood and meats are so fresh! I LOVE the homemade salsa and guacamole!! Basically... I can't wait to get down there for Christmas and have the privacy, see the amazing views and most of all, to just relax and live the Pura Vida life for 7 days! The staff is amazing from reservations to the onsite staff. Oh and the beach, Playa Rajada is like no other beach we have ever seen! Recreo, we can't wait to get there!! Happy Holiday's!!

The 4 of us resided in the 4 bedroom beautifully appointed Villa this time our 3rd visit to and staying at Recreo! The journey overall, as well as the Villa, were simply perfection and equally as perfect as the others we’d stayed in our previous visits to Recreo villas. The concealed beach is completely yours and always so stunning and calm, almost surreal. As always we immediately reserved and used the bikes available from Recreo and it’s a complete blast; but you want to be careful as they are addicting and we took the bikes every chance we had. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and are so nicely decked out and of course super private and separate from the other rooms in the Villa. One of our favorite parts was the service. They literally bend over backwards to attend to your every need. Happy, polite and willing to serve, who could ask for more! The bug issue wasn’t nearly what others write on these reviews and they do not even bite. They’re harmless, but we learned (Thanks Mandy) that if you want them to leave you alone, just place aside a drink or some food and they are attracted to that, instead of you! Our Chef was terrific as well as fun to be around! And the food oh my goodness gracious, I wish he were here with us right now. We also went into La Cruz, which is a fun, bouncy, but nice drive and everyone purchased food and stuff to drink and mostly so that we could make our own meals. Such a nice change from the boring ‘run of the mill’ food normally forced on you from typical hotels! The management went so far as to organize a bonfire on the beach us all – talk about a great place to visit. The appointments in the Villas are always interesting to look threw and every time I get new ideas for what I want to do to back in our house when we return. From the Villa, to the pool, to the grounds and even the staff, overall they keep the place spotless and hassle free – like a vacation should be! If you’ve never visited Recreo, your missing out in a big way and it’s worth every moment and penny! We already booked our next trip and talk about it almost daily! Recreo will change your vacation plans for a long time to come, Pure Vida!
