The Holiday Inn brand has always implied tacky roadside motel to me. Boy, have they changed that image! I took a chance on it, based on photos, location and amenities. We were delighted by what we found. The thermal heated pool is large enough for enjoyment, even when crowded. No need to go to one of the spas in town. A surprise was the free shuttle into town. The last return trip is at 9:15, so there’s plenty of time for dinner and shopping. The rooms are spacious and very quiet. The Whakarewarewa Maori village is across the street. That was the purpose of our visit to Rotorua, so the hotel location couldn’t have been more convenient. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay.
Hotel is located next to the Te Paui. Rooms are very basic and clean. Nothing set's this hotel apart from others. Staff friendly, but basic welcome. Prices seems to be in-line of what hotels charge in this area. No above and beyond services provided, so average rating.
We stayed here for 2 nights on a weekend at R222. We booked a room with a double and a single bed. The room is cleaned daily. The bedroom size is quite tight for 3 people and so is the bathroom. The double bed is not flat therefore not convenient for us to sleep. The internet wifi in the room is good. The hotel also provides buffet breakfast for a reasonable price. There is a selection of dishes available to cater different dietary requirements.
IHG Member thus stay in a number of IHG owned hotels, would describe this as about average, solid four star rating. Upgraded room to fifth floor overlooking geysers which was nice, albeit below was the refuse collection point. Perfect location for the Thermal Reserve being a couple of minutes walk away, free shuttle to the city a welcomed extra. Free car parking also a bonus. Room well equipped, strange though there was a huge gap between bed and bedside cabinet, felt like bed too small for the room layout. Clothes storage limited but ok. Bedroom and public areas nice modern look, foyer, bar area spacious and smart. Breakfast offering excellent. Bar snack in the evening huge in quantity. Staff generally friendly and helpful. Overall a positive experience.
We stayed for 2 nights and overall were happy with the hotel. The meals were very good with a wide selection. The evening buffet is well worth the price. A great location for the geothermal centre which is just up the road and is an absolute must to visit. A fascinating town and the hotel is a really good place to stay
Nice hotel. Clean rooms and heated pools and spa. Friendly staff. Free shuttle to town and back from hotel. Breakfast was very good too. Had dinner at Chapman’s restaurant it was great. Highly recommend. Will go there again with family.
We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Rotorua at least a half dozen times over the past 3-4 years (most recently in July 2017). Each visit has been very good in the critical elements. The beds are excellent -- firm but soft enough on top for contour. Great pillows and bedding. Rooms are sufficiently spacious. Bath/shower and other bathroom facilities work well. Internet has been excellent down (I measured almost 24mbps), but uploads are slower (2.5mbps) using wifi when the hotel was almost full. Keep in mind that the hotel is next to natural thermal activity, so a sulphur smell is sometimes (or often) in the air. The pool is thermally heated at a comfy warm temperature -- a real treat, particularly in winter. Only problem is that the pool was absolutely packed much of the time during our latest 3-night stay, due to school holidays. But plenty of pool space on other visits. There are also two hot tubs/jacuzzis near the pool. Nice to use, but both could use updating. We haven't had as much success as other reviewers with the meals. The breakfast lacked fruit salad and quality croissants, danishes, or similar items (that we could find). The buffet provides scrambled eggs, but you can order other types. We ordered fried and poached eggs, both of which were quite undercooked. (We had our other two breakfasts at nearby Coffee Club, which were excellent.) We had dinner (not buffet) on our previous trip 8 months earlier and it was also below average (e.g., rather dry, overcooked), but servers were friendly and fairly efficient. The front desk staff have been consistently professional and welcoming. The hotel is located in a quiet area (away from downtown and busy roads), but with quick car access to daily outings in and around Rotorua. The parking lot tends to get full, but free parking is available on the quiet street if necessary.
An excellent Holiday Inn- far superior to those in UK, USA and Canada. It is clean and the rooms are spacious. Comfy bed and a quiet room... all the things I want. The hotel staff were hugely helpful and provide fresh milk for tea etc and they provide a shuttle bus to town so you can go out to shop, eat or whatever. The geothermal geysers can be seen form the hotel but it’s only a 10 minute walk up the road and their guided tours are brilliant. The pool is warm but clean and they provide suntan lotion if you forget. Thanks very much
Room size is fine, location is really close to Te Puia / Maori Cultural Centre, which is a bonus. The room service is absolutely awful, a waste of money, I’d rather have gone without any food. The pizza was a travesty of oil, cheese and raw tomatoes, not tomato sauce. Staff were nice and friendly.
Was good last time I was here a year ago and now improved more in my opinion. Breakfasts plentiful, the room was comfortable and the bathroom had a better shower than last time. Parking was much better this time, perhaps because we are in the pot school holiday period. Room service excellent food and highly recommend you try or go to the restaurant ... dinner 3 nights running was great!
